5.0 out of 5 stars Original classic series that sets the pace for the future and films, 16 Dec 2011
The original series is well acted, fun, with an unmatched camaraderie between Kirk Spock and McCoy which endear us to them forever. What is known as the Historic mission of Kirks, when he was the first to go out into the unknown expanse of space and meet and befriend or be forced to fight species after species. Highly entertaining to watch time and time again. Bringing new twists into the stories by introducing Vulcan mysteries to us.

I don't want to spoil it for anyone who has never seen Star Trek but will say the actors are great and went on to be in many films and series'. This sets the scene for the series which followed and referred to Kirks mission. In case your still unsure -I also love Sliders, Star wars, Battlestar Galactica, Andromeda, Firefly, Quantum Leap...and of course Star Trek Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager. But I didn't like Enterprise because it makes a mockery of the rest of Star Trek - no attention to continuity at all - They seemed to suddenly become the first to do everything that I was told many years ago was first done by Captain Kirk, Captain Pickard... and their Crew, totally undermining Captain Kirks historic mission if Captain Archer had already done it all before. If you watched Enterprise before this you'll keep saying no Enterprise was the first to do/ see / experience this not you - please remember this came out over 40 years ago so this is the Classic, the Original truths are here.

The Dr, Captain, Spock, Scotty and Uhuru, the core crew are wonderful together, I love the same extras being seen again. HAve a book with every charactor in all the Star Treks and was amazed to find Rand was only in about 6 episodes, seemed a lot more, just shows how lasting an impression these episodes have. And they did what they could with the lack of technology, very impressive really, and forward thinking, doors which open themselves - someone was behin them opening them hidden off camera - now we have automatic doors, communicators, unheard of we'd have even tinier mobile phones within 30 years. I think Star Trek whad done a lot to inspire inventions. I look forward to transproters when no more need for public transport!! - the technology in theory has been proven...and warp drive too, yes, this series was what started it all and a must in my eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent brilliantly conceived film idea. Action and humour., 16 Dec 2011
This review is from: Star Trek [DVD] (DVD)
Excellent film, wonderful idea not ruined by inconsistency but keeps to original concepts and historical events spoken of by Kirk and co in the original.

Lots of action and humour and as a trekky fan who loved every film and thought how can I love someot with a totally new cast - I do because the story was good, cast acted well, Spock was in it - we do love seeing original cast in these things, and no inconsistencies which would ridicule the later series. Wonderful film, highly enjoyable, now why didn't they treat Enterprise series like they did this film and make it make sence with what we know already?

Highly recommend this and look forward to the next.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ace cast underused, painfully out of sinc with rest of star trek, 16 Dec 2011
I wondered why Enterprise had such a bad low following compared to the other StarTreks - I have all the Original Series, Next Gen, DS9, Voyager and all the films - many twice or more because of their being reissued in box sets every time a new film comes out!! Plus many books on Star trek so I know many facts off by heart - but don't consider myself a crazy fan - just someone who loved them all, all unique in themselves with great stories and characters, loving all the story ideas, charactors and inteaction between charactors: Kirk Mccoy Spock and Scotty, Picard Number 1 Worf and Data, Odo Quark and Kira, Chief OBrien and the Doctor, Neelix Tuvok and the Doctor, The Doctor and 7 of 9, Tom and Harry,... so looked forward to this interaction in the Enterprise. Dont know if I found it. The fun interaction wasnt the same, the doctor was good, and the acting in itself good.

And you know a but is coming here- I watched all of Enterprise trying my hardest to like Enterprise but it has too many inconsistencies, ignoring what went on later, what was stated as fact in the Original series.

A few inconsistencies I couldn't ignore which really spoilt this:

In the Original series Kirk and McCoy are told they are the first to EVER witness a Vulcan wedding but here it happens many years before The Original series. that was so annoying!

In the Original series Spock was the first to tell humans about a mind meld and performed it as something we had never seen performed - but here there are many episodes devoted to it. that is so inconsistent its ridiculous.

In the Original series Spock goes through "Pan farr" (sorry know spelt wrong) which was put over as something humans knew nothing about - here humans find out all about it, and the doctor who isn't human also knows all about it - the Vulcans were secretive about it hundreds of years later but not here - daft!!

Those from the future said they had to clear up time paradoxes caused by Janeway more than anyone else but here we have a time war that Archer saves many species from!

Archer travels back in time_ the original series has Kirks crew being the first to ever go back in time with time warp. (I did love this episode and foudn it brilliant but all the firsts from the original series are disappearing, the original series is no longer a historic voyage, as it all happened first ehre after all. I cannot believe it was all forgotten with time.

The Klingons look as advanced as they did in Next Gen etc whereas in the Original series they looked human - we all accepted that something happened between Kirks time and Next Gen time to change how the Klingons looked - as Worf so brilliantly stated (so we didn't care) " We do not talk of it" but to now say they looked advanced before Kirks time and after Kirks time but human during his time is totally ridiculous and a serious mistake! However this is one thing i now think i can accept - ish, as trying to explain why the change happened.

I hear from reviews I have yet to see them travel to a parallel universe - this was unknown to exist until Kirks crew travelled to it, later used brilliantly a few times in DS9 episodes.

Did the writers of this series even watch the Original series which was meant to come AFTERWARDS but do the things above FIRST!

I can think of many more inconsistencies which just spoil the brilliant actors and storylines. Here I have ignored it all looks more technological than in the later series'. They should have based this after Voyager and not had the problems, the technology is not more basic than the original series at all - their transporters for instance work better than in the original or Next Generation.

All in all its a waste of a really good set of actors and storyline opportunity. and the fun interaction between sets of charactors just didnt happen, above I have listed only a few in the other Star Trek series. If the charactors had

5.0 out of 5 stars ACE SERIES LOVE EVERY MINUTE. Description NOT correct? this is NOT 60 minutes long?! sellers pls update, 4 Oct 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
if this is the complete series surely it should have at leaset 6 to 9 hours of episodes on it not 60 minutes- the equivalent of one episode. could someone please help as i dont want to buy this to find it is only one or two episodes on it which i have saved on sky. i love what i have seen of this series so far so am interested in buying it.

Ok i never got an answer to the above but bought it anyway. This is amazing, brilliant fun zany ideas, fun new ideas, wonderful entertainment. Am waiting series 3 and 4 to be "complete" as this is. Mine contained every episode of series 1.

Town called Eureka:

remains fresh with cool ideas, strange effects, various people getting into trouble whilst others get them out of it.

People usually get the credit for the help they give so there isnt this, saving the day but being treated like an idiot kind of thing that i have seen in some programs.

the series moves on, never stagnating, so retains my interest on a few levels.

There are some programs (obviously i wont name them) where the character's powers are still secret after 3 series, where he is always saving peoples lives, never gets the credit and is still treated as the idiot 3 series on, so no progression of the story seems to have been made, which is frustrating.

None of this with a Town called Eureka, the story line progresses naturally as life does. Still zany fun and serious things happen to make you laugh and cry. Interesting time travel and alsorts of amazing events due to science.

Highly entertaining, highly recommend to those who love sci fi - and i love where it overlaps with Warehouse 13. Not giving anything away as this is advertised.

If you love Warehouse 13 and Sci fi - you should love this, I hope.

3.0 out of 5 stars interesting but bit corny and daft, 28 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Revelations: Season 1 [DVD] (DVD)
I thought this would be an interesting story because i loved the Left Behind series of books which were based on the same period of time - but this is very daft and corny in places and had me saying - why dont you tell him why, why - well i cant spoil it if you buy it but lots of things arent done which prolong it.

It has lots of choral (far too much) and dramatic (quite nice actually) background music so if you dont like choirs youl hate a lot of it.

It tries to be very religious but i think it overdoes it and concentrates too much on searching for a child - I thought it would be about the signs and wonders of the end of the world, kind of disaster movie lets save the world - but it really is about a nuns obsessive search for a baby. I love supernatural, Christian and interesting stories but i have to say to be bored by this, im not sure if il bother to watch the end - it can be background while i study!

really glad i bought this - it is fast moving and keeps your attention - i didnt even stop the film to make a cup of tea!!! it isnt at all soppy but has a nice moral heartful message amongst the fast moving "get the baddy" bit. Lots of typical Stallone action Ace cast who act well, I love futuristic stories but many are so boring or end badly or not cleverly indepth enough - this is excellent. I am sure i will watch it over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic tale everyone should know of helen kellers story, 17 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
growing up i saw the film and read the book and heard of helen kellers amazing story - amazingly optimistic and perservering. of course her teacher is the true hero endurance wise in teaching her but she went on to do so many inspiring things, that this book should be essential reading in schools for everyone to read.

A wonderfully inspirational story beautifully written.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent interesting and fun original futuristic film, 17 July 2011

This review is from: Logan's Run [DVD] [1976] (DVD)
I hate reviews which spoil the story so i will say nothing at all about the actual story except it is good.

I loved this when i saw it many years ago and when i later bought it. To give you an idea of whether youl love this as i do- i love sci fi such as star trek, sliders, torchwood and so many films i wont bore you with a list. But this is very original compared to other films like mad max set in the future. I think this is a lot better.

This has an original futuristic story with decent special effects even tho they were made years ago - got an award at the time i believe. but is a must if you love the actors because they act very well and make the story what it is to me - seeable over and over. no corny bits where you think - or shout at the telly - "dont do that, its obvious theres trouble etc.."

It stars Jenny Agutter (railway children original film etc) Michael York (lotsa films), Farrah Fawcett-Majors (original charlies angel etc) and Peter Ustinov is ace.

3.0 out of 5 stars good for RSI, 17 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this on advice from a hand therapist at hospital re RSI. I would recommend you see a hand therapist at a local hospital via your doctor for advice as only he/she can advise the right mouse.

Now iv done the disclaimer!! i was advised to use this because it keeps the arm straight and sideways - however you need to make sure you have the space to use it properly - at the right height for it to work - it is hard to get that right and my arm hurts if it isnt perfectly positioned. correctly spaced it is excellent.

it stopped working for a while and i contacted the seller but got no reply - reason given a lower mark. if i have problems i dont know what help i will get so will hav to go through Amazon themselves re the 6 years british law says you have for an item to do its job - the sale of goods act doesnt cover a year only as guarantees do - the law states items should last longer than that.
