2.0 out of 5 stars £200 sound, £2 build quality., 18 Aug. 2014
Do not buy these! A nearly £100 reduction is not a bargain, it's an act of desperation.

On the plus side these headphones sound amazing. For the first few hours or days they stay together. Apparently AKG's Chinese manufacturer used the wrong material in the construction which has supposedly since been rectified. Well I'm on my third pair and although they are supposed to be defect free these have also developed a crack in the joint between the element and the headband. Tiesto would never use these in a club, they wouldn't last five minutes.

It's a shame as AKG gear is usually extremely good. They have been seriously let down by their manufacturer as is reflected in the price these headphones now sell for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hi res excellence, 27 May 2014

This remaster is excellent, and the high resolution Blu Ray edition is stunning. You read about hearing details that you may not have noticed before and that claim is justified here - decaying cymbals are just one example.
It's a nice package as well with the liner notes and extra pictures. The bonus video are interesting, shot in Le Studio, though a sign of the times they look like they're played back on old video tape!

Rock Chronicles: A Visual History of the World's Greatest 250 Rock Acts
Rock Chronicles: A Visual History of the World's Greatest 250 Rock Acts
by David Roberts
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £20.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Big and impressive!, 16 Aug. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a hefty book! It contains short histories of most, if not all of the legends of rock music you could possibly think of. There are many artists present who I would not automatically have thought of, including some that have been very influential and successful in other territories than Europe or the USA. This is a good thing, it serves to remind us that the rock world is just as healthy in the far east as it is in the west!

Many of the bands and artists listed have photographs accompanying their histories, but not all - and some of the omissions are a little perplexing.

All in all, this is a good coffee-table book for browsing through as an introduction to the life stories and background to many of the most influential artists in rock music, and surely a springboard to more in depth research if the reader so wishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Rush album in years, 2 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Clockwork Angels (Audio CD)
This album has hardly been out of my cd player or off my record deck (I have both CD and vinyl). This is one of the best Rush albums in years and way more catchy and compelling than either Vapour Trails or Snkes and Arrows. Those albums lacked hooks, for want of a better word, and Geddy's choice of harmonies seemed to interfere with the songs rather than enhance them.

Not so with Clockwork Angels. The music is strong, the vocal lines are melodic and catchy, and there are plenty of powerful guitar and bass riffs to keep us long term fans happy. The album itself hangs together pretty well and rounds off with the gorgeous In The Garden which has echoes of the end of the first side of Hemispheres, Cygnus X-1 book 2.

3.0 out of 5 stars not what it says on the box, 17 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Actually, the TV isn't bad. The only problem is that it isn't full HD at 1080p, it's 720p. The software that compensates and smooths out movement does a great job and where it is placed the TV works just fine. In my opinion a SMART TV should be able to be used straight out of the box as it where, whereas this model needs an additional adapter (Philips own of course, costs around £40...) so we haven't exploited the smart options yet.

You could do worse. But if you want genuine full-HD look elsewhere. And minus points to Amazon who still haven't changed the product description despite acknowledging my criticisms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value pack, 13 May 2013
This double pack contains both Eye To The
Telescope and Acoustic Extravaganza (which itself included a making-of DVD).

Eye is a superb debut album, full of energy and great songs. Acoustic is a lot if fun, fine songs there too and the DVD is an interesting documentary for us rock and roll nerds who like to see behind the scenes!

Drink Me!: How to Choose, Taste and Enjoy Wine
by Matt Walls
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Imformative and fun, 29 Mar. 2013
This book is fun! Informative and helpful, the author is neither patronising nor elitist in his approach. A clear guide to wine styles, their origins and what to look for. I've already found it useful when choosing, buying - and enjoying wines.

News from Gardenia
News from Gardenia
by Robert Llewellyn
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £9.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking, 28 Feb. 2013
This review is from: News from Gardenia (Hardcover)
Less humourous than expected, but actually more enjoyable and thought provoking! It reads somewhat like a travelogue more than a novel, not least because there is no real story arc as such. Worth reading and worth reflecting over its
"green"'message...
