Hilarious and moving in equal measures: plus my favourite hymn. I never thought Holst had it in him. Buy it.

1.0 out of 5 stars A title to avoid, 16 Mar 2013

This review is from: The Childhood of Jesus (Hardcover)
This is a story that never achieves an explanation of itself or declares a purpose. The child of the title would have received a richly deserved negative conditioning experience in any family setting I am aware of. Instead, it is encouraged to exploit the goodwill shown it whilst pissing in the faces of those caring for it.
Ultimately, Coetzee seems to just get fed up with writing such tripe: maybe his publisher rang with a deadline. Unfortunately, not before his readers will have lost the wil to live, I fear.

Damn this is good. Have no doubts, you must read it. Slightly at variance with the film of the same title but both are true to the original concepts. I could write pages on it but that would stop you from getting on with reading it, so do it! No regrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Wonderful Children's Book From Jane Brocket., 3 Mar 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the third book in this series. To be honest I brought the first one as a gift for the grandchildren,(Two boys, aged 18 months and 5 years) as I have been following Jane's blog for years. My nursery school teacher daughter in law can't stop raving about these books. So now my grandchildren have the whole set.The photography is wonderful, Jane encourages the child to look at everyday objects in different ways, to see patterns, stripes, circles and spots everywhere they look. From the lines of Playmobile figures to wrought iron gates. If she just encourages one child to look at their surroundings, she will have done her job.
The one downside to this series is they are published by an American publisher, I have only found them on Amazon and no where else. They need to be in every school and library up and down the country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Hesitate, 14 April 2010
This review is from: Petzl Myo RXP Headlamp (Sports)
Whatever you need a hands free light source for, look no further. This little device has guided me home at night on exmoor, been used in an emergency as a surgical operating light and still enables me to read late at night in bed without disturbing SWMBO. I've had mine for 8yrs of VERY hard use, but still works as well as when it come out of it's box.
Would be cheap at twice the price, get one and you can be guaranteed that you would never regret it. Beats all comers IMHO Petzl Headlamp MYO RXP

Nigh on useless collection of photographs with totally inadequate or absent explanation. Waste of time and space. Avoid. Pity the star rating system does not have negative values, this deserves one.

Another beautiful, colourful inspiring book from this talented knitwear designer. The book itself is hard backed but spiral bound so is easy to use and to knit from. This book is full of colourful beaded knitting projects. They range from the easy, headbands, slippers, belts to the more challenging jacket, cushions and throws. Each project is photographed in beautiful detail. The patterns are easy to follow as are the techniques, which are described and photographed in detail.
If you haven't yet added beads or sequins to your knitting, why not, this book is for you.

The troubles using Starry night with Vista seem to be achieving solution.
The problems with Vista seem mostly related to graphics card drivers: update them, and all should be well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Historic Interest Only, 13 Jun 2001

A great pity really. I had the feeling that Burton would have made a good if slightly OTT and mature Hamlet, which he was, but the production is sadly let down by the perhaps inevitably TERRIBLE picture quality and framing. I know it was taken from a live performance, and at a time when technology was less advanced, but considering the quality that film could produce at the same time, this is antediluvian stuff. It was only possible to recognise any character when in extreme close - up (rare). Avoid unless for scholarly interest.
