4.0 out of 5 stars Great film, 2 Oct 2013
This review is from: Dragon [DVD] (DVD)
True this isn't an all out martial arts action flick. What it is, is a very good story which throws in some fantastic fighting elements. The bulk of the film surrounds a detective who is determined to uncover donnie yens true identity and dark past. The villains in this film are truly ruthless as a bad guy should be and the fight sequences are fantastic. I'd recommend this to any eastern cinema/martial arts lover. The only Redfin it doesn't get 5 stars is because yet again, the story and hence the movies run time, has been cut for western audiences, (because apparently we have the attention span if a fish. Casing point, the other review!!). If you want the full uncut version you'll have to track down "Wu Xia". This is the HK or eastern release and us fully uncut at around 20 mins longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, 5 Sep 2013
As with the first movie it will not please all fans of the original anime. I am a massive fan if the original but am NOT in the group of disappointed berserkians. I loved the first film and absolutely love this one too. It does leave out some of the meat the series offered us simply due to its run time. Rememeber this is a more faithful to the manga recap of the golden age hopefully leading on to a complete adaption of the entire manga!!! (Hurry up I can't wait!!!). But what the movie goes offer is a faithful and brutal retelling if the middle half of the golden age. The epic guts vs 100 men battle in this is bloody beautifully done and makes the hairs in your neck stand up. Pick this amazing adaption up today if your fan. This is a true timeless masterpiece of a story.

5.0 out of 5 stars The devil wears a familiar face, 7 Aug 2013
This review is from: Devil's Rock [DVD] (DVD)
Just finished the Devils Rock and was pleasantly surprised. The DVD was a gift and not one i would have normally picked up myself,(given the spate of straight to DVD tripe of late), until i had seen it first. What I was met with was a well acted trip into demon rituals that was as gory as it was interesting. The entire film centres around three lead actors and each one does a standup job. No cheese here! The story lends from Hitlers quest to find artefacts both holy and un-holy and in this case, the nazis experiments into the occult and witch craft. Final verdict. Slow burner? Yes a little but excellent with it and hopefully destined for a slice of cult status. Two thumbs up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great great film., 21 July 2013
Look. Yes it's uwe boll. Yes he's fished out some less than Oscar worthy movies,(of which I'm not ashamed to say I still like coz I'm a boll fan), but in the case of this movie he has done a Stella job. The story is factual and has been paved very well. My main reason fir such praise stands firmly in the joe Lewis max schmelling bouts. If you don't believe me watch the choreographed fights,(from real amateur boxer/actors) in this great film then pop off to YouTube and watch the real fights. You'll see the brilliant attention to detail and authentic realism even down to the kidney punch inflicted on schmelling which rang out in their second meeting. This is truly a great film and no it isn't going to get any bag tad any time soon which is a shame. But it is a film boxing and history types or those who just enjoy a good old life journey. Please don't dismiss just because its boll. And for those wanting a little more. Check out the history if the two on the Internet after the film where you'll see that these two warriors remained friends post WW2 and when louis died a relatively poor nightclub bouncer, max schmelling paid for his military funeral.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long live AVALANCHE., 17 July 2013
Simply a must for final fantasy VII fans like myself. I fell in love with the game back in 97 and now this amazing CGI film. It's basically a sequel to the original game and follows in the wake of Sephiroths attempt to destroy the life on the planet by summoning a giant meteor. As fans know Aries, (or areith for purists), appeared at the end sling with the life stream and halted the devestation. The fallout however has left a disease, the geostigma, infecting and killing the planets children. Enter cloud and dell those nostalgic faces, (along with plenty of new), to battle once more. Truly a fantastic movie. "It's been a long time. Cloud"

5.0 out of 5 stars Show me your tongue!, 15 July 2013
This review is from: Outrage [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Takeshi kitano goes it again with a fantastic yakuza crime thriller. The plot centres around two families one of which is happy to continue with their own illegal activities while abiding to a fragile truce. The other, the Sanno family who are he'll bent on crushing the opposition snd expanding their territories. This film is full if lieing, deceits and of course some bloody nasty violence. Takeshi is awesome as always and the supporting cast are brilliant and believable. A must for any gangster/crime thriller fan, violence gore hound and KITANO fans. Like me. Any one who disagrees is lieing and must have at least three tongues. Well go on show me. Put out your tongue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, 6 Jun 2013
Just finished watching this brilliant anime. Personally I loved it and was gutted when it finished. Great plot. Great character development. Epic battles (but thankfully not every given minute). And the music really lends itself to the feel of the story. If your a fan of fantasy action anime then this is it. Really hard to compare but if I had to I'd put it in the category of a serious sekirei minus the bouncing boobies and claymore. Still for me I wanted more. Utterly hooked from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloody good, 8 May 2013
This review is from: Sick Boy [DVD] (DVD)
Must confess with the spate of straight to shelf and bargain bin horror releases of late, I went into this with an open mind. And no high expectations. I was however pleasantly surprised and treated to a real little gem of a Horror. The acting from all of the cast is very good, (with the exception of the officer 'stereotype' although even he can be forgiven). The story builds well and does a good job of keeping your attention with good pacing. This could easily have become a really drawn out affair but thanks to little scares and plot reveals throughout the film really keeps you glued. All in all really good indie number and one for the collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A clever and bloody return., 11 Feb 2013
Attack of the clones it may be. But what a bloody good battle it turns out to be. DOR is a sequel to regeneration that certainly lives up to its predecessor. There one or tep question marks over how some of our much loved unisols are resurrected from the grave but that us soon forgotten from the impact of the opening scene when everyone's favourite unisol is shown in act of brutal "home invasion" violence. From here our protagonist (also a victim of the home invasion) awakes with a purpose towards revenge. I won't give the rest of the story away. But the film deals with with the inner struggle of our "hero" between truth and fiction and throws more than a couple of plot twists our way. The violence is off the scale and as with regeneration feels raw and gritty with that blunt realism hitting home with every muzzle flash and machete hack. If you are lucky enough to get hold of the nc-17 cut then I'd highly recommend it as you are treated to additional violence and brutality the R rated would not allow. If your a fan of all out action films splashing plenty of claret about the place then this is for you. And come on. It's lungdren and van damme!! UPDATE. UK version is UNCUT

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, 27 Dec 2012
I remember seeing Internet posts done years ago hinting at a possible berserk revival and the google frenzy that followed. Then? Well... Silence. Bang! Out of nowhere about 10 years later on the cover of the latest berserk manga we are promised a brand new adaption. I first hoped for a new series or continuation from the original brilliant anime but instead the new adaption will be a series if movies. Admittedly at first I was a bit deflated as inevitably with movies stuff gets left out. But let me lay doubt to rest the movie does the source material justice and beyond. The visuals are brilliant and the battle scenes are epic and sprawling. More so the violence is far greater than the original anime. At the time violence on amine was censored or toned down for tv release and berserk suffered this fate when you compare the anime to the manga. Thankfully time has moved on and attitudes have changed and this is reflected in the brutality of this movie. I have a real soft spot for the original anime and would recommend this to any berserk fan. Even if you haven't seen the original I suggest you see this and treat yourself to mythological take on medieval Europe with swords magic demons and the like. This is a timeless story of beginnings, relationships, friendships and betrayals........ But you'll have to wait till a few films in for that. I won't spoil it. Buy today and add this timeless classic to your collection.
