I don't often write reviews, usually only if I'm pleasantly surprised or utterly disapponted by something I've purchased from Amazon.

Unfortunately, this case falls into the latter catagory.

Cute cover, sexy title.

However, the book itself does very little to discuss the subject of humanity's next techno-enhanced incarnation, its effects upon society and the ethical problems such a sea-change would bring. Which is a pity.

What it does do, at great and witheringly detailed length, is provide a history of sociology's past and present, which is I suppose, useful, and make rather incoherrent arguements concerning science and Abrahamic religion, which, at least in my opinion, is not.

There are better books if you want to read about evolution vs. intelligent design, and better books if you want to read about a possible reapproachment of science by theism.

Not very good. Sorry.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bloody Terrible, 22 Feb 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A fan of Japanese films and Manga in general, I bought this film a month or two ago. High hopes dashed I'm afraid. The director's attempted to stitch a film together around a couple of set piece scenes and ideas and failed miserably. The characters are unengaging, the effects not much beyond attaching hoses filled with red water to everything in sight and the plot, er... the plot... Nope, didn't find one.

Buy it if it becomes immensely cheap, watch it once and then give it away to someone you don't like very much.

This review is from: The Raw Shark Texts (Paperback)
A friend on another site suggested my buying the Rawshark Texts - and I was so glad I did. Building from an admittedly rather hackneyed beginning to a wonderful crescendo of clashing stereotypes, film culture references and just plain crazy it leaves you with a satisfying sense of "wouldn't it be great if life were really like this."

Sorry, that didn't sound so much like a recommendation. :)

Seriously, this book was literally the best I've read in a couple of years, and I read a hell of a lot of books. Order it, sit near the door trembling with apprehension waiting for it to slide through the slot, tear the wrapper off with your teeth and then lock yourself in the bathroom with it and a jug of hot coffee. Do not emerge until it has been read.

Really.

Then, after a shower and some hot food, get on the telephone to whichever movie company made "Fight Club" and start lobbying them to make a film.
