5.0 out of 5 stars True Blue, 14 May 2013
This review is from: True Blue [DVD] (DVD)
The great thing about this film is that it isnt a holyywood epic and whilst their may be a bit of license it, IMHO, does capture the tension and the feelings of the time. This was a low budget film that contained people who have gone on to be great actors such as Dominic West, Tom Hollander et al. I left Oxford the year before, but knew some of the characters and Dan was and is a rowing legend, so the book carries his view, albeit I don't think its that biased. Having captained a boat club, all oarsmen can be prima donnas, the training drives you to that - so tensions are always there. It also shows -certainly in those days, that wanting to win really could be the difference between success and failure. It is a good movie, well acted. Oh and for older oarsmen the sight of those beautiful sutton wooden blades....

1.0 out of 5 stars TomTom 1000 European, 23 Oct. 2010
Picked up a 1000 Euro and initially very impressed, yes there are things that are not accessible yet at My TomTom, but it is a new operating system and New web interface. The things missing are peripheral to me and are promised shortly. Personally the ability for me to add a new poi or share a map are not top of the list.

As a stand alone unit out of the box it is excellent. The mount is genius and so fast. The screen excellent, reroutes are pretty much instant. The live services were up in a few minutes and the traffic is so good. I drove 120 miles last week in a day through congested areas. The traffic was ridiculously accurate, literally seeing traffic around the next corner and sure enough it was there. Menus are easy and much quicker than earlier tomtoms. Phonebook downloads in a fraction of the time and the bluetooth phone works perfectly with my iphone.

I can't seem to make it recognise spoken postcodes, but that aside a great piece of kit.
Unfortunately I have also had to return the product. Out of the box it was really impressive, non-functioning TomTom Home bits aside. Sadly, more exposure has highlighted the flakiness of the current release. TomTom need to get a software update out PDQ. My unit crashed on a pretty regular basis, either freezing a page when half way through calculating a route, or shutting down in the middle of a phone call. The iphone bluetooth connection caused echo feedback to the caller. The spoken directions still spoke even when turned off in the menu. Finally, the IQ routing is very dubious, ignoring much faster routes and resolutely sticking to major routes with traffic incidents. Having set a South Coast to Worcester Route, first off it took me via Swindon as most Navs would. When I asked for an alternative it took me via basingstoke and reading and completely ignored the A34, adding over an hour to the journey.

This is potentially a good unit, but too many failings at this point to be useable.
