5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best, 7 Jan 2013

These are the best felt tip pens I have ever coloured in with. Long lasting, strong ink coverage, nice chunky tips. A good investment as they outlast so many cheaper imitations.

3.0 out of 5 stars Semi-enchanted, 7 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The original E Nesbit novel is one of my childhood favourites - a magical tale of wishes, mysterious rings, statues coming to life and secret passages. I was delighted to find it adapted for younger readers in the Usborne series but didn't ultimately feel that it completely worked in its abridged form. Some sequences - the Ugli Wuglies, for instance - were well portrayed but others rather lost their magic in the retelling and some of my favourites (such as the headless ghost at midnight) were missing entirely.

Overall, it works as a basic introduction to a treasured classic but just doesn't quite capture the enchantment of the original.

Tiger Double Wooden Agogo Block

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice sound but a bit precarious, 31 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The instrument is nicely made and has a good tone. My only gripe is that the centre stick doesn't fix securely in place and so the wood block is liable to fly off if played vigorously. A blob of glue has fixed it but now of course it doesn't fit back in its storage box...

5.0 out of 5 stars Say cheese, 31 Dec 2012

This review is from: Awkward Family Photos (Paperback)
This book is, as its title suggests, a miscellany of the bad, the bizarre and the ugly of family photos (mostly from he US.) From unfortunately positioned pets to crazed expressions, from surreal theming to pained poses, this is an utterly hilarious read and one to share with friends or family who like a giggle. I haven't laughed so much at a book in years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets boys drawing, 30 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The Doodle books are a great series. Each page has a suggestion and a tempting wee illustration to gt you started and inspire you to fill the rest of the page with your own art.

This particular book brilliantly addresses the problem of getting boys to sit down and draw: actively encourage them to produce the sorts of pictures that grownups would ordinarily label a bit rude or disgusting. Nothing too shocking but expect plenty of bogies, burps and bugs to be incorporated in the artwork.

The book is well put together, the paper decent quality and the ideas quirky. Enjoy!

Nice instrument - robust to use and the wood colour is attractive. The whirr is relatively short but loud. Adds some new sounds to the percussion deck.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice but mini, 13 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These are quality maracas with a good sound and an ethical provenance. They arrived very quickly after ordering and in perfect condition. The only problem is their size - they are very small and would be more suited to use by children than by adults, particularly if you plan on using them with a band or orchestra. I bought two sets and can hold all four maracas in one hand at once, which is not quite the experience I was expecting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quo to go, 13 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A great CD compilation of the Quo's biggest hits, for a very decent price. One to sing along to in the car or as a nice way to introduce kids to the joys of rockin' all over the world. I defy you not to get the air guitar out at least once.

This review is from: Spinning Plate - Set of 3 (Toy)
These are a perfect gift for a child (or adult) wanting to show off some basic circus tricks in front of friends or relatives. With pretty minimal practice, you can have a couple of plates spinning in no time, and the practising is fun too. The plates are sturdy, brightly coloured and turned up bang on time after ordering. Very happy with this set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stellar Superstar, 26 Sep 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I should disclose from the start that Jesus Christ Superstar has always been my favourite musical. I have seen many productions over the years and usually find something to love about each. This particular production, though, had a beauty and an impact for me that was quite exceptional and it will be a joy to be able to watch it again on DVD.

I saw the show in Glasgow on its tour around the UK rather than at the O2 and there were none of the sound / mic problems reported from the London shows - perhaps the smaller scale of the regional venues helped to control the sound more effectively or perhaps the technical teething problems had simply been resolved. The modernisation of the setting and design may not appeal to those who like their apostles in robes and sandals but it created an immediacy and a tension all of its own and some of the images created on the stage (and on the screen behind) were quite stunning. The portrayals of the Crucifixion and Judas's death in particular had a savage beauty quite unlike any I had seen in previous productions.

The incorporation of some sensational lighting effects and the newsreel / cinematic links on the screen also helped to create a truly multi-dimensional quality to the production. This, together with a top-whack band and the clever direction gave the show terrific pace and energy.

There has been much press coverage of the casting for this show but I found all of the performances strong, compelling and emotionally authentic. The lead trio of Judas, Mary and Jesus (Tim Minchin, Melanie C and Ben Forster) were particularly impressive and each in turn moved me to tears.

Highly recommended.
