5.0 out of 5 stars Great entertainment for smaller babies, 11 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a great little electronic toy that my son loves. It is very lightweight with a small handle which is easy to grasp. My six month old can lift the toy easily and as it is not as complex as some Leapfrog toys he is able to operate it easily. The toy itself folds in half which makes it small for easy storage and comes with batteries already installed so you don't need to worry about that side of things.

There are several buttons which your little one can press for sound and light as well as a small barrel filled with balls to roll. The buttons light up as does the mouth of the 'pup' to make it look like it is doing the talking. The whole thing is brightly coloured and eye catching and has nice rounded edges in case there are any bangs when it is being waved about.

I'm not sure that this will be as popular with my son when he is a few more months old, but currently it is a favourite and keeps him occupied for small chunks of time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Colourful Fun!, 9 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a lovely large colourful toy that our son loves. As yet he is not at the ideal age to be using it to its full extent but he really enjoys helping mummy and daddy pop the coloured balls in and seeing where they pop out. It holds his attention for a long time and is a great game to play as a family.

As it is quite a big toy we don't have this out every day which will hopefully mean it lasts a little longer than some toys as he will not get bored of it quickly. It's also a good height for our little man as he can hold onto parts of it to help him stand (though be warned mummy and daddy should be on hand as he can pull it over).

Overall a really enjoyable toy but as others have mentioned it does need a flat sturdy surface to stand on or it can get a little confused.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really useful simple set, 9 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a great little starter kit for when you are weaning your little one. Our baby has just started the transition from breast to proper food and it has been invaluable. First off it has been well designed with pleasing colours and textures for baby to look at and play with and it also seems to be very durable and solid. I am trying to keep the amount of baby bits we have about the house to a minimum and this kit is proving to be really useful as I have been able to get rid of most of the other bits and bobs we had acquired. The two small food pots are used daily for his meals as they are small enough for me to keep hold of while feeding him. They are also used when we travel anywhere as the lids fit well and (so far) we have not had any leaks. The soft spoon is great as he loves to chew on it as well as eat from it, though it can be a little tough for us to scrape food out of pots as the end bends all over the place. As he gets bigger we will be using the larger dish and more solid spoon and I suspect at that point we may need to buy one or two more bits but until then this kit has provided everything we need food wise. The first sip cup is proving useful as he is able to hold onto the handles easily and he loves to rub his gums on the spout when they are painful. As yet the little man has not quite got the hang of drinking from the cup but we are getting closer and I think it will be the cup we use most days when he does start being able to use it properly.

Overall this really is a fab little set but I do feel that it is perhaps a little steep price wise hence the 4 starts rather than 5.

Grimm Tales: For Young and Old (Penguin Hardback Classics)
Grimm Tales: For Young and Old (Penguin Hardback Classics)
by Philip Pullman
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 15.69

3.0 out of 5 stars Fairy tales for grown ups, 15 Nov 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a lovely looking book. It has a beautiful cover and has certianly been produced to a high quality. The stories it contains are numerous and varied - some of which will be familiar to readers and some will be completley new as Phillip Pullman has revamped many lesser known tales as well.

The tales themselves remain the traditional stories they always were warts and all so anyone expecting the sugar coated versions that we see in Disney films will be disappointed. Instead it is the language used which has been updted and this can clash slghtly at times but overall works really well. The addition of Pullman's notes is also great as it makes the book a little different from any other versions out there. The book is also made different by the lack of illustrations. For a book that has been produced by such a talented writer and to such a high quality this is a huge let down. The original tales were accompanied by fabulous, magical illustrations that captured the feel of the stories and ignited the imagination however this book has nothing like that and is severely lacking because of it. This is such a shame and a real waste of an oportunity. As such I can only think it is a book for adults which is such a shame as children would really enjoy these tales. A wonderful idea executed in a half hearted manner.

Fisher-Price Froggy Potty

4.0 out of 5 stars Well designed and fun!, 15 Nov 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a very brightly coloured friendly looking potty, it is light and easy to move about, but it is made from strong plastic and the wide base means it is nice and sturdy - so no tipping over. The insert is a great idea meaning you can empty it easily without having to lift the entire thing.

The potty itself if much larger than most models on the market. This means that at the start of potty training you may need to help lifting your child onto the potty as they may not be able to get onto it easily especially if they are on the smaller size for their age. As others have noted the design also means that it is great for little boys as there is a reasonable sized lip at the front to catch any surprise sprays. We have found our boy really likes having his own 'toilet' and has become quite posessive of it. A good design and reasonably priced product.

The Stick Man Activity Book
The Stick Man Activity Book
by Julia Donaldson
Edition: Paperback
Price: 5.59

4.0 out of 5 stars Family fun!, 15 Nov 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a lovely actvity book from Julia Donaldson with illustrations by Axel Scheffler. It is an A4 sized book with glossy pages and has been well produced to a high quality. There is plenty in there to keep the kids busy from recipes, to sticers to cut out projects and dot the dots etc. Hopefully even the fussiest child would find something to do from here as there is so much available. That said our niece did find a couple of the bits a little tough for her (she is 4)so perhaps parents will need to help chosing the right activities just in case.

As you do very much cut up and pull apart bits of this book it really is not a purchase that will last very long, that said for the price you will get a good few weeks of activites out of it and the stickers themselves are a lot of fun to play with separately. Overall a good quality activity book though some bits may be too tough for smaller kids.

The Highway Rat
The Highway Rat

5.0 out of 5 stars Stand and Deliver!, 25 Oct 2012
This review is from: The Highway Rat (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Highway Rat is a simple tale which is fun and silly but with a message to it as well. It has likable characters and a happy ending. The book is well presented and is a nice size to hold and read with children. As always with Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler books the illustrations are great. They are colourful and simple with a distinctive 'rough around the egdes' look to them. They are a great accompaniment to the story.

The book itself is lovely to read with a great rhythm to it. This is really useful for reading to and with small children as they can grasp the ups and downs of the text nice and easily. My other half especially enjoys doing silly voices and over the top readings of the book.

Overall great fun and enormously entertaining.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fairy fun, 25 Oct 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a lovely little book containing a short story about two fairies and press out models of them both with press out clothes and accessories to dress them up. The Amazon description mentions stickers but as other have noted sadly there are not any included in the book so this must be a mis-description on Amazon's part.

The book is well presented with bright and colourful illustrations throughout. The story asks children to find various objects as pictures in the story and once again you can see them as press out items later on in the book. It is very traditional with the press out dolls to dress up and can be a little fiddly for smaller children to do easily. That said it is fun and entertaining enough for a short time and you can keep everything together in a handy little folder at the back.

This will not distract kids for too long but it is one that can be bought out now and again for half an hour or so as there are quite a few outfits to try out. At the current Amazon price of 2.25 it is well worth the investment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Deja vu...., 24 Oct 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
In our household we own the Tefal Jamie Oliver food processor and it generally has done a great job over the years we have owned it but I was looking forward to testing out this new product....however upon receiving it I was a little shocked to realise that it is basically the same product but without the Jamie Oliver price tag.

The food processor looks the same and has the same useful storage drawer to keep the blades in. It does have slightly more power at 800 watts rather then 750 watts of the Oliver version but this is not really noticable in performance. It has the same speed settings along with the pulse option - albeit in a slightly different font and the mixing bowl and jug both have the same capacity and design.

Upon trying out the food processor we have found that (as with the Jamie version) it is simple to set up and use though the cleaning can sometimes be a bit of a pain. The rubber feet on the bottom of the processor keep it steady and stable on the worktop. It is well constructed and feels solid but it is not too heavy or cumbersome. The 2L bowl is big enough for most uses and the 1.5L jug certianly gives enough space for most creations.

Overall I would say that this product is great at what it does, it is stylish and robust whilst remaining compact and at a price tag that is 15 cheaper than the Jamie version and a bit more power you really can't go wrong. A useful and efficient piece of kit.

Note: as there are not many reviews of this product as yet you might want to nip over to the "Jamie Oliver DO250D34 750 Watts Food Processor, 2 Litre, With Blender" page as this will give you more information about the product, just bear the slight power difference in mind.

Belle & Boo and the Birthday Surprise
Belle & Boo and the Birthday Surprise

Edition: Paperback
Price: 4.79

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely charming and delightful, 24 Oct 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is an absolutely wonderful enchanting little book. It tells a simple story where Belle is organising a birthday party for her best freind Boo accompanied with beautiful illustrations.

The story is gentle and sweet, not too long or too short and has enough in it to hold your attention but it really is the illustrations that put this book in a class above the rest. The images instantly take you a step back in time to childhood and the simple pleasure to be found in exploring the world around you and using your imagination. Our whole family has fallen in love with Belle and Boo and we will be looking forward to future books. They are surely destined to become classics.
