Mia W is a bit wooden, but Michael Fassbender makes up for it. Jamie Bell is pretty good too. A new take on an old tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book - can't praise it enough, 19 Jan 2014

This is such a clear, step by step guide to making a pair of socks. No fanciness, just plain language and lots of photographs. Ann Budd is a legend, and I haven't stopped knitting socks since I first knitted some with the aid of this book.

This was a set book for one of my Open University courses. An invaluable reference piece for a student, but also for anybody interested in where Christianity sits in general history.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my favourite sock book, but it's ok, 19 Jan 2014

This book didn't totally live up to my expectations. The designs weren't all that inspiring, but still a nice book to leaf through and a nice addition to my sock-knitting book collection.

This is a great book. I love Interweave's clear, creative designs, so I knew I'd be onto a winner with this book. Lots of lovely sock designs, top-down, but using both DPNs and circulars, trying out different heels and toes. Might be a bit advanced for a beginner, but lots of sock porn for the initiated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent moving-on book for sock knitting enthusiasts, 5 Jan 2012
Having already purchased Ann Budd's book for sock knitting for beginners, I eagerly awaited the arrival of this book. It did not disappoint and I highly recommend it for anybody who is ready to move on from basic socks to something more adventurous. It includes the basics, of course, as a reminder, but also includes information on top down and toe-up knitting, various advanced techniques, different heels, and a nice selection of projects to try out new-found skills. It's a lovely book even if you just want to pick it up and browse, but Ann Budd is so inspiring. I haven't looked at the accompanying DVD but I'm sure it'll be as clear as any YouTube video you can come across.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely !, 14 Oct 2011
I'm already a big Martin Storey and Rowan fan, so was expecting big things of this book, and it lived up to all my expectations. A nice variety of projects to keep avid knitters entertained. Probably not for the beginner. A lovely waistcoat pattern, several pairs of legwarmers, hats, socks and so on, using Rowan's lovely Felted Tweed yarn. Even if you don't knit anything from it, it's a nice book to repeatedly browse through.

5.0 out of 5 stars addictive, 14 Oct 2011
This was my first delve into the work of this author, and I was not disappointed. I read the kindle edition, but didn't spot any typing errors. Maybe they've been corrected, or maybe I was reading too fast to notice ! I found the number of characters a bit long to immediately get to grips with, and it wasn't until I got to the end of the book that I realised there was a nice, organised listing of who was who, etc. One of the downsides of the kindle scenario. Oh well - doh ! It certainly won't put me off reading the following editions, of which I've already purchased several....

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, 23 Aug 2011
I love this book. A vast array of stuff to knit, not just socks, out of all that lovely sock wool stash I have. Hats and caps, gloves and cuffs, scarves and shawls, clothes for kids and dolls, bags and purses and other 'decorative wearables'. A good book to get ideas for little presents. There's a lovely pattern for lacy summer footlets (fancy trainer socks) ! I do like Motorcycle Mama's Neckwarmer, which is basically a polo neck jumper without the jumper bit.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG !!!, 23 Aug 2011
What a treat this book is. It basically gives you a huge selection of his designs, knitted up, and at the back you get the accompanying charts if you want to have a go. There are no suggestions as to colourways, etc, you're left on your own in that regard. But it does serve as an inspiration to those knitters brave enough to have a go themselves at a design from scratch. A brilliant coffee table book, even if you're never going to do colour work yourself.
