2.0 out of 5 stars Below-bar Carpenter, 21 Oct. 2014

This review is from: The Ward (Amazon Instant Video)
Predictable ghost-in-a-psychiatric-hospital chiller. There are a few effective shockers, the 1960s setting makes a nice change and Amber Heard and Jared Harris are decent enough, but the story is thin (complete with a fairly obvious twist), the dialogue is cut-and-pasted from a thousand other horrors, and it's a long way from Carpenter's glory days of The Thing and Halloween.

Fast, exciting and positive melodic hardcore with great vocals. Better than the band's later rapcore stuff, though the lyrics are pretty simplistic.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring and humourless remake, 10 Oct. 2014
A mostly boring and humourless remake that pales in comparison to both the OTT Arnie extravaganza and the original Phillip K. Dick short story. The characters have zero depth, the main villain lacks menace, the action scenes are repetitive and lack tension and the story, by the end, is confusing and dull. It wears its influences on its sleeve (the Matrix, Inception, Blade Runner, Minority Report), but just isn't in the same league as those classics. There's a scattering of neat sci-fi ideas (the camera-bomb is cool), but you're best off sticking to the old Arnie movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great British punk band, 14 Jan. 2014

Picked this up after hearing a couple of singles, and it's one of the best UK punk records I've heard in last few years. Vocals akin to a punkier Billy Bragg, heartfelt lyrics and great tunes. Music-wise it's a bit like Leatherface, a bit like Jawbreaker, a bit like Hot Water Music, a bit like the Jam, but they have their own sound too. Highlight for was The King of Exwick.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining doc for slasher fans, 14 Sept. 2013

As a big slasher fan, I was looking for to seeing this one - and wasn't disappointed. An impressive selection of talking heads give a good insight into the genre, and the clips make you want to go and see all the movies discussed immediately. Plus there are loads of extras. Def recommended for fans of the genre!

1.0 out of 5 stars Appalling, 15 Oct. 2010
I can only imagine that the majority of the positive reviews here were written by people involved in the production. This is the just about the worst zombie film I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot) - crude, amateurish, woefully unfunny and featuring lots of deeply unlikable characters. In fact, it's virtually unwatchable.
