4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome trips, 21 Aug 2013

Lawrence always seems to take on some challenges in his motorcycle adventures and it was great to see Gareth along with him again. Some particularly interesting facts and tales of Russia and an awesome encounter with the bikies of Russia. What a great bunch. The author expresses the friendships made and people met along the way very well and it is another enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant!, 7 Aug 2013

This is a brilliant read and I was in stiches at times! As a motorcyclist I am biased to some extent but the accounts told here are just so real and the cameraderie and laughs to be had on trips like these are brilliantly recounted. Fergus was always a great laugh, having read his articles over the years, and he will be sadly missed indeed. This is another adventure book that has just made me urge to get out there again and experience the same humour and kinship motorcyclists have. Thanks for the many laughs Fergus and rest in peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible account of a tragedy, 7 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book was excellent. The author brilliantly described and portrayed the disaster from his own viewpoint and the thoughts and emotions he must have encountered at the time were well written. The everlasting torment of the tragedy was perfectly described and it was an emotional and trying read in some parts but well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tale of a great adventure!, 7 Aug 2013

First of all I have to admit to being biased in that motorcycle travels have been a great love of mine. Lawrence recounts his tale perfectly through a diary written at the time and it shows the personal trials he went through at the time. With an 8 year old of my own I can only hope that we may embark ona similar adventure one day and this book has helped to show anything is possible. The book is a great blend of motorcycle related issues and the responsibility of parenting together and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My admiration for the pair of them is extremely high and I can only wonder what Africa was like at the time and also whether a similar route taken in this time would be possible or advised! Well done to you both and thanks for the inspiration!

Wonderful and thrilling storyline, well written. I adore epic struggles recounting the history of Britain's wars and this is a very good example. Good storyline, depicting the harshness and cruelty of the times whilst also showing the bravery and honour of our warriors, whether voluntary or not!

What a revealing and interesting account of the famous institution. Informed me of so much new information and the history of mental health and criminality in this country was opened to me. Great insight into the lives of the pioneering doctors aswell as the patients.

4.0 out of 5 stars Harrowing account of the time, 3 May 2013

Interesting account of the little known tales of British prisoners of the concentration camps. Described well and brought to life the extreme conditions and brutality of the nazi regime. I was amazed to find any of them survived and this book was an emotional and excellent read

3.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable story, 3 May 2013

I found the book contained some excellent references to life as a POW under the Japanese. I was not sure however of the author's glowing respect for the Japanese considering the experiences he and his mates went through. I also found the book depicted the Australian soldiers as much more efficient and brave than the English and other forces and found this to be detracting from the overall mood of the book. Otherwise a reasonably interesting account of his exploits.
