2.0 out of 5 stars Rather boring, 29 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not a particularly inspiring story. Weak in parts and the
ending rather insipid.
Continued reading the book only to complete it, as I hate leaving books
half-way through.
Not one of his best in any manner - too long in parts with details
spread over pages in order to lengthen story, or at least that is
the feeling I got. A rather poor read

Another winner from the french tv series - love the chararcters,
in particular Laure and Josephine who both play their part to
perfection - story a little drawn out compared to the first three
episodes but still compulsive viewing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece, 16 Feb. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having lived many years in Switzerland with access to to French films, I have had the pleasure on
Many occasions to see some of Chabrols films. His obsession with the
Middle class in France and their bourgeouisie isalways an underlying factor, as is his enjoyment in
Playing with relationships. In this selection, many of the films are turned in the late sixties
and early seventies and the atmosphere of betrayal, suspicion and adultery is
is brought out wonderfully by Chabrol.
Stephane Audran ( who was married to Chabrol) is not only beautiful, but excellent. It is a bonus
For the viewer that she stars in a number of the films In this box set.

A must for anyone who enjoys les series noires!!

Lift To The Scaffold [1958] [DVD]
Lift To The Scaffold [1958] [DVD]
Dvd ~ Jeanne Moreau

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent film noir, 19 Dec. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A truly great film by Louis Malle starring the lovely
Jeanne Moreau and the late Maurice Ronet.

A slicky classic thriller - not a Hitchcok, but wonderfully
Played out by Jeanne Moreau as the beautiful wealthy
Blonde who with her lover, conspire to murder her husband.

Things do not work out as planned and the viewer is not
Disappointed by the outcome.

A must for those who enjoy a murder with a twist.

3.0 out of 5 stars A creepy and pretty frightening movie, 19 Dec. 2010

I watched.this film one Sunday afternoon alone and it
Certainly makes the hair on your skin crawl.
The bathroom scene is horrific and although you
Know it cannot be true, there is always a thought
At the back of your head, could this really happen.

The actors are convincing and although hard as it is
To admit, so is the story. I came away from the film
Thinking that evil really does exist, no matter where
And often when we at least expect it. This is not a film for the
fainthearted. The kitchen scene near the beginning was perhaps a little
overdone, but what we learn as the story unravels, maybe was necessary.

For anyone who likes a gory story, then it is for you, just
Ensure no children are watching!!!
