3.0 out of 5 stars Rushed, lacking.. but honest in parts.. expected more, 12 Oct 2012
This review is from: Cheryl: My Story (Hardcover)
I read this book in a day. I was bored at work and bought it on my lunch break (20 from WH Smith. Quite expensive). By midnight I'd finished it. Although I feel she has been honest, she doesn't tend to go into great detail describing things, she just whizzes through and offers her opinion, and it comes across to me that this book was rushed. Her recount of the nightclub assault incident was lacking and hurried which made me doubt her innocence, but who am I to judge? I do like her, she seems a very fragile and unstable young woman. Poor thing, she admits to using tranquilizers and sleeping pills to get her through when life gets bad. Bless her. She still loves Ashley it's evident, most of the last two thirds of this book are about him and what she went through. It seems she divorced him because she felt she had to, to save face, to him, the media and the world. The book left me thinking, If Rihanna And Chris Brown can reunite, can Cheryl and Ashley? If she could get him to talk and open up, perhaps in counseling or marriage guidance, could they make it work again? It's obvious they still love each other, the problem is why Ashley does what he does and why he can't explain himself. I gave this book only 3 stars because there's room for improvement, the pictures weren't that great, we've seen most of them before. It's an insight, I just wanted more that's all...

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT! I LOVED IT AND I'M SAD IT'S OVER :(, 19 Sep 2012

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to EL James for writing this beautiful story and allowing me to escape again if only for a week. I had forgotten how to dream and fantasise but you have rekindled my passion for romance escapism and fairytale.
This past week i have been hooked on this trilogy, up all night and losing sleep. I have laughed and i have cried and now i'm gutted it's over. All i have now to look forward to is the film and i'll be there on opening night! Please please please cast Alexis Bledel as Anastasia, she is perfect for the role and cast Matt Bomer as Christian.
Another reviewer on here has asked that the author releases a 4th book to this collection and it will be entirely Christian's side of the story and his thoughts and feelings. I would absolutely love that and i think it's a fantastic idea as i loved his version of events and of his first meeting with Anastasia at the very end of this book. I hope to God EL James picks up on this idea and releases that much needed book. It's what us Fifty Shades fans all want and need!
I hope and pray the author writes more love story's like this, they fill a gap in my life xxx

4.0 out of 5 stars Go on, admit it, most of us females fantasise like this.., 13 Sep 2012
This review is from: Fifty Shades of Grey (Paperback)
Having read the reviews on here I was put off buying this book, so I didn't, I didn't want to line the authors pocket if the book ended up being crap. I hate that feeling of wasting money, even if only a few pounds, on buying into "the hype".
A colleague at work borrowed me her copy and I couldn't wait to get stuck in and find out what all the fuss was about. She gave up reading halfway through because she was verbally assaulted by a man on the bus while she was reading it! Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down, I was hooked ;)
It is what it is. A romance novel. Erotica. Call it trashy if you wish. Why so many reviews about editing and poor writing I don't know because the book doesn't claim to be Shakespeare or a thesis on quantum physics. If you're an "intelligent reader" who can only stomach "intelligent books" then this book is not for you. This book is aimed at romantic daydreamers. Fantasists. Lovers of love, passion and drama. Why it's been nicknamed "mummy porn" baffles the hell outta me because I feel it's been written for twenty/thirty somethings and quite frankly that very term "mummy porn" is off putting. It's too young a book to be middle aged...
Ok the writing may be repetitive but I love it because it is everything I secretly fantasise about (come on, confess, you too) meeting a rich, successful, beautiful and complex man with his playboy tendencies and him falling in love with me and only me and giving up his bachelor lifestyle to treat me like a princess, lavish me with expensive gifts and live happy ever after. A girl can daydream and this book is perfect fodder for that.
I love the conversations Anastasia has with herself, her inner goddess, it's funny and it's what makes the book I think. It's a great way to let us know what she's thinking and understanding the turmoils she feels within herself. I also love the suggestive flirty banter she exchanges with Christian (we've all done/said it) Ok it's corny I know but I couldn't get enough of it and yes it did make me laugh!
Something about this book that confuses and dissapoints me and stops me from giving 4 stars and not 5 is the much too frequent condom use and the references to "the foil packet". I understand the author is being sensible and doing her bit for "safe sex" but I don't understand why so many references and why after all the references the author didn't go into more graphic detail explaining the difference in the sex when they were no longer using the condoms and how Anastasia felt. I know it's rather rude and naughty of me but she kinda went on and on about it so that was one scene I needed to read and was expecting and looking forward too and was rather let down when no mention was made.
All in all I loved this book, it was 500+ pages of young unadulterated dramatic fantasy lust and craving. I don't care if people think it's trashy and silly. Don't take yourselves so seriously, lighten up people.
I don't know if Anastasia gets her happy ending because the end of the book left me hanging, and crying, and, in fifty shades style "yearning for more" Lol. I knew a few chapters into this book that my money wouldn't be wasted on the rest of the trilogy so I have ordered Darker and Freed and I can't wait for them to arrive. Hurry up Mr Postman I don't know what to do with myself while I'm waiting...

If ever there was a book that explained my interpretation of life and heaven then this is it. If you have ever doubted yourself and your existence then read this book and you will realise that we are all connected and we are all here for a reason. A purpose. However dull or meaningless your life may seem you are precious and needed and hopefully you won't have to wait until you meet those five people in heaven for you to understand this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ, 3 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is one of the best autobiographies I have ever read, along with Geri Halliwell If Only, Paul Gascoigne Gazza and Daniella Westbrook The Other Side Of Nowhere.
I bought this book about 4 years ago and have read it about 5 times. Stan is witty and actually quite intelligent, not at all your typical empty vapid football player.
This book is a gooden. A tell all and compelling. You learn about his childhood, his battle with depression, his ups his downs, his life as a football player, the money, the women, the scandal.
Truth be told I only bought this book to find out the ins and outs of the infamous tempestuous love affair with Ms Jonsson. The reason for that was because I myself was in the midst of a passionate and fiery relationship and wanted to read from a mans point of view the reasons as to what made his relationship with Ulrika so volatile and intense.
My heart hurts for him when reading the diary sections of the book where he was writing page after page on Ulrika. He was pining for her endlessly and I really felt his pain.
Even though I found Stan to be quite honest and open with his thoughts and feelings, I can't help but feel that he still couldn't accept responsibility for his actions, it always seemed to be someone else's fault. Many years have passed since all the scandal and since this book was written. I hope that in this time Stan has learned from his mistakes and realised he himself was responsible for his own downfall. I hope he has conquered his demons and found happiness. Everyone deserves to be happy.
