3.0 out of 5 stars Great acting, terrible story., 27 April 2011

I bought this only because I was curious about Tennant's other work aside from Who. I had seen a clip from YouTube and was delighted to discover it was a thriller. Acting wise, I wasn't disappointed. All the characters are unlikeable and unsympathetic which comes across very well. From the obvious villain Block to the less than innocent Cotton. Tennant is hair raisingly evil and unlikeable, yet dangerously charming.

Unfortunately, that's where it all falls apart. The story is implausible and insulting, especially to those who work in law enforcement. The production values are rock bottom low-- I'm not expecting HD, but this looks like cheap dv. The way they handled the subplot of miranda's brother is also clumsy.

As for the DVD itself, the packaging is acceptable for the price. There are no extras whatsoever. Understandable for such a tele movie but disappointing nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality DVD with the best extras, 27 April 2011

The most pleasing thing about the DVD is the inclusion of the unaired pilot, which is basically a slimmer version of episode 1. Wonderful performances from the lead actors, spectacular reimagining from Gatiss and Moffat. I love all the references and updates to the old stories. I'd say it is even better than guy ritchie's hollywood version because it doesn't need Robert downey jr being himself to carry it. Benedict cumberbatch is charismatically charming despite the cold and slightly alien interpretation of Sherlock Holmes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sort of expensive for something so lackluster., 27 April 2011
The book itself seems to be falling apart- it crackles dangerously when you attempt to read it.

And I do mean "attempt". The words are a frenzied scrawl which is fine-- if it hadnt been printed in such low dpi. Cute series memento with a tacky plastic ring.

The book itself is also extremely small-- the size of an adult's hand. Not really worth the price even if you or your child is a fan.
