It's a good quality print, Hole fans should be adequately pleased with this purchase, considering it is relatively cheap also.

Hulk: Gray TPB (Hulk (Paperback Marvel))
Hulk: Gray TPB (Hulk (Paperback Marvel))
by Tim Sale
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Hulk sad., 26 Mar 2013

Loeb and Sale continue their acclaimed "Yellow, Blue..." with Hulk Gray. Daredevil and Spiderman's love lives have had the spotlight, now it's the jolly green giant's turn. This is as much an origin tale as one about Hulk's tragic love for Betty Ross and a pretty entertaining one, the thing stopping it from being great is the heavy narration done through a conversation with Bruce and Dr Samson. Similarly to Yellow and Gray, it gets in the way of the story and sometimes makes little sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Call Aquaman lame after this. I dare you., 26 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Aquaman has been the laughing stock of the DC universe, often trivialized as the guy who speaks to dolphins. Geoff Johns kicks the asses of Aquaman's detractors and is sure to pull in new fans. The writing is superb, typical Johns and the artwork is impressive.

2.0 out of 5 stars yeah... it's sort of meh, 26 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I wasn't expecting Detective Comics to rise to the greatness of Batman or Batman and Robin, what with Batman's Night of the Owls storyline in full throttle and Peter Tomasi's great writing in Batman and Robin. However, I am still severely disappointed by a truly mediocre start to the New 52 with Detective Comics. The main story, revolves around a lame, pretty flat villain named the Dollmaker. It isn't a terrible read and has it's moments, but the back up story is atrocious. The art is down-right ugly and the writing is such a mess. It's a shame, because the premise was kind of cool: a plot to rob the Iceberg Casino on it's opening night full of double crosses, however it's let down so bad by Tony Daniel's dialogue that almost made me put the book down and never pick it up again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, Justice League is awesome!, 26 Mar 2013

Following on from the amazing first volume, The Villain's Journey may actually be a superior follow up. Origins was there to set up the characters for the New 52, but now they are all established Johns has the liberty to flesh out the story a bit more. The action is still there and it's drawn fantastically by the brilliant Jim Lee, but the story extends beyond just saving the world. There are real character elements that remind us that Superheroes are humans too, with all our character flaws and weaknesses. Humor, sadness and real characterization make for excellent reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Marvel Team-ups redux, 26 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Avenging Spider-Man is essentially a spiritual reboot of the Marvel Team Ups comics, the difference being this time it revolves entirely around Spider-Man's team ups with other Marvel stars. The first story in which Spider-Man and Red Hulk to save The Mole Man and New York is terrific. The art is some of the best stylised art I have ever seen and is a perfect fit for Spider-Man. The writing is equally awesome, balancing action and comedy expertly, making for a superbly entertaining read. Unfortunately, the other stories don't quite match, especially the Captain America one which was pretty poor, the humor didn't work at all and the art was boring.

3.0 out of 5 stars WARNING: CONSIDER YOUR PURCHASE CAREFULLY IF YOU OWN THE NIGHT OF OWLS COLLECTION, 26 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This comic collects Batman 8-12 and Batman Annual 1, all of which except 10,11 and 12 appeared in the Night of Owls crossover collection. I didn't know this beforehand so I basically paid full price just to read three issues. Of course for collectors it's probably worth buying too.

So That was just a caution, now onto reviewing the book. The finale to the epic Night Of Owls story is surprisingly a bit flat. The artwork courtesy of Greg Capullo still delivers, however I was let down by this conclusion to a brilliant story arc. The reveal of the big bad is quite interesting and adds some more troubling depth to the Wayne family (as if they needed more) and will shock you. But the villain is far too talky and throughout the climactic battle, he talks way too much and it dulls the action. Afterwards, the ending feels like a bit of a cop out, a Bit too typical and like Snyder was trying too hard to tie everything up, but it was by no means a bad story and I am very excited for what's to come of Batman under his and Capullo's direction.

The Harper Row story was quite a nice read, elaborating further on the character who was introduced early on the story arc. She is set to play a big role in the future, but what the role is exactly is uncertain. She is written well with character depth, something Snyder excels at and one of the reasons his work is a joy to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Look out, snyder is one writer you don't wanna miss, 25 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Scott Snyder had a lot to live up to, succeeding grant Morrison as writer of batman. What a fantastic run Morrison had, and Snyder may be his equal. This is exhilarating no holds barred action with enough detective elements to satisfy. Reminds us why batman is such a badass in the first place, but also that he is just a man, and has a breaking point. The art is terrific.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really nice start, 25 Feb 2013
This is a short intro for the new 52 and what a brilliant way to begin. It appeals to new fans and old, being a simple action adventure story with enough introduction to the characters for new readers, but not so much as to annoy the old. The story is pretty typical, darkseid invades earth so the justice league assemble for the first time to defeat him. It's pretty much non stop action, but with sharp dialogue involving quite funny arguments between the heroes, who are at odds to begin with. The art is very good. Seems to be a warm up for things to come, but it has my attention.
