Great American songbook, 15 April 2011
For those who remember the good old days when singers needed to have talent (Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, Sarah Vaughan et al) and lyricists had poetry in their soul (Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, Mercer et al), this compilation is a must. Very reasonably priced for so much pleasure and nostalgia. There are one or two horrors, though, e.g. Doris Day (is it really her?) singing Hernando's Hideaway, and the appearance of Shirley Bassey (don't associate her with the greatest American songs). You must buy, 100 great songs at such a great price for 5 CDs.
