4.0 out of 5 stars best blue grass banjo, 1 Oct 2002
This review is from: We Are the Boggs We Are (Audio CD)
This is a "must listen to" CD. When the singing starts you'll think you might want to turn it off, but it is emotionally evocative, musically addictive and basically so raw, that you just have to keep listening to it.
For the cognoscenti of the banjo and mandolin, this CD is what they have been waiting for all their lives. Lesser mortals however, will be transported to a Southern state porch on a humid evening, when nothing is worth a dime! The vocals give the CD a rebellious feel while the strings are just awesome. The Boggs are to Patsie Cline as the Sex Pistols were to Barry Manilow! But if you can keep your foot from tapping whilst listening, there is somthing wrong with your brain/muscle communications.

This is a "got to listen to" CD. When the singing begins you think you might want to turn it off, but the CD is SO evocative, SO rhythmically addictive, SO raw, that you just have to keep hearing the sounds.
For the cognoscenti of the banjo and mandolin this CD is what they've waited for all their lives. Lesser mortals will be taken to a Sourthern State porch, on a humid night, when the fireflies are flashing, and nothing is worth a dime. The vocals give the CD a Rabelesian and rebellious feel, whilst the strings are simply astounding. This band is to Patsy Cline as the Sex Pistols were to Barry Manilow. If you can keep you foot from tapping while indulging yourself in this CD there is something wrong with your brain/muscle communications!
