Haying With Horses
Haying With Horses
by L. R. Miller
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars A thorough study of the subject, 21 Oct 2012
This review is from: Haying With Horses (Paperback)
Lyn Miller is the founder and editor of the Small Farmers Journal, a radical and informative US based magazine designed to promote the sustainable use of horses in farming.
He has readers and contributions from all over the world. He farms and works with heavy horses and has drawn on the experience of an increasing number of horse farmers from North America. Many of these but by no means all are from the Amish and Mennonite communities where this way of farming has survived. In North America a healthy number of people are still using using work horses and making horse drawn equipment. This contrasts with the UK where few people use horses for everyday farm work.

From this background Lyn has written a series of books designed to instruct ,review and record all aspects of farming with horses. The book is excellent and it makes one wish to go and get on with the hay making.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare breeds by the expert, 12 Aug 2011
Lawrence Alderson was in at the beginning of the Rare Breed Survival Trust and for nearly 40 years he has been a leading, if not the leadsing light. His book is informativeand still highly pertinent to todays conditions and just as valid as when it was written.
I read and inwardly digested this book as a teenager and now as a veterinary surgeon of 28 years experience and a cattle and poultry breeder with a lifelong interest in rare breeds and their conservation I still find it a useful reference. It is a must for all who would get involved in breeding livestock in a responsible way and a very good place to start to learn about rare breeds.
It is well enough written to make it easy to reads but detailed enough to be very useful to breeders and conservationists alike.

Training Work Horses Training Teamsters

Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Training workhorses training teamsters, 3 Jan 2010
Although this is a long book it is very thorough and both my brother and i have found it invaluable.
It is obviously aimed at the American Market but it has an international relevance . It is the next best thing to having someone standing by you.
My brother has his own Percheron mare and has read both this book and it companion book the work horse Manual.
I am a veterinarian and have found this book useful in a more general way.
It would be my first choice in the future when i do more with Draft horses
