5.0 out of 5 stars Mayra does it again..., 13 Feb 2010
This review is from: Storia, storia... (Audio CD)
I did a review on Mayra's first album Navega which I honestly thought would be really hard to equal. However Mayra's second album, though slightly different, is absolutely top notch. Her voice is so good I would listen to her singing the phone book but the choice of songs really enhances her wonderful vocals.

Give this a go, I can guarantee you won't be disappointed

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly one of the best albums I've ever bought!, 10 Mar 2008
This review is from: Navega (Audio CD)
I've now listened to Navega about 20 times and find it getting better with every listen. The songs are both simple and complex and Mayra's beautiful voice is one of the best I've ever heard.
I would have given this album 10 stars if they'd have let me. Buy this album!

Not Scorcese's very best work but it is a solid thriller and very well acted. I'm not usually a Nicholson fan but I loved him in this movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars A film on its own, 27 Sep 2007
This review is from: Pan's Labyrinth [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
One of the rare films that both entertain, excite and make you think. Its unlike anything else I've seen and I'm sure will become a classic. Can't understand the negative comments below... and by the way my 13 year old son loves the film too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Jane Austen, 27 Sep 2007
Its not a bad adaptation but why, oh, why do screenwriters think they can write a better story than the original author? very disappointing end.
The earlier one with Ciaron Hinds is far superior.

5.0 out of 5 stars Irish magic, 4 Jun 2007
A wonder-ful film and one of the best performances from a child actor that I have seen. There is magic in this film but it is the magic of the land, the sea and all of the beings who co-exist in the world that John Sayles has created.

An altogether unforgettable film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully acted, 18 Dec 2006
This is a wonderfully touching portait of a man, Hurt, who cannot grieve for his dead son and eventually ends up losing his marriage as well.

He writes travel books for people who hate travelling. For a while, after an accident, he goes back to the family home where his two dysfunctional brothers and sisters live cut off from the outside world.

Then he meets a dog trainer, Geena Davis who is both wonderfully whacky and vulnerable and a rocky romance begins. As this is a Kasdan film nothing is ever straight forward, like real life really.

Superbly acted by Hurt, Davis and Turner.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great film noir, 18 Dec 2006
This review is from: The Big Heat [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
It took a German director to produce this great American fim noir. It isn't surprising when you find out that Lang also directed 'M'a dark study of the hunt for a serial child killer (played by Peter Lorre!) before moving to Hollywood.

Although Glenn Ford is perfectly OK as the upstanding cop who vows vengeance after his wife is killed (look out for Brando's sister in a rare screen role) it is Lee Marvin and especially the great Gloria Grahame that provide the zing.

Dark and brutal this is what film noir is all about.
