5.0 out of 5 stars Blade 2 (Blu-ray version)..., 20 Nov 2012

This review is from: Blade II [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Originally released at the cinema in the U.K. in March 2002 the sequel to the highly popular Blade movie finally comes to Blu-ray in the U.K. and just like its predecessor Blade 2 in HD has been worth the wait, the DVD released in 2002 had DTS ES 6.1 surround sound as well as Dolby Digital EX 5.1 surround sound and Dolby 2.0 stereo sound, this latest incarnation has DTS-HD master audio 7.1 there is also the same audio in 5.1 and is in full 1080p resolution which makes the colours and blacks really pop the soundtrack has a greater amount of detail the dialogue is easier to hear and the sequences involving small arms fire such as machine guns now jump out of the speakers and any scene that has an explosion in it shakes the room with lots of low end.

There is a rare mistake on the back of the artwork the copy I have says the film is presented in 2.35 aspect ratio this is incorrect the presentation of this film is in the original 1.85 aspect ratio that the director filmed in and the running time is still 117 minutes just like the theatrical and DVD release, there are subtitles for the hard of hearing in English and that's all the subs there are a little short-signed I would have said.
Comparing the special the earlier 2002 release which was a double disc set this 50gb disc has the same special features and a couple of new ones which includes audio commentary from the director Guillermo del Torro where he unravels the multi-layered world he created for the Blade Universe and commentary from Wesley Snipes and writer David S. Goyer.

The features that where on the DVD set also appear such as "The Blood Pact" and deleted scenes with audio from the director and music video from Cypress Hill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tune-up Utilities 2013..., 20 Nov 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have been using a version of this software for a couple of years now and this the latest incarnation is the best I have used not only was the installation easy, drop disc in the drawer close the drive, and the software uninstalls the 2012 version for you, to remove all traces go into the C drive open the program files folder and delete the file with the heading Tune utilities 2012 then run the "one click maintenance" part of the program then redo your profile for such things as your broadband connection this is easy to do just follow the dialogue boxes as they come up.

After this is done maintenance of your P.C. goes on in the background without the user being aware of any difference in performance, I have found since installing this up- dated version I can identify programmes that are slowing down the "boot-up" cycle and the powering down of computer.
As always there are some new features which include a professional standard cleaner to save hard disk space designed to prevent data chaos it also erases traces of your personal files from the hard drive, cleans chat logs, error reports and temp files.

This new version also rids hard disks of browser traces and optimises your browser database in Internet explorer®, Google Chrome®, Opera®, Safari® and Firefox®, I use Firefox® myself and this up-dated software advised me to apply a password to Firefox® for extra security for sites such as Amazon, EBay and Yahoo mail® something I hadn't thought to prevent someone accessing these accounts, I have added the extra password for peace of mind, I figured a little extra hassle but better than be sorry at a later date.

This update also still has battery management for lap-tops and notebooks that the previous version first introduced and still cannot comment on as I use a desk top, but according to the blurb on the box this mode will give a laptop 30% more battery life with a laptop, notebook or tablet, and with a couple of clicks to efficient Window® power management.

I found this to be an essential piece of software to keep my system running at a like new speed both opening and closing documents and day to day tasks such getting "on-line" are faster since including this in my system, TuneUp® have done it again thank you...

5.0 out of 5 stars Blade (Blu-ray version), 14 Oct 2012

This 1998 production directed by Steve Norrington is finally released on Blu-ray in the U.K.; this 50 GB disc is encoded using MPEG-4 codec and is in full 1080p resolution with English DTS master audio 6.1, there is also Dolby 5.1 Russian, German, Italian and Spanish soundtracks along with Dolby Stereo Spanish, Portuguese, Czech and there are 13 sets of subtitles including English, German, Italian, Castilian Spanish, Dutch, Latin Spanish, Portuguese, Czech, Russian and Italian included in the extras are 5 featurettes which include La Magra, Designing Blade, The Origins of Blade, A Look at Dark Comics and The Blood Tide these are in standard definition, the original theatrical trailer is also included and is in standard definition also.

The first question to ask has the wait been worth it?

In my opinion it is a resounding yes this film has never looked or sounded better, I have owned this Film both on VHS and DVD and this latest incarnation on Blu-ray has made this comic book adaptation even more impressive.

The dark atmosphere of the movie is given more depth with the deeper blacks and brighter colours on Blu-ray and the battle scenes involving swords have a satisfying clang and scraping sound and the rat-tat-tat of the machine guns now leap out of the speakers as they rip across the scene along with the crunch of bones as Blade stomps and punches his opponents this brought to life by the thumping 6.1 soundtrack and the new cover art is also an improvement to the earlier DVD sleeve it is also the full 120 minute uncut version of the film...

5.0 out of 5 stars Third time lucky..., 23 Sep 2012

Finally this seminal recording from Bill Nelson created from the ashes of Be-Bop Deluxe has the release it deserves, the first time this collection was released on CD I think it was in the Mid -eighties this was only in America and had the first 14 tracks that are on this pressing, I have only ever seen a copy of it once.

In 1999 Harvest came close to making my Year with the second release of this album on CD and for the first time in the U.K. and now with re-mastered sound but with only the original 12 songs that the vinyl release contained and had none of the B-sides from the 2 singles that were released, and now hurray this third pressing on CD has 20 tracks 4 of which have never been released before.

Comparing pressing number 2 with number 3 I found that the 2012 transfer of the 1999 re-master has better sound with more attack and a better sounding rhythm section and Andy Clark's keyboard sound is re-born highly recommended...

5.0 out of 5 stars Solo album number 7..., 23 Sep 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Bete Noire (Audio CD)
This album was first released in November 1987 it was his seventh solo release, and was the first for his new label Virgin.

Bête Noire reached number 9 in the U.K. album charts the track Right Stuff was the first single released and peaked at number 37 in the British singles chart.
The collection has several co-writing credits including Johnny Marr of the Smiths fame and another with Madonna's producer Pat Leonard, guitarist Chester Kamen and the bassist Guy Pratt.

Most of the 10 tracks follow the same sound first started earlier in the Boys and Girls recordings even to the point of using some of the same high profile musicians such as David Gilmour and Marcus Miller.

The original mastering was done by Bob Ludwig the re-mastering work was also done by him at Gateway Studios Portland Maine this 1999 re-master which is now HDCD encoded and comparing the 87 pressing with the 99 re-master to my ears this recoding now sounds warmer and more detailed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The sixth studio Roxy album..., 14 Sep 2012
This review is from: Manifesto (Audio CD)
Originally released in April 1979 this was the first Roxy Music studio album after their first disbandment 3 years earlier, this when the 3 key members of the group Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera & Andy Mackay had taken the time out to work on solo projects.

The band where now down to 4 original members which included Paul Thompson drums the ranks of the band had been swollen with the addition of Gary Tibbs on bass from the punk band The Vibrators, the original pressing of this album on vinyl had a rock version of "Angel Eyes" with an additional fourth verse and "Dance Away" was a ballad version of the song both of these versions have not been restored on this HDCD encoded pressing from 1999 re-mastered by Bob C. Ludwig of Gateway Studios Portland Maine, the only way to hear that on CD is on the box-set "The Thrill of it all" from 1995 this is a bit of a shame it would have recreated the 1979 album better if they had..

5.0 out of 5 stars Pioneer DVR-S19L x24 writer.., 29 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this as a back-up to the previous model the DVR-S18l x 22 writer, I used that burner for about 28 months with no problems until I had three burn failures in a row so I figured it was time for the replacement to be fitted.

This was as easy as the previous model to fit, took off both side panels of my desk-top P.C. undid the 4 screws holding the burner in place disconnected the power lead and the serial ATA interface lead then manoeuvred the old burner out, then repeated the process in reverse to install the new writer fired-up the computer straight away XP recognized the new hardware, did a couple of test burns, smiles all round that was me back in business..

5.0 out of 5 stars Kapersky One..., 5 Jun 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
With the license of my Kaspersky Pure coming to an end I wondered what the latest version of this anti-virus program had to offer, this time this incarnation gives not only gives protection for lap-tops and desk tops but mobile devices as well such as tablets and smart phones the licence has also been expanded to include 5 devices and not 3 as before the usual parental controls are and more secure on-line banking and shopping even your details on social networks are more secure.
As before the installation couldn't be easier just UN-install the previous version of Kaspersky make you have shut down all other applications, drop the CD ROM into your drive make sure your internet connection is on and your installation is complete in about 10 minutes as I had already used the previous version of the software I didn't have to re-enter any of my personal data so done and dusted it does what it needs to do without me telling it, again the only downside so far is the drop in internet speed when it is up-dating itself but for the protection it gives I can live with that...

5.0 out of 5 stars Pioneer DVR-S18L x22 writer.., 24 Feb 2012

Since the first computer I have owned my preferred brand of writer has been made by Pioneer I have tried other brands such as Samsung and L.G. to name a couple, but I have found for longevity and reliability the writer's made by Pioneer the brand to beat, the only time I have had a burn failure while using this drive is when the blank media itself was faulty and the actual installation was simple remove the old drive take the two little screws that was holding that in place and put them in the Pioneer attach the Sata lead (not supplied) and the power lead and power up as normal and I found my operating system (XP) found and recognized the drive no problem and my drive also came with Nero 9 burning software and a small gripper bag with two screws there is also easy follow instructions of how to fit the writer and in no time at all I was up and running burning both CD and DVD discs and after nearly two years and heaps of burns later it's still going strong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fellows Blu-Ray & DVD cleaner, 20 Feb 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
For cleaning my Panasonic Blu-ray player model DMP-BD85 up until now I have used a pro Blu-ray laser lens made by Maxell which has a voice guide to tell you when the cleaning process begins and ends, this takes about 25 seconds, this disc also tests 5.1 surround sound systems as well as the newer 7.1 surround configuration where as the Fellows disc only tests 5.1 surround sound but does have more language options than the Maxell disc, that has 8 choices where the Fellows has 13, both disc's take about the same length of time to do the job of cleaning which is around about 25 to 30 seconds, the Maxell disc has an animated character on the screen while cleaning is done the Fellows has classical music and close-up film of butterflies collecting nectar and when using it you need to make sure the three brushes on the playing side of the disc are facing forward as you place it in the tray of your player and something to note this cleaner can be used in a DVD player but not in a CD player.

I cannot comment on the effectiveness of the surround tests as I don't own a surround sound system and something for the makers using a voice guide for the user would make this a five star product and the packing the disc comes in could be dropped as the same info is on the back of the box, all in all a useful disc for the home cinema owner at this reasonable price...
