plik, plik, plik, flash, flash, flash. And repeat, for ages.

That's how fast and long this flash power-up works. Turns speedlight into pretty reasonable strobe.

The distributors are pretty good, too. Helped me out with some initial cable delivery problem

1.0 out of 5 stars Hot News: Manufacturer will give you this for free!, 10 Dec 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
doesn't fit the brabantia bin I bought it for even though the product literature clearly stated that it would. That's not the biggest thing though - it turns out that Brabantia is the greatest most fantastic company ever and they will replace broken catches, lids etc completely free of charge. Just go to the Brabantia website and get the goods you need. Forget about this thing - it's no good to you

4.0 out of 5 stars don't sell your Star Wars figures collection to buy it..., 10 Dec 2014

I read extensively about Canon 50mm primes before buying the 1.2 I already own the 1.4 and my 1.4 copy was not focusing properly after getting dropped, so I decided to upgrade when replacing.

My conclusion: Is the 1.2 better? Yes. It has better colour rendition and is slightly sharper at some middle apertures. Is it £900 (list prices) better? I would have to say no. Images are not that great (soft, fringing) at 1.2

If I'm honest, the 1.2 mainly wins out because it's the no-excuse model. By that I mean it costs the most, has the 'L' designation, looks the chunkiest best, and is the fastest (along with the 85) lens that Canon make. But the difference (over the 1.4) in performance is very very small

I would say only buy if your pockets are deep or someone is buying for you or you can write it off as a business expense.

5.0 out of 5 stars spotlight on 'Dancing in the Dark', 13 Oct 2005
This review is from: Dancing In The Dark (Hardcover)
In 'Dancing in the Dark' Caryl Phillips describes in novel form the life of the entertainer Bert Williams. If, like me, you had never heard of Williams, the story is a fascinating insight into the life of a successful black entertainer straddling the 19th and 20th centuries. If, also like me, you have read Phillips' other works you will recognise and enjoy his prose and touch. His technique, particularly the frequent changes of narrator and shuffling of sequence, is as effective in this, essentially a historical novel, as in his other, more contemporarily themed novels. I finished the book wishing I could have seen the Bert Williams 'Cakewalk' or experienced his peerless comic timing. Highly recommended, read this and Phillips' other novels in any order you wish.

5.0 out of 5 stars a beautiful read, 5 Nov 2004
This review is from: A Distant Shore (Hardcover)
On reading 'a distant shore' by Caryl Philips any inhabitant of England will instantly recognise the country he describes. The reader might also be ashamed, angry or sad. His characters, be they from middle England or from war-torn Africa, are created with great perception and gentleness. The result is a touching and surprisingly gripping work, one where the story is revealed at a perfect pace through the voices of his disparate narrators. His use of time-slicing, so over-used nowadays, is very effective. I would recommend this book to anybody who would like to shine a spotlight on multi-cultural Britain in the 21st century or, more indulgently, anyone who re-reads passages to enjoy rhythmic, sparing prose. I believe this is an important book of it's time.
