5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Introduction to Tony Benn and his politics., 26 Dec 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having seen Tony Benn in conversation and with the wonderful folk singer Roy Baily I am slowly reading my way through his back catalog of publications.
I am even and more convinced this man is right and even ahead of his time.
The advice to his grand children and those who read this book is sane, inspiring, encouraging and may even improve/save our society. Here Tony Benn suggests we accept all creeds, nationalities and those with different sexuality with open arms, he tells us why.
He writes of his personal faith, which is not attached to the established church. His commitment to animal welfare through anti vivisection stance is explained here. He is also a vegetarian and explains how this simple act by each person could help provide food for the poorer countries through more grain being available.
He believes the Internet has opened up the world and is a powerful political tool that can effect change for the good.
The book is a wonderful read for those interested in changing society and our world for the better, who need a boost.

5.0 out of 5 stars David Essex in the 1970s, 14 Oct 2011

Two great albums on one CD from a great singer.

Davids second album released in 1974 on the lead up to the "Stardust" movie was a smash hit album with both the album and "Gonna Make You A Star" number one in the album and single charts. This is as he said at the time "Things Went Crazy" and his life reflected the film "Stardust" but he came through it being the man he is. The album was produced by Jeff Wayne who produced his early albums at that time and the sound is very clear and well mixed. These are very fine songs all written by David and are diverse in their style. My favourite is "Good old Rock 'n' Roll a fantastic number and very creative. Also the haunting "Window" and wonderful "America".

The second album is much more experimental and full of theatre. The "Run with the Pack" track is a strong driving rock number that really takes off and is really a heavy rock number. There is also the hit single "Coming Home" which was a chart hit at the time (1976). Also the hit "City Lights", which he still sings in concerts today as it is such a great number. This is not a commercial album but once you listen to it you realise David Essex is a great writer and very imaginative. Again, the songs are diverse including "Just Wanna Dance" very soulful. Very good value for David Essex fans. Great music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you Allen Carr I am Free!, 22 Sep 2011
A fantastic method to finally beat the smoking habit. Once read you will no longer need to smoke. Read the book follow the instructions from this self confessed 100 a day smoker who finally walked away from this legal drug addiction.
Who wants to give up - step forward buy this book. Previous to this I tried and tried, gum, patches, the whole lot and nothing helped me to stop permanently.
However this can with your desire to do so and you too can walk away from this terrible habit that destroys the quality of your life.
What happens is you realize there is nothing to give up only slavery and you simply walk towards the benefits of being a non smoker after extinguishing your last cigarette. The powers that be should have given Allen Carr formal recognition for his great work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Christian Resource, 12 Sep 2011

I often watch Richard lead the "Book By Book" bible study programs on Christian T.V.

He comes across as genuine, committed and convinced by the Christian faith.

I am full of respect for the faith he propagates and the Christian life he has lead. He makes being a Christian an exciting journey and the bible come alive.

I was looking for one of his books as a Christian resource. I found it in Richards wonderful devotional, which is full of insight. For example his statement that everything starts with Jesus and finishes with Jesus had an incredible affect on my thinking. It kind of gave me something to hold onto, to come back to and made great sense to me. The book is full of such insights, always bible linked.

He is an intelligent and thoughtful man who finds the bible exciting to study and his book enhances this experience. Thank you Richard.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Straight Modern Jazz C.D., 10 Sep 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An energetic recording where Oscar Peterson teams up with younger musicians late in his career.
Opens with "Tin Tin Deo" lovely trumpet from Roy Hargrove and Ralph More on tenor sax through this terrific jazz C.D.
Something for all Jazz fans including the classics "My Foolish Heart" and "Just Friends"
As you listen to the C.D. Oscar gives the other musicians space to improvise the numbers and what comes over is an equal tight sounding jazz outfit.
This is music they play in Jazz clubs across the U.K. and I guess the U.S.A.
if you are a fan of modern jazz then i think you will really enjoy this C.D.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Resource, 4 Sep 2011
The wonderful thing about this book is it is great motivator to meditate. When you read through the scientific data and personal testimonies contained in the book one simply wants to meditate.

The book tells us that this simple non religious but spiritual technique is a practical tool that any one can use for the betterment of their daily life. This is what comes over in the book time and time again from people from various walks of life.

The chapters discuss aspects of each persons life that can be improved by simply diving within themselves. Almost like taking a break or holiday where true relaxation and peace comes upon you.

Its a very positive resource for those who want to improve their lives through meditation.

Remember: "As you spontaneously meditate you began to understand the religion of your birth" Maharishi.

I would add when I learnt T.M. I was charged on a sliding scale measured against my income at the time. The teacher allowed me to pay in installments, which was helpful to me. What I did pay when I look back was worth twice the amount, I certainly did not pay thousdands of pounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Great Albums From James Taylor, 3 Sep 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Jame Taylor just makes you feel good as soon as you put one of his albums on the deck or put on a C.D. or press the Mp3 button.

Dad Loves His Work
Great CD opens with "Hard Times" lovely harmonies from James and his group."Her Town Too" a beautiful Ballad.
My favorite track being "I will follow" which he still sings in concerts today together with "That Lonesome Road".
The original album recorded in 1981 stands up well as you listen to it in 2011.
It is a very smooth album but has depth and meaning plus he is a beautiful singer.
I would consider this the best of the three albums - I can't stop playing it!

Never Die Young
Opens with "Never Die Young" his voice not diminished in any way (recorded in 1988). A song about striving, looking forward and being life affirming in the face of adversity.
The "T.Bone track moves along with a variety of instruments showing James's music evolves.
All of the songs are beautifully arranged with use of sax in subtle way. "Valentine Day" is wonderful ballad played on piano and violin. "Sun and Moon" nice use of harmonies. A really nice album to listen too late at night.

That's Why I Am Here
Great title track from the album with James writing a great opening tune, very catchy. "Song for you far away" beautiful ballad, nice acoustic number. "Turn Away" faced paced works well as does the whole recording, which is tight and clear sounding.
There is also a cover version of "Everyday" (Buddy Holly) given the James Taylor treatment with success. He sings the classic "My Romance" using an electric piano, which instantly becomes a James Taylor song. Recorded in 1985

Great value for James Taylor fans conveniently packaged.

This review is from: BeBop The Future (Audio CD)
A terrific album containing creative and diverse tracks. Ranging from numbers penned from the great man himself to a wonderful electronic cover of "Be Bop a Lula".
Very strong song writing here from David such as the "Magician" and the "Politician" both great numbers.
"Sunshine Girl" has Beachoys feel to the number and would not be out of place on one of their albums. "Silly Little Baby Running" has great drum beat, which David Plays himself harking back to his inital drumming days with the China Plates in the Eastend of London.
I must say the CD has not aged at all from the days of when I brought the LP. If you are a fan of Davids Music then you won't be disappointed.
Great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars A priceless resource, 27 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A well written realistic book on becoming a non drinker by a person who was caught in the alcohol trap.

Jason explodes the myths that surrounds alcohol throughout the chapters. He writes with passion on a subject he feels strongly about and wants to change society's view of this devastating legal drug fostered on us by the alcohol industry. He dismantles the brain washing in chapter after chapter.

He takes the reader through the process of quitting alcohol for good showing us that in effect there is nothing to give up only slavery much the same as smoking.

By the end of the book you cannot wait to become a non drinker and embrace the benefits of a life of not being stuck with drinking for the rest of ones life.

The book shows you how to beat "Supermarket Smack" as one of my clients calls alcohol in 2011.

When you think about it the issue of alcohol has such a major impact in society on all levels. This fantastic book Jason has written can only contribute to helping people break free - I cannot praise this book enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bob Dylan (Christian period 1981), 16 July 2011
This review is from: Shot Of Love (Audio CD)
What a great album from Dylan. Raw and urgent. Contains the sublime "Every Grain of Sand" telling us with his struggles with faith. A tribute song to Lenny Bruce and the wonderful "Property of Jesus". You can tell by the way he sings these songs his faith is/was genuine and he had gone through a transformation. The C.D. sounds just as good as it did when I brought the album back in 1981.When he sings the title track "Shot of Love" he sounds that is just what he needs. The backing singers also work very well by complementing Bob's voice.I like the way the album was recorded with a sense of capturing the moment without any frills just straight rock music. If you are a fan of Bob Dylan then this is great addition to your collection.
