5.0 out of 5 stars Bio identical hormones menopause PMS breast cancer, 10 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I highly recommend this book. Detailed information about diet, bio identical hormones including testosterone, pregnenolone, DHEA and estradiol and progesterone. Also covers supplements and discusses how to age healthily using hormones and lifestyle management.
Covers the discredited WHI study and discusses breast cancer and hormone use. Bio identical hormones are available in the UK and estradiol and progesterone available from the NHS.
A must for women of all ages who wish to educate themselves about P MS and menopause.

5.0 out of 5 stars Testosterone sexual libido and menopause, 7 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The revolutionary book about testostetone for women. Many women wonder why replacing estradiol and progesterone does not enhance libido. The answer is the third hormone testosterone. The author outlines the benefits to supplementing this hormone. I myself use testosterone and can vouch for the benefits of using it.
There are scare stories about women who use testosterone and this book de bunks the nonsense. Female health has never had priority after the fertile years but any woman wishing to take charge of her destiny should read this book and check Professor John Studd and she should draw her own conclusions.
My only gripe is the focus on implants rather than gel. Implants are difficult to obtain in the UK abd women often use gel designed for men in smaller doses.
However this confidence boosting naturally occurring hormone deserves its own book and the author is a doctor I would consult if I lived in the states.
The arguements against hormone supplementing inevitably come back to the aging naturally - fine if you don't object to diseases triggered by menopause. However society treats naturally decaying teeth so ehy not hormone supplementation?
Read this book and others before having your decision made by NHS cost managers.

5.0 out of 5 stars High class whore and politician in Georgian England- the love story of Mr Fox and Mrs Armistrad, 13 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I adored this book - the writer cleverly writes using the pen name Elizabeth Charles - combining the happy couples names.Mrs Armistead is brought to life in bawdy, vibrant Georgian London . Charles Fox is one of her sponsors and together with the Foxites plot to make Lizzie the leading courtesan of her day.
The book takes us through Lizzie's affairs with men of importance - showing the glamorous but sordid life led by Cyprians during this era.
Charles Fox is brought to life and his sweet tolerant charm is a perfect foil for the kindly Mrs Armistead.
I hope this writer chooses other historical characters to write about - although we have quite a few books about Nell Gwynn I think this author could do her justice.
I felt as though I had been transported through history and greatly enjoyed reading of times where freedom and fun had not given way to modern po faced morality.
A wonderful love story where trust and loyalty are pitted against the morals of the day.

Sex, Meaning and the Menopause
Sex, Meaning and the Menopause
by Sue Brayne
Edition: Paperback
Price: 6.99

1.0 out of 5 stars Very biased and anti sexuality in menopause, 8 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I read this out of curiosity - although I wasn't expecting a hooray for HRT neither was I impressed to read the author stating that females who went from using the pill onto HRT to be soulless. This is a nasty inaccurate judgement from a writer who extols the use of black cohosh which can cause liver damage and death.
The book puts forth the theory that menopause is a spiritual journey and once you are in menopause it is natural and desirable for females to be reborn as nuns.
I noticed that women seemed to be getting the message that many enjoyable activities should be given up as they seek to find themselves !
Utter baloney I'm afraid.
Male interviewees seemed compliant with the philosophy and I wondered cynically if dissenters were not included in this book.
As for HRT not a single positive experience was described which didn't surprise me.It all sounded terribly earnest, very drab and grim -certainly not a self help book to suffer less - more inclined to encourage wallowing in decrepitude .
This may not be a good idea - one in two hospital beds us occupied by a female suffering from a disease caused by menopause and it costs the NHS a kings ransom.
Seeing old ladies shuffling around using Zimmer frames unable to look people in the eye provoked me to try walking with my head stooped - it was very disconcerting and frightening and not something most females would choose given the option but this author breezes through the health implications to focus on the souls or lack of them depending on the female users or abstainers of HRT .

5.0 out of 5 stars Richard III the enigmatic king - the first glimpse of a royal murder mystery, 10 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Richard III has fascinated me since I was a teenager. Here the book sheds light on this enigmatic charismatic king.the co authors put together the discovery of the lost monarch and his unworthy grave. I was unable to put down this book -it does an astonishing job of resurrecting King Richard.Obviously proof of innocence cannot be ascertained from locating his body but the false propaganda from More and Shakespeare is debunked.A wonderful effort with many contributions from others. I highly recommend it. If the reader wishes to enjoy a very possible theory of Richard and the princes I recommend The Goldsmith's wife by Jean Plaidy.

Bill Grimsey has written an eloquent account of the downfall of the high street. Apathy, chainstore domminance, government interests and online shopping are discussed in a brilliant analysis of why there are empty shops, pound stores and betting shops all along your high street.
The high street is finished and Britain is poorer as a result.

Lovers & Gamblers

Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Jackie Collins at her vintage best - an unforgetable leading man and a wonderful heroine, 22 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Lovers & Gamblers (Paperback)
The first Jackie Collins book I read in 1979 and I am still completely hooked by the characters. I just wish Jackie would revisit the story as she has done with the Santangelo series. Bad boy Al King meets his match in Dallas the beauty queen and former hooker. Sex, bombs, hijacking, power and money - Ms Collins at her finest without the politically correct overtones of her modern novels.
The couple progress through the saga with a number of sharply drawn unforgetable minor characters - including Linda Cosmo who plays the sex game using male rules.Melanie King calculating gold digger married to Al's penny pinching brother Paul and Al's door mat of a wife - Edna who finally learns to apply eye shadow.
There are the whores and junkies with sugar daddies - the decent but dull Cody Hills and Bobbie with her green talons and heroin habit.
Pick it up if you dare and go back to the swinging seventies where hedonism and fun ruled the day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jane Shore - The King's merriest whore, 21 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Royal Mistress (Paperback)
Edward IV described Jane Shore as the merriest whore at court. This book captures the essence of Jane's vivacious witty personality. Sensual and gifted with sex appeal Jane is forced to wed Will Shore by her father. A disastrous match because Will is a cold austere man. Jane's beauty catches the eye of Edward's closest friend Chancellor William Hastings and she is brought to the attention of licentious Edward IV - a king with a roving eye who takes Jane as his mistress.
This book places Jane's reign as mistress in chief rather later than other versions of this fascinating piece of history . The author catches the personality of Jane and also the ambience of 15th century London with it's colourful life and brutality where a man could be rrobbed of his ears for speaking slightingly of the sovereign.
Richard III , William Hastings and Elizabeth Woodville spring from the pages of the past.
Jane never forgets her past as the daughter of a mercer and is renowned for her charity and compassionate nature - using her body and wit Jane Shore climbs to the highest bed in the land only to fall from power when the king dies and Hastings is executed on a trumped charge of treason.
