1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 12 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book based on the reviews. It was not what I expected, Read it but will not be reading the follow up volumes. Poor story line, weak easily led characters, no reason given as to why the land is "sacred" or why the war is brewing. For a book written by a teacher of English the language used was disappointing. Too many universal words such as figured. It seems the author couldn't be bothered to use more informative descriptions as to how his characters arrived at their decisions. Maddening to lovers of the English language.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to Ms Martins usual standard by a long way, 1 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Have read many of Ms Martins books on the past and thoroughly enjoyed them. This one fell very short of my expectations. Thin story, poor vocabulary. Nearly every decision, thought , idea, problem, difficulty was substituted by the words Figure or figured . The characters not really believable,Too many contradictions on the difficulties faced by the list of characters. Not a good read. I did persevere to the end but won't be buying the sequels

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap construction, 29 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Certainly one of those products given an unrealistically high price to make it seem like a fantastic bargain. Does the job but the construction is flimsy. The cloths supplied don't fit any of the heads. The handle bends when mopping floors and carpets and having to remove the tank to fill it is impractical. It will probably last until the warranty runs out if lucky.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very much the same as the others, 8 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is an identical copy of the others in the series. Ms Harrison really has not had to do much thinking as it seems like a paste and copy exercise with just a change of scene and characters. At least half of all chapters refer to how likeable, loveable, frustrating the two main characters are. The remainder is taken up by story lines and sexual encounters of the superhuman kind. Not one to get lost in as you know exactly what will be coming next. Gave up after ploughing my way through half of it. Its basically soft porn served up in surburbia with a little science fiction thrown in.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read as with the previous two, 4 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I found all the books in the series enjoyable with a few jarring exceptions in the use of words. Perhaps the D'akaran could have been a little more fully explained along with their reasons for acting as they did and why they wanted to take over the world. The characters of the humans, wizards, and malthropes were well written. The word effect was used many times when it should have been affect. There were more doves flying round than in a medieval castles dovecote. Things don't "dove" to the side or away from something, dive or dived away are the correct words to use. The occassional missed word makes nonsense of a sentence. On the plus side we were not treated to many "gottens" instead of got and no nerve jangling awesomes.

All in all these books are an enjoyable read in which to lose yourself for a few hours. I would like to keep Myn for myself along with the mystival staff of the wizard.
