2.0 out of 5 stars Will we ever know..., 6 Nov 2013
"The Real Truth....." but only as the author sees it; and that does not make her opinion a factual account of Anne Boleyn's life and times. As the author says, often, we may never know etc etc.

The book is quite simply a collection of blogposts from her website, and quotes from other, more academic, reasoning books by, e.g. Eric Ives and Alison Weir.

One more thing. An awful lot of print is dedicated to tearing apart a work of historical fiction, The Other Boleyn Girl" by Phillipa Gregory. That there are questionable actions in the story is well known...but surely to spend forever repeating "it's not so" followed by "!!!!!!!!" lends "The Real Truth" an air of footstamping tirade.

I obtained this book through Kindle for free. Had I paid £8 for it, I, too, would have had a footstamping tirade-but not about Phillipa Gregory!

Stunning.....

.......although......I wish there had been more of the history of York Minster. But, for the goldwork thereof? Stunning! Truly beautiful.

Embroidery Basics: A Needle Knowledge Book
Embroidery Basics: A Needle Knowledge Book
by Cheryl Fall
Edition: Paperback
Price: 11.92

4.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive book for beginners..., 14 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
In 106 pages, colour throughout, Cheryl Fall packs how-to-stitch, patterns, glossary of terms, descriptions of diverse threads, manufacturer conversion chart....even how to mount and frame your work!

She also gives masters on drawn thread work, blackwork, redwork, applique, cross-stitch...but, thankfully, embroidery occupies most of the book! No-one could possibly leave this ideal manual alone, it whets your appetite to try something different!

I marked 4 stars....that may be slightly disingenuous of me. I wanted more!

For anyone facing that 'white page' moment, when ideas have dried up, I'd recommend this gem. For a quick refresher of stitches...this book satisfies. Most of all, beginners will LOVE it.

Love it! I would suggest using shorter length of gold thread than you would the cotton, and a little knot to tie it to the needle, once threaded!

I will certainly buy more of this thread...and from the same supplier as delivery was prompt.

Impex beeswax certainly helped my stitching, particularly with cheaper floss. And some metallic threads. What's more, it washes out beautifully...no dullness in the lighter colours, just ease of stitching. And longevity of the thread.

Six Wives: The Queens of Henry VIII
Six Wives: The Queens of Henry VIII
by Dr David Starkey
Edition: Paperback
Price: 10.49

5.0 out of 5 stars Enthralling, 23 April 2013
David Starkey's "Six Wives the Queens of Henry VIII" is an essential book in your Tudor bookcase. David Starkey lays out his interpretation of events, letters, court gossip and general whereabouts of those involved in Henrys' shenanigans, on the page with his customary sharp wit and the occasional barbed comment!

His book presents you with a fluid, captivating read and you come away from it questioning your previous assumptions, and the support you may have had for one and not another person.

"Six Wives" is one of those "go to" books for any queries you may have on the women who had the misfortune, on the matrimonial and religious fronts, to share living space with this insecure king.

Enjoy, time and time again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunningly beautiful, 6 Jan 2013
A small, but thoroughly entrancing, book. It has found a place in whichever bag I use, and in my heart.
How I'd love to see the originals but, as that is highly unlikely, I'll continue to enjoy the splendid feast of inspirational illuminations....just as the originals had their owners, throughout the centuries.
