5.0 out of 5 stars THIS LADY IS PURE MAGICAL TALENT !, 22 Feb. 2013
I first saw Emili Sande on tv last years at the BBC gig in Hackney, she was awesome that day, herr albums are great but liver with her full band you quicly realize what an incredible talent we have. Along with Adele and Paloma Faith the UK has the best three female singers in the whole of popular music. This CD/DVD set is chock full of great performances, the band and backing singers on top of their talent, then the lady herself, the smile, the joy she gives out throughout the performance. Every song is top quality, guest appearances by Laberynth (what a great song 'Beneath Your Beautiful'is), the Prof. Green adding his rap to 'Read All About It'. The amazing 19 song set ends with of course, 'Next To You'. The CD contains 16 tracks from the performance, a nice book style packaging full of some great black and white images from all involved, plus an on-the-road film as a bonus on the DVD, make this a really wonderful release. Fans will love it, but with Emili having such a warm and friendly personality new visitors to her music will be hooked at one fabulously good artist.
FFopr good measure we are also treated to two brand new songs. The quality of this set both soundwise and in it's filming is simply superb, and surely thgisis might well be the biggest selling live music recording for 2013, it certainly deserves it, WONDERFUL.

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT MODERN BLUES...GREAT ALBUM BEST OF THE YEAR !, 1 Feb. 2013
This review is from: TAKE MY HAND (Audio CD)
Alan Nimmo, one half of the Nimmo Brothers formed this new band and what a great album they have produced here. Including bassist of the year award winner Lindsay Coulson. I'd not heard too much of the band until I saw them in December 2012 at a blues weekend and well they were simply sensational.Often that live feel doesn't get the same feel in the studio, well this has ! A mix of rockin' blues some great slower self written songs as well. Alan has a really great voice, strong throughout, and includes here the best version of 'Old Love' I have ever heard, and I'm a massive Clapton fan. This track really packs a kick towars the end where Alan's guitar playing is simply amazing. Throughout this set is of the top drawer, the band are tightly gelled together, The playing order couldn't be bettered.Another standout is the Buddy Guy performed song 'Feels Like Rain',again a stunningly fresh arrangement gives such a depth to a great slice of ballad blues. A massive live favourite 'Mr Highway Man' will get your toes tapping big time, as will the opening track 'Lose Control', these two are I believe Alan's own songs. Eleven songs make up this release, every track is a standout incvluding the wonderful title song. If this band arn't top of the blues band league very quickly then I'll be utterly amazed. With guitars and kilts, this is a band and a an album not to be missed at any price. GET IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars TRULY FABULOUS BOOK ON BOWIE, UNMISSABLE !, 28 Jan. 2013
One thing you can always say of David Bowie is pure class. A rock legend,a man who's changed by each album the face and direction of popular music. So how about a book on them, great idea, but open this large tome and you'll be drawn into the amazing world of the man and his albums. This simply is one book no fan will want to miss, full to the brim on the facts behing every album, studio photos, who produced, engineered and who played on them from his first self titled album through to Reality, and a bit of where he is now,When written only a few months ago clearly no one had a clue a new album was in the pipeline. Every album here is covered in depth, solo and Tin Machine ones, track listings etc. Photos in the studio and from the many tours,a guide to all things Bowie appearances, recording dates but most of all this is a book about him,and his music. Superbly written, easy to read and very engrosing and gives so much insight into the reasons behind every aone along with Bowie's own ongoing comments. The photos throughout are simply brilliant, the costumes, the fashions, the ideas behing how the music was changing, so much in a book of clearly lasting pleasure to any fan. A book you can either just sit and flip through,or read from any place your interest is,as you play the album of choice, or to be read through beginning to end. There are not many artist boooks of this quality, but the man is that and this book on his career studiowise and on the tour circuit is an absolute must, for certainly any Bowie fan, as well as many others.
As I wrote this it reminds me how we all thought or hoped he come on at the London Olympics closing ceremony as they played 'Fashion' sadly he didn't although asked. But it shows just how loved he is, one of the absolute pop greats, and this a book to enjoy again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars KEITH THOMPSON UNDERATED BUT GREAT BLUES BASED TALENT !, 28 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Snapshot of Reality (Audio CD)
My wife and I were at the Gloucester Blues Festival last Summer chatting to another couple and just by us was Keith Thompson and his wife, unfortunately not playing that day. Keith is from the Gloucester area, an incredibly popular live performer and spends a large part of his time on the european circuit, with his very fine band.Hence, here we get a live CD, taken from a few shows but superbly mixed to sound like one show, very high quality recording also adds to the listening pleasure. Among fans he is a very highly regarded guitarist who also has a great voice doing full justice to his ability to write some very good songs as well.
This live set has twelve tracks, mostly self written but a few choice covers like 'Stormy Monday' and Al Green's 'Take Me To The River'. this is a consistently good set producing a very enjoyable album, one the band should be very justly proud of. We not only get the guitar, bass and drume but a young lady playing some really funky saxophone that adds another dimension to the overall sound. Albums this good deserve to be heard so much more. 'Snapshot Of Reality' is live,it's first class, and gives us a band that can be enjoyed again and again. Very Highly Recommended !

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT QUITE WHAT I EXPECTED,BUT IT'S OK !, 28 Jan. 2013
This review is from: Live At Legends (Audio CD)
Buddy Guy is an amazing blues performer, has his own club Legends in Chicago, so when I heard of this album coming it was certainly one I eagerly looked forward to. The released result is a little disappointing, firstly there are only seven live tracks two of those very average medlies that feature BoomBoom,Sunshine Of Your Love,Voodoo Chile and Strange Brew, which are not worth a place of a live album, the second annoyingly fades out anyway. There are three new studio tracks that are pretty good if standard BG. So from an introduction, why they list these as tracks I've no idea, that includes for parental advice an expletive as well, we get a bunch of covers and an album track. As this set was recorded in 2010 we get nothing from the excellent Living Proof album, but get Skin Deep from the previous album which is a stand out track. Covers include 'Mannish Boy','I Just Wanna Make Love To You'.Yet another version of 'Damn Right I Got The Blues', and an interesting opener in 'Best Damn Fool'. The band are good,Buddy is an awesome guitarist, the voice as great as ever. This album could have just been that much better, with a better choice of material. He's not been that well served live album wise, and as he's such a stunning live artist it's a shame. His live set at Glastonbury a couple of years back would have made such a great release. His best available set is on the Blues At Montreaux DVD set. This release although OK could have been so much better with a better though out choice of material, medley's of the two here type just don't work on a CD, and so a really great Buddy Guy live set is still to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars ERIC BURDON LIVE AND ON THE BEACH!, 19 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I haven't got a clue when this was recorded but I do feel envious of those on Ventura Beach, California that Summers day getting Eric Burdon and his band on the stage to play a gig as good as this. EB stuff is not that plentiful and DVD's even less so but here we get him on top form doing a mixture of the hits, and some solid blues that add up to a first class show. The voice as ever is one of the best, the band just cooks all the way through.I don't even know if it's an official release or not, but it's well worth getting hold of if you like one of Newcastle's great exports, the ex-Animals man can still cut it live and has a new album out soon. GOOD STUFF BY A BRITISH BLUES LEGEND !

5.0 out of 5 stars ROY ROGERS AND THE DELTA RHYTHM KINGS LIVE !, 19 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
No this is not the oldtime cowboy star far from it Roy Rogers here is an absolutely sublime slide guitarist who's among his own solo albums has played with some of the greatest blues artists ever including John Lee Hooker. This set recorded live at The Sierra Nevada Brewery Big Room,California in 2004, with his cracking band and some choice guests such as Shana NMorrison (Van's daughter) who has a great bluesy voive, and Norton Buffalo on harmonica (Steve Miller Band etc.) over twelve excellent live tracks that are an absolute must to any blues fan or student of slide guitar. A mix of songs from his solo albums and a couple of top class covers for good measure. His version of Sonny Terry's 'I'm a Stranger Here' with Shana Morrison on vocals, and 'Shake Your Money Maker' with Buffalo's harp really get the feet a tapping,The instrumental'Duck walk' is surely one of the great Slide classics which includes some firy piano as well. This is blues that reaaly lifts and gets those feet moving,an album of outstanding quality and joy that will be played again and again. More please Mr. Rogers this is what the guitar was made for and Oh he has a pretty good voice as well. easy 5 star plus album !

5.0 out of 5 stars HOPE SPRINGS .A VERY ENJOYABLE MOVIE., 19 Jan. 2013
This review is from: Hope Springs (2012) [DVD] (DVD)
Been married a long time, relationship lost it's zest ? Well do something about it,how about a arriage refreshment course, at a nice location. That's what this highly enjoyable film is all about. The pairing of Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones is a treat to behold, and Steve Carrell as the marriage councellor may be one of his best roles yet.The script is real, some great funny lines, and the interplay between Streep and Jones works perfectly. She wants more from the marriasge,he's happy as things are as her settles into middle age, and thinks the cost for the course is too high anyway. This is an adults film in it's content, not in bad mlanguage or sex scenes,no not at all but it's theme. The two main stars are always good but I recommend this as a film that challenges us all to keep relationships special. A very good film, and one to enjoy again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars DANA CAN SING THE BLUES !, 7 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
Live and full of some fantastic music Dana Gillespie, fifty albums to her name before this live set recorded in Mr Kyps in Poole ,Dorset. Her band includes Dino Baptiste (pleyed with John Lee Hooker), Britains best blues guitarist in thirty years Matt Schofield, plus his drummer Evan Jenkins together with others make up the London Blues Band, and what a band. Matt now being a major artist in his own right. This is a set right out of the top drawer od blues and soul.Dana has simply an incredible voice and should not be missed if you like quality, live her delivery and the excellence of her band make this set an absolute joy and one you just would love to have been at.New songs, old songs, songs from previous albums but everyone a winning combination of great artist and equally brilliant band. All I can say is just don't pass on what is an absolute cracker of a live set buy one of the best in the business. She actually headlines the Mustique Blues Festival most years, now there's one festival that would be nice to be at.UNMISSABLE BLUES & BOOGIE.

5.0 out of 5 stars PAUL COX UK'S BEST BLUES/SOUL SINGER., 7 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Real World + 5 Live (Audio CD)
What a voice and what a very fine album this is.Real World came out then down the line got reissued into this addition with five excellent adlive tracks as a bonus, and a very nice bonus indeed.Paul Cox is one of our best voices, sings both the blues and soul so well.Roger Cotton produced this set including the odd cover but full of self written songs as well. The whole becomes a very enjoyable package indeed. It's nice to have the live stuff because having seen him live (how about a live full set next album Paul),he is such a fine artist backed by his excellent band, though on these recordings he has a band wonderfully named Dr.Wu and recorded in Italy obviously while he was on tour there. The whole album, all seventeen tracks add up to over 77 minutes playing time. 12 studio and as said 5 live.Every track is excellent and well chosen to get the best of Paul's voice, very well produced with a couple of tracks with added slide guitar, some funky horns and a whole group of musicians from the best around.
Buy with absolute certainty that you'll love this great British talent who consistently makes top grade albums, and do get to see him live!
