5.0 out of 5 stars Best thing Neil Young never wrote, 1 Jan 2014
Simply blinding. Fabulous song writing and playing. Up there with John Murry's - Graceless Age. Not a slow burner, instant classic. BUY!

4.0 out of 5 stars Destination Krautrock!, 17 May 2005
This review is from: Satan's Circus (Audio CD)
DIV return with a stonker. Gone are the hit n miss collaborations and in comes bucketfuls of motorik neu and can influences. If you enjoy music that slowly grows on you ( eg Ulrich Schnauss, Afuken etc) this is a must have! It's almost bare instrumentation sounds very refreshing in this day and age. Whatever preconceptions you may have about Death In Vegas, i strongly recommend that you leave them behind and dive in! Fans of LCD Soundsystem, Kraftwerk and Vitalic will love this! I DO!
I wonder what the lost Oasis album would of sounded like?

3.0 out of 5 stars Ropey!!, 4 Nov 2004
Not bad, not good, Average, occaissionally gripping, powerful in parts, dated in others, a bit jesus jones, a bit blue aeroplanes, could be a hell of a lot punchier, some people say it's a hacienda homage, is it heck as like?, very poor choice of producer, do buy Gotham! though!! thats brilliant and it sounds lovely (DFA rool!!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Phunk Classic Masterclass, 22 Jan 2004
Yeah yeah the Rapture, Radio 4, Colder and Playgroup etc etc. Well as great as they all are Gang of Four were the original Blueprint. This collection is chock full songs so sharp that you may take your ears out listening to them. Throughout these 20 tracks there are enough sharp angular guitar riffs and polemic bass beats to put a thousand Franz Ferdinands and Elasticas to sleep. This stuff is very popular at the mo, and so it should be. Gang of four are true innovators and should be as remembered in such company as New Order, Talking Heads and Pil. Maybe now they will.Arty manifesto punks need your attention, Look it's cheap too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool as folk!, 22 Jan 2004
This review is from: Stitches (Audio CD)
Ramshackle, recorded in a dustbin it may be, but brilliant! More structured than the debut, Stitches is an engrossing listen. The Boggs are akin to Godspeed You Black Emperor! with a less "the world is doomed attitude". Astray is a Tom Waits style ballad and Yes,Darling is a punk funk folk (if such a thing exsists) gem. They have been called The folk Strokes, but that means very little to be honest, they may have similar haircuts and tees but thats it! Judge them on their own merit and order now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Mr Jackson what have you done?, 16 Oct 2003
This review is from: Playgroup (Audio CD)
You've only gone and made one the freshest and goddamn rump shakingly brilliant albums of recent years!
I have scanned the reviews that have been written and it seems that you will either love this or not care one jot about it. I implore you to buy it as it sounds like a lot of stuff but then again this is just a little bit different. Playgroup is disco, post punk, daft punk, dancehall, disco ball and back again...twice! There is some very well constructed tracks on this album that build like proper songs and are made to be listened to rather than just heard. I won't single out any tracks as that would be unfair to the others, so just add this to your "I must spend some money!..On what though... list"

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastically Wonderfully Good!!, 15 Oct 2003
This review is from: 1972 (Audio CD)
Some may say "That's a bit dull isn't it?" Others "It'll be nice in the background while people are over". I say no! It's lovely, it's really good! If you like lying back and feeling sad, happy and a bit Sundayish, buy this. It's sort of americana nu-country meets stax horns with a bit of porch sitting maybe? And Grant Lee Buffalo, Fuzzy era meets Curtis Mayfield. Or maybe it's more like......................

5.0 out of 5 stars Best 12" since da funk!, 23 Jun 2003
This review is from: Losing My Edge [12" VINYL] (Vinyl)
At last! a record that is truly worthy of being given top marks, 100%, 10 out of 10, for some time now. It is too cool for school, but who cares? It's the perfect record for that special record boy/girl in your life. The b side is near perfection too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Try asking for this down your local record shop !!!, 11 Jun 2003
I got this purely based on my liking for the LCD Soundsystem and Zongamin cos it's a part of that punk funk thing, which is so popular at the mo! It seems strange that Warp would put this out but i'm glad they did it's unlike anything out at the moment. If you like The Rapture or Radio 4 then this will blow your socks off. It's neither guitary or electronic, it's a perfect blend of both. It does not sound like ropey indie dance or high brow chill out nonsense. I won't explain what the music sounds like cos I can't. Only that it has a good beat!
P.S I gave it 4 stars because I want more! ( as the great CAN once sang )
