Seemed ok on switched on, found all the channels

Within five minutes the picture froze, reset button didnt work so 'switched computer off and then on again'

After a while its green 'on' light came back, and picture and then the thing froze again and after that it just refused to come back to life

Returned to base.

4.0 out of 5 stars Film makes feeling, 17 Jan 2012
Few photographers are allowed to work so closely with a band these days, most are chased out the venue after 3 songs. That's why there are so few good band pics now, that and digital. Smith had to work with limited amount of film, so she didn't blaze away, instead she thought before pressing the button and didnt come back with 500 shots to sift through

And you cant beat b/w film for atmosphere. These same shots on digital would be cold and lifeless even if forced into b/w. We wont see this kind of work ever again.

4.0 out of 5 stars As good as expected, 15 Oct 2011
We waited a long time and it was worth it, even though it might have been better as a single album as not all the tracks would have made that more critical cut. But you can't complain about 18 tracks for the price of a packet of fags and you can make your own cut down version for iPod. Yes Bevis Frond can still do the business and while some of us (me) miss the big guitar solos there's still a lot to love from the UKs most curmudgeonly guitar hero.

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as ever, 17 July 2011
Binet should get the French knighthood. Hilariously funny as usual, beautifully drawn and Robert and Raymonde are as wonderfully human as ever. If only all 'comic books' had this depth of character and wit.

I doesnt work, cheap cables never do but I thought perhaps I might get lucky this time.

Pay more, get a decent brand. The Alba for £6.99 from Argos works fine

3.0 out of 5 stars self destructive, 30 Oct 2010
This review is from: Hit Squad (Audio CD)
Someone asked why music of this quality never made the maker famous. Well simply it was down to bloody-mindedness. It's all very well to 'not compromise' which is good, but sometimes other people's opinions are actually right. It does happen. The successful artist knows when to accept that, the unsuccessful digs his heels in. Nick Saloman is a gifted musician but his ability to be objective is missing. Hence a lot of not so good tracks mixed in with real crackers. No doubt people pointed out the weak ones, but that only made him wilfully want them included. I think this was the last Frond album

3.0 out of 5 stars My my, the lyrics let it down, 17 Oct 2010
This review is from: Le Noise (Audio CD)
Musically very interesting, lyrically Young plumbs some depths. He has always veered between the sublime and the fatuous lyrically, seeming to have no critical judgement either way. Here he frequently pulls out a rhyming dictionary so that hash is rhymed with cash for example. And no he's not trying to be funny, he just doesn't know any better.

Lanois is inclined to the trite and obvious as well, possibly through working with U2 so much, so that when Young says 'paranoia', Lanois puts a load of 'spooky' echo/reverb onto it. An idea someone should have questioned but I suppose Young and Lanois didn't ask anyone's opinion.

It's an album that repays frequent listening and one can be grateful Young made it. It also sheds some light on all the mad Aztec stuff he was pumping out a while back. According to Young, he took so much cocaine back then he thought he WAS an Aztec!

Good old Neil, crazy but always original.

Oh Lord, if you can read French then invest in the Bidochons. Before the Simpsons, before Family Guy there was the Bidochons. Incredibly,pant-wettingly funny, superbly drawn, sensitive, insightful and sometimes a little sad the Bidochons is a cultural icon. Do try and start with Vol 1 and enjoy the way the humour gets sharper, the characters more rounded and the drawing better and better.

I envy anyone discovering Bidochons for the first time - 20 volumes of 20 years work to laugh with!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Still a bit foghorn, 14 Jun 2010
This review is from: Love And Its Opposite (Audio CD)
Been a fan since the marine girls, I imagine Thorn and I are the same age. Always been a bit wary of her voice which she can too often 'blast' with. Makes the drinks cabinet rattle.

Lyrically still good despite the fact The Guardian likes her, nearly always a sign of second rate talent, for once they are right even if they like her for all the wrong reasons - box ticking as usual.

Sounds like Ben Watt has been kept off the mixing desk, which is good, he was always the least talented of the pair but seemed to dominate her musically with his 'arrangements' which killed her poetry. As for his singing, well least said the better.
