A beautiful book about, at least to me, a little known artist, often in the shadow of Augustus John. Lovely colour reproductions of his total oeuvre plus illuminating text.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Brittany, 22 Jun 2013

I bought this lovely book as a surprise birthday present for my husband before a holiday in Brittany. Beautiful watercolours by contemporary French artists are each accompanied by just enough French text for anyone learning French to test their translation skills without overload (and the descriptions do enhance the paintings). So it's also a French revision guide! However, even if you don't speak any French, just buy the book and enjoy the lovely artwork.

If you love Brittany and love watercolours then treat yourself to this delightful book.

I bought this boxed DVD set for a film I love - A kid for two farthings. One of my favourite films from the 1950s. Haven't yet watched the other films but am looking forward to doing so. What a wonderful actress Diana Dors was.

A quirky book, full of captivating and humorous watercolours. An enclosed, privileged world is depicted but with what charm. A book to lift the spirits and bring a smile to your face.

An utterly delightful and charming book for any art lover or Francophile. Just stumbled across it whilst browsing for watercolour books on Amazon. The beautiful watercolours are complemented by evocative and poetic text. Have already bought a second copy for a friend's birthday. Wish there were more people I could buy it for!

This review is from: The Art of Travel (Paperback)
Alain de Botton never disappoints. His writing is always light as a feather, always amusing and always profound, and The art of travel is no exception. Philosophy for everyman (and woman). Buy, read, then enjoy this book - you really will.
