5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and effective, add an external TS-9 antenna for use in marginal signal areas., 29 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Even with it's modest internal antenna this is an excellent unit. When you can connect to 4G speeds are very respectable. An external antenna helps in marginal signal areas. The web interface for setting up the unit is slick and effective. I have discovered one issue and that is that the wired (via USB) and WiFi client networks cannot share the same forth digit subnet - setting this in the config causes the unit to malfunction and prevents connections via WiFi. Apart from this annoyance the unit works well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Questionable quality leads to safety concerns - UPDATED, 29 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Let's be clear here, these are inexpensive radios with good range and a host of capabilities so on that note they score highly. Quality of the supporting hardware is very questionable. For example, the 12V power supplies that accompany the charging cradles are not CE marked nor to they carry any certification. When I plugged the first one in it physically exploded, the case ruptured and sent pieces of power supply all over the room, it blew my house fuse. Needless to say I have not plugged in the second power supply - it's not worth the risk of it failing or starting a fire, if you have a power supply sold with a GT-3 and it does not carry a CE mark throw it away and buy a safe one, your house insurer will thank you. Second, the supplied USB programming cable does not function - it contains a counterfeit Prolific chip set which the Prolific driver will not initialise, so that component is also useless. The moral here is that you get what you pay for.

UPDATE: The suppliers of the radios promptly contacted me after this initial review and have been very responsive in addressing the concerns raised above. The issue with the programming lead was due to an incorrect version of the USB driver that shipped with the lead (the supplier directed me to a website with a working driver) and they assure me that the concerns about the power supplies are under investigation.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not compatible with some hardware (Daktronics - HyTek for example), 17 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a high quality and well functioning USB to RS232 adapter, make no mistake. It's highly rated reviews attest to this. However its Prolific chip set is not compatible with some hardware especially it seems devices that require the exchange of 'nul' i.e. ASCII code 00 characters. It is not compatible with HyTek's Meet Manager and Daktronics race timing hardware and will cause Run-time error 8020. Choose a FTDI or Moxa adapter for this equipment or if you know you'll be communicating with nul characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinarily competent NAS and worth every cent., 11 May 2014
I purchased this NAS after a single-drive WD MyBook failure and I regret not having bought one earlier.

Config for the DS214se is with two WD Red 2TB drives. I purchased the NAS and drives separately as this was cheaper. Installation was very simple, and the system was up an running within the hour from opening boxes.

Where this unit has surpassed all expectation is with its software and OS. The NAS runs a fully fledged OS that you communicate with through a web browser. The interface is a dream. You down load 'apps' to the NAS for additional functionality.

The most staggering achievement though was in recovering from my failed WD MyBook HDD. The embedded controller in the WD NAS failed leaving the HDD intact. The WD NAS drive was formatted with the Linux ext3 file system which cannot be read in Win7 without additional software (such as excellent Ext2 volume manager), however I plugged the old WD HDD into the USB port on the DS214se NAS via a StarTech USB to SATA/IDE converter (USB3SSATAIDE)... and the DS214se mounted the drive and I retrieved all the data from it over night. To put that into perspective the DS214se was able to interface seamlessly through a third party external HDD interface with no effort on my part. Such is the quality of the Synology OS. This functionality is worth every penny and I'd rate the unit six stars if possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very high quality and capable portable speaker, 11 Dec. 2011
The minirig is a game changing portable speaker. It's light weight, superbly designed and is wonderfully focused on what it's supposed to do - that is, play music well and without fuss. About that focus... there's no on/off switch or volume control, you just plug in the supplied 3.5mm jack-to-jack lead to the minirig and your iPhone/pod/phone/pc... and away you go. I use the low-gain (bottom) input for all my sources. The tonal quality of the reproduction is frankly amazing for such a small unit, there's no compromise of any parts of the audible spectrum and as such the minirig doesn't behave as if it's covering up flaws in its response, it's faithful all the way to the practical limits of the size of the speaker. I love the fact that it's monaural too, there's no benefit from having stereo speakers in a compact unit and the fact that you can easily get your friends second minirig _and_ move them apart for good stereo reproduction makes 100% sense. Some people may criticise the lack of airtunes or bluetooth but the fact that the minirig uses a cable means it's compatible with everything and works without dropouts etc. Having used my minirig for a week I'm happy to say I've no longer any hankering for a bose sounddock, this little device will do quite nicely. Finally, I've found that placing the minirig about a foot from the corner of two walls fills a room nicely with luscious sound.

Nite Ize Spotlit LED Collar Light
Nite Ize Spotlit LED Collar Light
Price: £6.16 - £22.40

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly effective for dog walking, 30 Nov. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I use one of these white SpotLit lights attached to my dog's collar while walking in the dark winter nights. The device has proven, over the last month, to be excellent. The clip is extremely sturdy, the light cast is highly visible at night, and after a month battery life and reliability are faultless. I have not tested its abilities to withstand water submersion however the tight fitting molded design looks as if this will not be a problem. Be sure to follow the instructions to deactivate 'demo' mode on purchase and if you want maximum visibility for you and others to see your dog I'd recommend the white version.
