3.0 out of 5 stars Panasonic wet/dry washable shaver (ES-LV95-s), 28 Jun 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The first thing to say about this shaver is to read the manual as the approach that Panasonic have taken with this shaver is different to any of the previous shaver models I have used which where all made by Braun.

First thing to get used too is the larger than normal shaver head took me a few uses to get to grips with, the shaver feels good in your hand solid but not to heavy with its chrome and black design not only did I find it pleasing to the eye and to the hand the 5 blade cutting system which this shaver uses did a great job of removing the stubble on my face which I tried at different days of growth from 1 to 3 days, it did shave closely but caused redness on my neck area.

Putting this shaver on charge out of the box the blue LED informs of the status of the shaver the readout tells you in percentages the amount of power the shaver has been charged with the on/off button which does have a lock ring which I found until I got used I did kept catching with my fingers and slid the ring into the lock position and when you do this the shaver is locked on but in the lock position next to the pad-lock symbol the shaver will not go on prefect for when you are travelling when you have it placed in a bag or case, with the power lead attached and plugged in the shaver will not go on and there is a red LED to show the shaver is plugged into the mains, another thing to note about the on switch is when in O position which is "on" you can press the button once and the shaver goes into sensor mode(which you can tell by the graph symbol on the front of the shaver) this means the motor speeds up for heavier areas of stubble which I found worked best for me with my fair skin and not to heavy growth of bread with the shaver head in the locked position (this is way it is best to read the manual before using the shaver) press the button again the shaver goes into normal mode, the thing I found awkward to use was the trimmer which you do by sliding the button beside a comb symbol up-wards to lock the trimmer into position to trim sideburns and moustaches.

What comes in the box is a power lead a small bottle of oil to lubricate the blades a sachet of cleaning fluid for the cleaning tank, you use the tank with the shaver up-side down and match up the three metal buttons which are in a "V" formation on the back of the shaver with three buttons in the tank, a plastic carrying case and a protective cap for the shaving head for a shaver with this kind of price tag I would have expected the case to be leather and there to be a bottle of fluid for the cleaning tank at least the shaver does a good job but does it justify its price in a word "NO" I think well under the two hundred pounds maybe the replacement parts such as the cleaning fluid (box of 3 about£15.00)and foils are also expensive (£50.00) a five star performance shaving wise let down by poor presentation and expensive replacement parts.....

Director John Boorman brings to the screen the Arthurian legend in this 1981 production which draws its material from the works of Sir Thomas Malory's "Le Morte d'Arthur" version of the story with the part of Merlin played by Scottish born Nicol Williamson who steals every scene he is in, he plays Merlin great gusto and style, John Boorman creates a film that is both beautiful and frustrating to look at with scenes full of fog and filmed through filters and uses natural light so much so the modern film fan is going to be a bit bemused by the films look but it's look was the director intention but in saying that the transfer in the MPEG-4 AVC codec in full 1080p resolution on this 50GB region free disc leaves a lot to be desired with some scenes looking stunning and others looking very ordinary.

I wish I could report that the audio track was a redeeming feature but the DTS-HD Master audio 5.1 sounds flat erratic although the dialogue is clear and intelligible on the whole but sound effects such as horse hoof beats are reduced to weak and sluggish rumble, the special features are as follows the original trailer and a really dull commentary by director John Boorman.
There are also audio tracks in French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese and Czech in Dolby Digital Mono, there are also subtitles in the following: - English for the hard of hearing French, Spanish, Portuguese, Czech, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, German and Italian for the hard of hearing.

The film has the running time has been restored to 2hours 20 minutes which is better than the US edited version of 119 minutes at the cinema.

With the current state of affairs with this release it is for die-hard fans of the film and if you can find it at the right price I would recommend for the moment stick to the UK DVD version...
My 3 star rating reflects the quality of the Blu-ray and not the film itself which is at least 4.5....

This 1985 production starring and directed by Clint Eastwood, Pale Rider was the first Western that Eastwood had made in nine years which is the story of pan mining gold miners in California who are besieged by the neighbouring landowner who is intent on stealing on their claims.

This Blu-ray was released in 2010 with a different cover to the 2008 version both issues are region free and are both 25GB discs as well as both being encoded using the VC-1 codec in full 1080p resolution and both are in 2.40.1 aspect ratio which is different from the original cinema release which was 2.35.1 aspect ratio having not seen the earlier released Blu-ray so I am unable to comment on that transfer but what I can comment on is the difference between DVD and the Blu-ray format; the DVD looks like you are viewing the film through fog the colours where pastel looking and lacked any brightness and depth compared to Blu-ray version which has a better range of blacks and hues both issues of the Blu-ray's appear to have the same audio tracks English Dolby TrueHD 5.1, English Dolby Digital 5.1 and French, Spanish, Japanese Dolby Mono tracks along with the same subtitles which are as follows:- English subtitles for the hard of Hearing, French, Portuguese German, German for the hard of Hearing, Italian, Italian for the hard of Hearing, Danish, Finnish and Swedish both Blu-ray's have no extra features except the original theatrical trailer.
A worthy up-date from the DVD issue if you can find the Blu-ray at a decent price...

Ultrasport Men's Miami Polo Shirt - White, Small

4.0 out of 5 stars Ultrasport Miami Polo Shirt, 24 May 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This Summer polo shirt came in clear easy to open clear bag the first thing I noticed about it was the strange smell coming from I put this down to the dressing manufacturers put on garments to make them look good in the bag and for make them sit well on the display shelves in shops, I just knew I couldn’t wear it the way it was when it arrived so first thing to do was put it in the washing machine, the shirt washed well with none of the bright colours or the embroidered patches or the stencils that are on the shirt that make up the design running or bleeding at a 40 degree wash and the white of the main body of the shirt stayed nice and white. With the eye-catching design of this shirt it would ideal or either day or evening wear it also came with a spare button.

Set in 1327 the story is of a Benedictine Abbey where the monks believe the end of the World is coming after an unexplained death. Murray Abraham
This 1986 production directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud comes to Blu-ray in August 2011 sadly only released in America but this region free 50GB disc is encoded using the MPEG-4 AVC codec in full 1080p resolution in the aspect ratio of 1.77:1 this changed from the original aspect of 1.85:1 this is no great hardship the DVD was of a similar presentation which was 1.78:1 from the 1.85:1 the picture which is an up-grade from the DVD with a sharper and more detailed picture but the real star of this of this disc is the audio which not be all explosions and gunfire but the ambience of the halls and stone rooms with their weird echoes that waft across the sound field give a very unsettling sound presentation the English DTS-HD Master Audio is a real joy there are also tracks in Dolby Stereo in French, Italian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian and a Mono track in Spanish and there are Subtitles in English for the hard of hearing, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Hungarian, Polish, Swedish and Norwegian.

From the DVD version
Alternative ending with optional director commentary
Deleted Scenes with optional commentary
Seven Featurettes

Comparing the Blu-ray against the DVD the image is blurry on the DVD, the Blu-ray is a sharp and clear image with a greater and bigger amount of colours and the edges of the image is clearer and the actors have a natural skin tone and the shadows are more defined with deeper blacks and greys.
This is a great piece of family entertainment and a worthy addition to a Blu-Ray library with its superb transfer which delivers a sharp image along with an excellent soundtrack which has enough punch and kick for any surround sound set-up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Robin Hood (Blu-ray Version), 30 April 2014
Director Ridley Scott 2010 production retells the story of Robin (Hood) Longstride who is played by Russell Crowe who is in the returning army coming home after a ten years absence while fighting in the Crusade of Richard the Loin-heart played by Danny Huston is killed on the last part of the journey home to England this version of the legend presents a more gritty version of the character with dirt, blood and sweat aplenty for a more realistic and a different version of the well-know tale.
Scott recreates battle scenes very well which are not just there for gory entertainment but are part of the plot and adds greatly to the storytelling.

This region free 50GB disc is encoded with the MPEG-4 AVC codec the original aspect ratio in the cinema was 2.39.1 this disc is changed to 2.40.1 the audio tracks are as follows English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 along with Catalan, French, German, Italian and Spanish DTS 5.1audio tracks there are also subtitles English for the Hard of hearing, French, German, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Icelandic, Korean, Swedish, Traditional Mandarin and Norwegian.
There are also two versions of the feature the original Theatrical running time of 140 minutes or the Directors cut of 156 minutes the first pressing comes in a slip-cover.

The sound and picture quality of this Blu-ray are of reference standard the colour palette along with the range of blacks make for an excellent test for Televisions and the music soundtrack along with the sound effects during the battle scenes will test the speakers and amplifier of any surround sound set-up.

The bonus features on the Blu-ray are as follows Directors notebook which is in HD, The Art of Nottingham which is in HD (production and costume design) and the pocket Blu app for iPhone or iPad touch.

Director John Carpenter 1986 production which was a box-office flop combing as it does several genres in one film which are fantasy action adventure and kung- fu the story is about an all-American trucker who gets dragged into a century's old mystical war through no fault of his own as he and his friend Wang who are at the airport to pick up Wang's bride to be who just happens to have emerald green eyes this is the colour of eyes the evil sorcerer Lo Pan must marry to regain his physical form.
Jack and Wang must save Wang's fiancée Miao Yin from Lo Pan and his henchmen and Jack must get back his stolen truck in the process all in Chinatown where magic seems to exist.
This 50GB Region free disc was released in 2009 in the US and is encoded with the MPEG-4 codec in full 1080p resolution film is in the original Aspect ratio of 2.35.1 with English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48 kHz 24 bit) along with Russian, French, Spanish and Portuguese Dolby Digital 5.1, English and Thai Stereo audio tracks there are also subtitles in the following languages: - English for the hard of hearing, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Thai and traditional Mandarin.
The Special features are as follows: - Audio commentary from John Carpenter and Kurt Russell
An All new 5.1 DTS Isolated Score track
Deleted Scenes
Extended Ending
Vintage Featurette
Music Video
Richard Edlund interview
Trailers and TV spots

Doing a direct comparison with the DVD the Blu-ray sound brings the audio track to life the dialogue is always clear and easy to understand and sound effects of the different clans fighting as they kick and punch at each along with the sound of hand-held weapons such as swords now crash and clang clearly out of the speakers and the picture doesn't have the fuzzy edges to the colour that the DVD has along with a better range of colours and the difference in the range of blacks is staggering in the scenes in the tunnels under Chinatown is so much better the detail of the faces and flesh tones of the actors is more realistic and the special effects for some reason don't seem so dated in the HD format the cover artwork is an improvement on the region 2 release of 2004 as well; worth the up-grade if you can find a copy at a low enough price...

This review is from: Mongol [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Director Sergey Bodrov brings to the screen in this 2007 production with the use of stunning cinematography by Rogier Stoffers and Sergey Trofimov which shows off the vistas of Kazakhstan and China to great effect; the story tells of the early life of Genghis Khan and how events in the early part of his life lead him to become the legendary conqueror who rose from slavery to conquer half the World.
This region B 25GB disc for once is superior to the US region free release as audio track on the region B copy of this movie has Mongolian DTS-HD Master Audio and Mongolian Dolby Digital Stereo with Hard encoded English subtitles whereas the American copy is only Dolby Digital 5.1 with English and Spanish subtitles the UK release is encoded using VC-1 codec as is the US but the UK version is in the original 2.39.1 aspect ratio the American has been changed to 2.35.1 ratio both copies are in full 1080p resolution but the UK copy seems to have had a better transfer showing off the wonderful landscapes to their full effect, there are only a couple of bonus items "The making of Mongol" and the theatrical trailer there also appears to be no extras at all on the US copy both versions of the movie have the full running time of 126 minutes.

Comparing the Blu-ray against the DVD the sound of the horses hoof beats thunder across the plains watching the Blu-ray along with a better and more realistic palette of colours that look brighter and clearer and now watching the Blu-ray the DVD has a lifeless and dull looking with a lacklustre soundtrack that sounds muffled compared to the HD format a worthy addition to a Blu-ray collection.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Braun Series 3 340s-4 Rechargeable Wet and Dry Foil Electric Shaver..., 24 April 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The last couple of electric shavers I have owned and used have all been from the maker Braun who make shavers that give me the closeness of shave I am looking for without causing too much redness on my face having a fair skin type my daily growth of beard isn’t too heavy, for testing this shaver the first shave I had with it after leaving the shaver to charge for about an hour was about eight days worth of growth which is a tough test for any shaver wet or dry to start with the differing lengths of stubble where catching slightly and pulling which was a little uncomfortable but after a bit of time and the removal of some of the growth the 340 came into its own removing the hairs and stubble I still had, I still had to pull my face slightly to make it taught in areas such as under my neck and jaw line , I will say the precision long hair trimmer worked well tiding my side lappers well, what I missed from the other Braun (series 3 390cc) shaver I own is the lock on the foil which lowers the front of the foil this allows me to tidy the growth under my noise and remove of the stubble after the side lapper trimming, the second shave I had with the 340 was after just one day growth this followed the same pattern as the first but was a lot faster but I found this shave still left me with slight redness, the third and final shave I had was using shaving Gel and after three days growth of beard the 340 was a better performer with the application of the shaving gel the 340 did not catch my face at all, I did use it like you would a wet razor and not in a shower but over a sink so in closing in experience the 340 seems to work best using it like a wet razor but only problem with that for me is seeing what you have and haven’t shaved but the sleek design of this model did make it easy to handle even with wet hands the shaver appears to be water-proof and with a mirror in your shower which didn’t steam-up this would make a good addition to your shower routine.
