4.0 out of 5 stars Fahey is good in this?, 10 Sep 2011
This review is from: Maniacts (DVD)
I used to dislike Mr Fahey to the point of perversion but in this movie he's won me over. It tells the tail of love in extremely strange surroundings. A secure unit for killers of a mental persuasion. Fahey plays Joe Spinelli, a man with psychopathic tendencies who is locked up in an asylum for the criminally insane run by a corrupt Matron Knull (Leslie Easterbrook) and her sadistic guards, such as Bull, under the unseeing eye of Dr. Denton Speck the institutions feckless governor. Beating and solitary are the norm. It is here that Joe meets Beth (Kellie Waymire) and love blooms between the two. Kelly has a philosophy for life, and death, that you only get caught if the wrong people are killed. To cut a long storyshore our two lovers manage to escape and live an idyllic life in the quiet of the country. The humour is dark and satisfying for the sight of Joe as Christ on the cross to Beths delusion that she is the long lost daughter of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. I had a good hour and a half with Maniacts and found it both touching and outrageous, but very tongue-in-cheek. Get it. You'll have a laugh.

1.0 out of 5 stars Drainicack, 1 July 2011
This review is from: Drainiac [2000] [DVD] (DVD)
I don't know what movie the reviewer who gave this 5 stars had seen but it can't have been Drainiac. Drainiac is a classic example of shoddy acting, SFX, direction and production. The one thing it has going for it is the end credits. At least then the torment stops.

4.0 out of 5 stars An overlooked gem, 29 Jun 2011
This review is from: Two Hands [DVD] [2007] (DVD)
When I first came across this one I was quite sceptical as to its credentials but on viewing it turned out to be a very good crime thriller with a splash of comedy and a hint of horror. Ledger is as good in Two Hands as he is in anything but there's a good supporting cast too, not least of which is Aussie stalwart Bryan Brown (Cocktail,F/X, Austrailia) who plays the evil villain and owner of $10,000 that Jimmy (Ledger) manages to loose. Jimmy must find the money or face the violent wrath of Pando(Brown). Kick back with some popcorn and enjoy this super little movie for what it is. An overlooked gem.

I fisrt saw this movie when I was about 10 years old and have seen it many times since. For fans of black on white horror it is a must. It tells the tail of a chap who works at a cemetery who find that if he puts a black pin in the burial plot map the owner of the plot dies. But if he puts a white pin in the map he gives life to the dead. Good stuff.
