5.0 out of 5 stars A excellent guide to this complex topic, 6 Jun 2006
Toby Murcott is that unusual combination of both scientist and readable author which makes this book both illuminating and accessible. He does not set out to definitively rule on specific alternative treatments but rather he explains why it is hard to do this. How can you run, for example, a double blind trial on massage or acupuncture? He also explores ways in which treatments can be assessed and challenges both the alternative and mainstream professions to take this assessment seriously.

If you are objectively interested in alternative medicine you should read this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sadly this book addresses none of the issues., 6 Jun 2006
This is an extraordinary book. It is a classic example of the worst tabloid journalism. Start with a view and then string together partial facts, sweeping generalisations, misleading use of statistics and conclude the answer you want.

There are very important questions to be answered about the use of consultants within the public sector but sadly this book addresses none of them.

I enjoyed reading the book but because it is funny not informative.
