3.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad for the price, 16 Jun. 2016

Not too bad for the price. Nice quick rope due to the bearings. However, handles feel cheap and the plastic attachment to the bearings feels like it could snap with a landing on the rope. Also if you miss jump the rope can slide through the eyelets making re-starting more frustrating that it needs to be. However.. for the price I really can't complain too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing pictures for the price, 12 April 2010
I just bought this lens for a friends wedding to take some nice portrait shots. It was a bit of an impulse buy as I bought it the day before the wedding so had no time to practice with it, and as this was my first prime lens I didn't want to splash out too much. Wow. I am so glad I got this lens. The pictures turned out beautifully. The f/1.8 worked brilliantly in the low light conditions at the reception and it remained very fast so there was no motion blur in the portraits; nor in the smoke from the cigars they were smoking!

Some of the other reviews have said about there being too much "Bokeh" ( the nice blur of the photograph out of the main area of focus ) and I disagree, I think there is a pleasing level of it and it makes for some lovely effects, but this is subjective.

I do agree with another reviewer about it feeling plasticky, but it doesn't feel flimsy, but I wouldn't treat it any less carefully than any other lens because of it.

Since purchasing this lens it hasn't been off the camera and I think I will have a great time learning the ins and outs of prime lens photography.

For reference it's fitted to my Sony Alpha 300.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very informative, 2 Dec. 2009
I used this book to attempt to get a better understanding of Javascript and it served this purpose remarkably well. I am a professional programmer by trade so I already know design patterns very well having studied the infamous "Gang of Four" book. This meant that I could look at each design pattern and see how it was implemented compared to other languages I know and see how they differed and how they were similar which was quite an interesting way of learning.

The book does however feature a very detailed look into how to write good Javascript in the first few chapters which was very useful. What it doesn't cover is things such as basic control structures, data types etc which you'd find with a more beginners book.

The writers do a very good job of explaining each design pattern and the pro's and con's of each, when you'd use it and then how to implement it. They take a very terse dry subject and make it very readable. However this is by no means a comprehensive list of all the design patterns there are. It has the basics and that's it, but by the end of it you'll be competent enough to figure out the others by yourself.

This along with Douglas Crockford's "Javascript the good parts" will keep you in good stead with any Javascript project.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a game!!, 2 Dec. 2009
Amazing, its the only way to describe it. It was a rollercoaster ride of a game, very fast paced and left me stunned in places (not the "shocking" level that's causing so much controversy) just from the story. It is a great story, with lots of twists and turns, however it is a little short, I finished it in about 8 hours, but there is so much to find in it and other levels of difficulty will keep me coming back for more. As with it's predecessor a large portion of it's gameplay is multiplayer based as well, and this is no exception. Online play is incredible, so intense and fast paced it will keep you hooked for a long long time to come.

Graphically this game is stunning, no complaints here.
Controls are brilliant, they have tuned these to perfection, very responsive unlike something sluggish like FarCry2.
Multiplayer has xbox live options with many different game types, 2 person offline has "Special Ops" which are missions outside of the story where you have specific objectives. There is also LAN play options if you want to hook up a few xboxes and tv's and play with friends.
I will warn people though that this really isn't a game for minors, there are some shocking scenes, but then it is an 18 and they shouldn't be playing it anyway!

As has already been said, if you have a 360 you really should own this game.

It's an extension reel. It's a cable that comes out of a reel, plugs into a socket so you can have 2 sockets further away from said other socket. It does this job marvelously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly Distilled Knowledge, 2 Dec. 2009
This book is amazing, it takes a vast subject area and condenses it down into a very small, perfectly readable format. It is basically a walkthrough of all the things you should be doing in your code and why. The fact that it's in smalltalk makes it a little more difficult to understand, but it's worth the effort to learn it, although the messages are easily understood without.
If you're a professional programmer you really should own this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy People doing Crazy Things!, 2 Dec. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Why and indeed how would you ever think it to be a good idea to stick your hand into an underwater hole and wait for something to chew on it? Well that's what this film is about. Crazy!
It's a documentary following the exploits of some of the people that still practice this form of fishing (now banned in all but 4 states in America) and in the run up to the first ever tournament. It shows how they go about doing it and why they got into it and it show some absolutely huge fish!

Very entertaining watching! But beware it's a Region 1 disc so won't play on all UK players as we're Region 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant, 2 Dec. 2009
My first entry into the DSLR market and the choices at my price point were the Nikon D60, Cannon EOS 1000D or this, and I'm very glad I went with this one.

First impressions are good, it has a nice sturdy feel to it, not quite as good a build quality as the D60, but much better than the Cannon. But it's a great size and not too heavy.
Feature wise it had everything that I wanted for an entry level DSLR and the image quality is fantastic, even in low lighting situations, although obviously noise will creep in with the higher ISO settings. 10.2 MP is perfect as well, it will look great printed out on to about A4 size paper, and the shots look fantastic on computer screen.
AutoFocus is nice and fast, not too noisy, and the live view is great, especially with the tilting screen (helps in sunny situations). I've taken thousands of pictures with it now and can't complain at all.

Picture quality is fantastic too, DP review did a lot of tests of the pictures against the cameras above and this edged it in all but the highest iso settings, but in these modes none of the cameras did particularly well, you need a much more expensive camera for this.

Conclusion:

For an entry level DSLR I would thoroughly recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Make sure you get the right device!, 26 Nov. 2009
I purchased this in error, expecting a business class wireless access point that was standalone. This is *not*. It requires an additional Smart Router from Netgear which is very expensive! Obviously this was my own fault and in no way do I blame Netgear, I just hope I can warn others off making the same mistake!

On the upside it's a fantastically constructed piece of kit, very solid feeling and looks like it would do the job well. Unfortunately not having the smart router I couldn't test it properly.
