1.0 out of 5 stars shocking how bad this actually is., 19 Mar. 2014

This review is from: WORLD WAR HULK (Paperback)
if I could give this book 0 stars I would, it is just absolutely shocking that the people at marvel ever greenlit a book this bad.

The story is simple and basic and at times feelz like it was written for children, there are so many instances where the story conveniently omits certain details to make hulk ths winner or explains how he wins in a way that is completely unrealistic and to anyone who is well versed in the marvel comic universe just seems ludicrous. the main example of thiz is the way in which any of the characters are taken down as easily as if I disaptched them myself.

Now, for reasons that escape me john romita jr is well received by some fans, I just don't get it, his artwork is terrible and doeznt suit the supposed fast paced scenes within the book, every character has the same look about them, other than uniform and it is just simple and very blocky, if you like this then great I just didn't like the art on a single page, cover artist shouldv'e drawn the main story.

Greg Pak is clearly a hulk fan boy, and I think the book suffers because of it, I own in excess of 300 graphic novels and this is by far the absolute worst of them, i'm ashamed to say that it is part of my collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Words fail me,, 20 Feb. 2014
Went to see this film 3 times at the cinema, each time I loved it more than the last, the tone is so refreshingly different to the first one (and I do love the first Thor film too) and the relationships are taken to thwir next level between all relevant characters. The sets and CGI are beautiful and the humour is just what you would expect from marvel (if you dont like humour mixed in with action and family fun then possibly not for you).

Thor: The Dark World is every bit the successor to Thor and the Avengers and a worthy addition to the marvel cinematic universe, could not reccomend enough for all the family alike really.

Bring on Captain America: Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy

1.0 out of 5 stars SPOILERS!!!!!! What were they thinking., 16 Jan. 2014
I love superhero films and don't let the whole marvel/DC sway my decision to watch a film either way and like and dislike films originating from both companies. I will however state that I have never written a review on amazon until now becuase I dislike this film that much.

I will start by saying that some of the actors are at times brilliant, Henry Cavill is physically Impressive as the title character and Michael Shannon as Zod is extremely good, as well as some of the supporting characters. My favourite thing about the film is the score by Hans Zimmer, very hard to do a superman score after the original is so widely liked, but I really do love the score to MOS.

I will honestly try not to ramble as I express the sheer volume of problems I have with this film, in a nutshell I would describe this film as all flash and bang with no real heart. The sheer level of disaster porn (explosions, destruction and fighting) is just so immense and goes on for so long that it sacrifices and real chance at character development. Any scenes that are designed to pull at heart strings or flesh out characters just feels flat or downright ridiculous, after finishing this film I just didnt care about the characters or what they had been through at all.

My second biggest issue with the film is the complete lack of any internal logic, things happen for seemingly no proper reason other than for plot convenience, or becuase the character is considered to be significant. Examples include; Louis being taken aboard the Kryptonian ship for seemingly no valid reason, Kryptonians having and adapting to powers despite it taking Clark most of his life, and Clark failing to seek advice from holographic jor-el, instead relying on louis and the military.

This is a good looking film that attempts to be a ground breaking glorious redefining of the superhero genre and instead falls completely and ineptly short of many many marks. It is far from the worst superhero film ever made but honestly so far from the best too. I just shudder to think how they are going to mishandle the Man of Steel sequel considering, so far, it has Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in it.
