All work and no play makes jack a dull boy......!, 11 Feb 2008
Fantastic film with Jack Nicholson at his psychotic best!A family spend the winter at a remote hotel in the mountains. Things seem normal to begin with. Then the boy, Danny, also on top form for such a young actor, starts to have terrifying visions. Jack slowly starts to lose his mind and everything starts to spiral terrifyingly out of control. If you want a truly scary, creepy disturbing film this is it. This film has it all, including two of the creepiest gruesome looking identical twins I have ever seen.....!watch this if you haven 't already. Atmospheric, and truly chilling.

watch the original!, 19 Jan 2008
I was sceptical to say the least when I learned this classic chiller was being remade.I can remember watching the old version with my parents as a child and being absolutely terrified.I even remember thinking to myself at the time, this is one film I won't forget easily. However, I decided to give the new version a chance. Very disappointed. The two leads were not a patch on the fantastic Gregory Peck and the icy cool of Lee Remick. All the disturbing atmosphere of the original was lost here, even the teriffic Mia Farrow failed to capture the evil nanny role, played shockingly superb by Billie Whitelaw in the original film. And as for the new Damien, he was more of a spoilt brat than actual satan spawn, again portrayed devilishley and believably well by the great Harvey Stevens! If you want to be really scared and you haven't seen the original, watch it alone, in the dark on a cold winters night. Believe me, then you will know true fear!Go on, I dare you.....

Better than I expected, 19 Jan 2008
I admit I nearly fainted when I heard they were remaking this classic film. There have been so many dire remakes in recent years, with the odd exception here and there. In any case, being a fan of the genre I decided to give it a go and keep an open mind.I was delighted that it was to be a Rob Zombie remake. I thought out of any director he ought to be the one to make it work. The first half of the film was superb. We get to see the child that grows into the malevolent monster that is Michael Myers. Not to give anything away but we really get to see what drives Michael to kill, from playground bullying to torture of small animals (animal lovers like myself will be pleased to know you don't actually see michael do this it is merely suggested). And his dysfunctional family life, particularly his repulsive step father, really contribute a great deal to the fragile mind of the young michael. Rob Zombie throws in snippetts of irony here and there, for instance the child michael wearing the halloween mask, and occasional gestures to the original which really add to the chilling atmosphere. Sheri Moon is cool as ever playing Michaels Mother. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the second half. Screaming bordering on the annoying towards the end, and the Zombie ending is nowhere near as effective as the Carpenter ending. Having said that, Rob Zombie clearly wanted to put his own stamp on the film and overall, I enjoyed it. This is one you have to watch and make up your own mind. Many will love it, many won't.

Different......?!, 9 Jan 2008
I have to say I have mixed opinions about this film. It certainly isn't your average vampire movie. The entire look and feel of the film is quite disturbing, dark and creepy which is what I actually loved about it.It certainly wasn't as predictable as I expected either. Unfortunately, the cast were let down by a mediocre script. Josh Hartnett and Melissa George are solid enough, and do their best with what they were given, however, it seemed that the characters portrayed at times were just bored and wandering around looking for something to do.In other words it is probably a little slow for some peoples liking. Having said that,if you just watch the film and accept it for what it is-which is a little tongue in cheek at times, and less action than your standard modern day vampire film, you may feel as I did about it:dark, disturbing and somewhat riveted aswell.I personally enjoyed it,and thought the pro's outweighed the cons but it certainly will not be to everyones taste;particularly to those expecting a lot of action.
