4.0 out of 5 stars great fit, great winter boots, 20 Nov 2013

this is my second pair of these boots. Wore them till they fell apart but quite honestly they withstand wind, rain and snow and are comfortable for walking about in. Not the trendiest of boots but for winter under trousers great.

5.0 out of 5 stars joy of discovering writer new to you..., 9 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
oh what a joy! to discover a writer and a book as good as this, reminds you why you enjoy reading so much. Everything the great reviews say about this book are true. I found the book completely engrossing and felt I was there with the characters in 'small town' America which Haruf manages to make seem both big and small at the same time. Loved it but scared to read any more of his in case they don't live up to the extremely high expectations I now have of this writer!

4.0 out of 5 stars terrifying and draining, 24 Mar 2013

I think I enjoyed this book! Read the first half avidly and got caught up in the tenseness and the character's inability to communicate. The second half of the book I found myself speed reading as I was desperate to get out of the book and away from the city which was causing him so much difficulty. It is not a comfortable read and all the better for it but if I'm honest I just wanted it to end! Maybe that is what the author intended!

what a superb book (ebook) absolutely loved it. writing top notch and a great story made all the more shocking by the sad and abrupt ending. he made a great job of switching between different countries and different time periods - something which quite often doesn't work. a writer of great ability - wanted to read more from him.

this was ok as a brief memoir and there were bits that really shone but I got a bit bored.
