5.0 out of 5 stars Factual and entertainng - a must read, 5 Jun. 2009
This review is from: Captain Scott (Paperback)
I have a personnel interest in the story of Scott having led the first military expedition to the South Pole since Scott's journey of 1912 and this was a must read for my fellow team members. Ran has masterfully combined his own first-hand experiences with solid historical facts from Scott's day. This is one of the very few books that review the journey of Scott from a perspective of understanding the environment in which decisions were made and actions taken. It provides a unique insight into Scott's journey that has, unfortunately, been picked apart by other authors with no experience on which to base their viewpoints. 5.0 out of 5 stars Real insights for real results, 5 Jun. 2009
As a fellow polar adventurer I have used this book to design my own fitness training regimes. The content works. This book is packed of advice, guidance and tips on nutrion, fitness training, getting the right mindset and of course some great insights in Ran's remarkable journeys. This book shares so many secrets from a man who has achieved some incredible journeys and is still doing so now with his recent summit of Mount Everest. Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars The inside read on cracking the South Pole, 5 Jun. 2009
Having completed a South Pole I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The book is full of so much content, not just from Tom's own experiences during the journey but the wider challenges of embarking on a journey to the South Pole. It is written a nothing barred style and really gets across to the reader the harsh realities of walking to the South Pole. For those considering a walk to the South Pole! or generally intersetd in the amazing feats of human endurance this book will keep you glued to your chair. Having travelled extensively in the Arctic on my own adventures this book took me back to the icy world from the comfort of my armchair. This is one of those books that really captures the beauty, and harsh reality of life as a polar adventurer. A must read for polar adventurers and those interested in high adventure.
