4.0 out of 5 stars Very reliable, 10 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this 4tb NAS drive for streaming music (wav files through a good hi-fi system)
Easy to convert from raid 0 to raid 1 - but does take nearly a complete day to do the raid conversion.
It streams music perfectly, no drop-outs or anything.
I'm never aware of any noise from it when streaming, but you can of course hear the disc heads when writing files to it.

The reason I got this one is because we have about 8 of these in various locations at work and none have failed so far. Mine at home has been switched on permanently now for about 6 months and has never faltered. It survived two mains power cuts without having to touch it. If I need another NAS drive I'd probably get the same again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality and Shocking!!!, 4 Oct 2013
This review is from: Saltash Bells (Audio CD)
Words cant really describe these fantastic tunes - Think of this as a follow up to "The Road To St Ives", an equal album with lots of originality.

But...
And here's the biggest shock...
You may need to sit down for this...
etc...
Amidst the usual instruments, John actually plays a TENOR SAXOPHONE!!! Yes indeed, what a pleasant surprise :)
- I've got loads of his recordings but never heard him playing tenor before, is this the first time???

Samsung ML-1915 Mono Laser Printer with Print Screen Technology
Samsung ML-1915 Mono Laser Printer with Print Screen Technology

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Laser Printer - Cheap, Robust, Simple, Reliable, 14 Jun 2011
This printer fits a purpose:
- A printer that is used constantly 24/7 but only printing one or two pages at a time.
- It is sited in an industrial location and needs to be reasonably robust.
- It needs to be quick and simple to install.

We used to use HP Laserjets but this Samsung is about a third of the price of an HP to do the same job and has proven to be more reliable than our existing HP printers. It seems to be able to take a bit more man-handling than the HP printers too!
We now have about 20 of these and they are proving to be an excellent corporate solution.

The only downside is that we haven't yet been able to find compatible (i.e. cheap!) toners but hopefully someone will soon be making these.

Does it get jammed? - No, after about 6 months we've not had any jams.

I'd recommend this printer.

5.0 out of 5 stars It works :), 4 Jun 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I needed a cable to connect my midi keyboard to my pc.
This cable works just fine.
PC is windows 7.
Inital latency probs between the keyboard and the PC software were solved by installing ASIO4ALL driver as mentioned elsewhere. - This is an essential and easy thing to do and shows that the cable is fine and not a cause of latency.
So...
A cheap and recommended cable bargain!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good bedroom unit, 27 May 2011
I bought this to use in the bedroom so it was important that it worked well at very quiet volumes and didn't step up from too quiet to just a bit too loud (unlike my old system) because for me there is a very quiet volume that is just right for drifting off to sleep with. Anyway, at "Daytime" volumes, the sound quality is reasonably ok although it isn't going to fill a room like a decent hi-fi so it has it's limitations.

It's a good compact size, so it fits just right on a bedside cabinet.

The main display (2 brightness settings) is dim enough not to be a distraction at night.

The CD player is fine but doesn't cope with mp4. Normal CD and mp3 are ok though.

The Ipod connetion is great and the remote controls the ipod really well. It doesnt have a video out, but you can watch a vid on your ipod and hear the sound through this unit's speakers. It also charges your ipod.

Both FM and DAB radios are ok but are a bit sensitive and it does need the external wire aerial plugging in.
As this unit is in the bedroom, I've taped the aerial to the back of a headboard and all is fine. I probably use the DAB radio more than the FM. As with any unit of this size, there really isn't much difference between DAB and FM sound quality so use whichever gets the best signal.

It allows 3 separate alarms (or on/off times) to be set up and then you can easily switch one of the three on. This is a good feature. When it wakes up, the volume gradually comes up to whatever it was set to, so you aren't woken with a loud shock. Also, if it was set to play a CD, it will start the CD playing.

Another great feature is that it has a USB socket on the top. I've plugged in an ancient memory stick which contained various files and some mp3 files and it played the mp3 files with no probs so you don't even need a proper ipod to play your mp3s on this unit.

The remote is well designed with lots of different sized buttons and doesnt take long to feel where the different controls are. It controls everything apart from the cd door opening but there is a button in the top of the unit for this so it isn't a problem.

It's a good 4 star item - I'd give it 5 stars if it had a video out and a telescopic aerial.
For the money, it fits a purpose and I'm happy with it :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal long cable for a sky+ box, 24 Jan 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I sent off for this cable for someone who was about to have Sky fitted and realised that they would need a 3 meter Scart cable. It was ordered two days before the sky fitting date and arrived two days later, in fact the postman delivered it just as the sky engineer was arriving! - Perfect timing!
Anyway, it is a reasonably good quality cable and gives a great picture so I can recommend one of these if you need a longer cable than the short, cheap one that is supplied as standard with the sky+ box.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced junk!!!, 23 Nov 2009
Le Creuset have got themselves a good name and some of their products are fine but this pan is rubbish!
I bought one of these thinking that it would match up the other Le Creuset items I've got but it was a mistake:-
It's not a practical pan in that it's much too heavy for proper fast pan cooking and yet it doesn't come with a lid for slow pan cooking.
However, the main problem is that the non-stick coating has started to peel off after only about a year and underneath the coating it has rusted. The coating is very feeble, it's not as if I've been using metal implements on it. I have another pan that I got from Aldi a while ago for under 20 and is much more robust than this.
Honestly, dont waste your money on this pan - it's not worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE SOUNDS!!!, 27 May 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Resident Evil 4 (Wii) (Video Game)
Yes, the best game on the wii so far but make sure you have your wii wired up to your big hi-fi amp and speakers - The music and background sounds on Resident Evil 4 are staggeringly fantastic! easily comparable and better than many big-budget films! If, like me, you're not the main gamer in your household, the sounds will get you sucked into the atmosphere and tension and you'll spend an enjoyable amount of time as a back-seat gamer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why this is the best Swiss Army knife, 12 May 2009
This is the one to get!
Some knives are just too small but any more "blades" than on this one and it would be too cumbersome or you may as well get one of those Leatherman jobbies which simply aren't practical to carry everywhere. This one is still pocket sized and mine has had loads of use - the big knife blade is ideal for food purposes (cutting fruit and the like at work), the small knife blade is the best for general cutting- the smaller blade giving a bit more control and power (think of a Stanley knife - big handle/small blade)
Another good reason for getting this knife is that it has both flat and Philips screwdrivers - in fact it was the Philips screwdriver that sold it to me! it's had so many uses over the years. Also, you'd be suprised at how often the magnifying glass has come in handy for removing splinters.
The other blades will have their uses, even if you dont indulge in a lot of reaming or punch eye hooking!

Okay, mine is 12 years old now and I didnt buy it from Amazon but I feel it's an item worthy of a very high recommendation. If I ever lose it, I'd get another one.

Philip's Stargazer: The Complete Astromony Map and Guide Pack: Northern Hemisphere
Philip's Stargazer: The Complete Astromony Map and Guide Pack: Northern Hemisphere
by Patrick Moore
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Astronomy - START HERE, 11 Feb 2009
The Planisphere is very useful and essential really if you want a quick guide to what is in the sky at any time of the year. It's practical enough to be of real value!
The book is small but it is THE book that got me interested in astronomy. Prior to this I had got a much more in-depth astronomy book, but to be honest it just sat on the shelf. This little guide doesn't give much detail but every word in it counts. It takes you through a tour of the sky - all you need to do is locate the Plough and it then shows how to get to recognise the other major constellations with some notes explaining what to expect and what you can see. You can almost hear Patrick Moore speaking as you read the notes.
Once you have gone through the book you might want a larger volume for more detail, but unless you have an experienced astronomer friend, I dont think there could be an easier way to start getting to know the night sky.
