5.0 out of 5 stars Never have I been as pleased with a digital camera as with this fascinating Samsung ..., 24 July 2014

Never have I been as pleased with a digital camera as with this fascinating Samsung Galaxy Camera. Top of my list is the big screen which is so wonderfully wide it occupies the entire back of the camera. Its size has even pushed any physical buttons and knobs off into the software and therefore onto the screen itself! And what a screen it is. I will just pick out one terrific feature from it, the tricky sounding 'Smart Pro Mode'. Whoever invented this is a genius. It nearly presses the button for you and yes, 'we really do the rest' as Mr. Kodak once said.

You will have complete strangers looking over your shoulder, in no time, at that big screen, to see the photos you have just taken. As an aside, the screen ensures anybody using the camera will not be inclined to cut people off at the knees by having too much sky in the photo, the 'too much headroom' syndrome. Your compositions will be Rembrandt like.

As to picture quality, Everything so far has been razor sharp from postcard size to A4 enlangements. This is despite pixel-counting reviewers who also must pick nits. Intriguingly there may be a reason for this. I decided to install a battery and micro SD memory card only, for the moment. No SIM card because I don't yet need to avail of all the apps and sharing love-in hippy stuff that goes with that. I mean to say, it is a camera is it not? I have been told that since there is less demand from the Android, not to mention the Jellybean (what is this? Snoopy meets Dr. Seuss via ET?) that all the power goes to the picture making elements and even the anti-vibration device. It makes sense.

Buy one soon, if you can, at Amazon's great price, before Samsung either delete or improve it!

ROWALLAN BLACK LEATHER UNDERARM PORTFOLIO ORGANISER
ROWALLAN BLACK LEATHER UNDERARM PORTFOLIO ORGANISER

5.0 out of 5 stars Highest quality folio I have seen., 24 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am glad there are buyer reviews on Amazon because I have never seen such high quality in an underarm folio case. The soft leather oozes quality and the dividers inside give four compartments yet the case is barely an inch thick. It will easily take A4 leaflets and even larger magazines and supplements which are 12 inches wide or so. The case itself is actually 14 inches wide inside.

It is a pleasure to just walk into a meeting or some-such with the sensuous feel of the leather cupped in your hand already boosting your confidence! Did I comment about the very reasonable price? 44 is very fair for such an outstanding item in view of the outrageous price asked for less well designed rivals, so well done Rowallan on all fronts.

In Search of the Third Man

5.0 out of 5 stars The complex intrigues in making a brilliant film., 18 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This story is about how the 'Best Film of the 20th Century' was made, as voted by filmmakers, critics and industry people. Truth to tell. the behind the scenes intrigues between the American and British moguls would make an excellent thriller also. Talk of interference, delays, battles for supremacy and sheer bloody-mindedness, I am amazed that the film The Third Man was ever made. Both sides wanted a finger in the pie and it is to the eternal credit and the genius of its brilliant Director, Carol Reed, that he got his own way in the end. Yes, he out-intrigued and out subterfuged the money-men, helped by the lighting of Robert Krasker and the zither music of Anton Karas. These were the three men who made the film great, the first, second and the Third Man of movie-making! Thank you Charles Dravin for telling us the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best design A3 drawing board available., 15 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is simply the best design of portable A3 Drawing Board on the market today. The build qualty is excellent with ingenious paper clamps that click into position with a satisfying sound. The main horizontal ruler has push-button locks at both ends and can be used for horizontal and vertical drawing as it glides along the accurate grooves.

I am a scale-model aircraft designer and use this A3 Rotring Rapid board, 'drawing-box' all the time. It is well worth getting the very useful optional Junior Draughting Square and maybe a 180 degree protractor to round it all off!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best baby toy ever!, 4 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Rarely have I been so pleased with any product bought on line, but this Ambi Toys Lock-a-Block is the best ever. How could they have known how to design and build such a perfect toy for a baby of 1 year and over?

From the solid, chunky design to the bold colours. From the wonderful key action in the door - all babies just love keys - to the rounded shaped blocks. Even the holes in the box are properly lined in soft plastic.

It is my Grand-daughter's favourite toy of all and she knows the words 'key' and 'door' and 'blocks' at 1 year and a bit. Well done Ambi and Amazon and 'My Wendy House' for quick delivery and fair postage.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mary Poppins is scarier!, 15 May 2009
This review is from: Eden Lake [DVD] (DVD)
This over-hyped heap of rubbish avoids any real feel of a horror movie. I found Mary Poppins and her dangerous umbrella to be scarier. Listen to me Mr.James Watkins, Director, don't keep showing us close ups of the heroine's narrowed eyes, bent on vengence, when all she does is jab an innocent kid. Don't show us pointless shots of potential weapons, like the sharp metal she stumbled on, and then back off showing her using them.

For goodness sake we really thought she would use the wonderful shaving razor to wreak havok but only nicks a bad guy on the arm! She manages to rob a van and then just does a u-turn in it to avoid mowing down the bad (misunderstood) boys. Was she not sufficiently annoyed that she saw her boy friend showing his dislike of barbed wire? What a softee, it wasn't even rusty for goodness sake.

You can feel the heavy hand of a studio Politically Correct Officer wagging a finger at showing anything that might harm the good-at-heart children on their bikes. Shame on them spilling a few drops of petrol I know, but it is still cheaper then bottled water.

So finally Mr.Watkins, watch 'Straw Dogs' and learn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plaudits to two great Americans, 8 Feb 2009
This review is from: The Dead [DVD] (DVD)
This great film is, above all, a credit to two great Americans; John Huston the Director and his daughter Anjelica. To the Director goes kudos for his faithful adherence to James Joyce's short story 'The Dead', often cited as the greatest short story of all time. To his daughter Anjelica must go a special award for being the first and only American actress to accurately capture the mercurial Irish accent. 'The Dead' surely ranks amongst the 5 best movies of all time.

Bruce McCall's Zany Afternoons
Bruce McCall's Zany Afternoons
by Bruce McCall
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, imaginative book., 8 Dec 2008
This is an amzing book of brilliant cartoon pictures with accompanying storyline by Bruce McCaul. I remember the first time I read it and the real sense of wonder I felt on turning each page. Were the articles true? Are the 'small ads' genuine, like the Liquid Carpet and packs of Perpetual Lunch Meat? Were those amazing cars he illustates really once manufactured in the USA?

The breath of his imagination is a delight and this is just one of a dozen equally great books by Bruce McCaul. Was there an Autogyro Joust, a Zeppelin Shoot, an R.M.S. 'Tyrannic' which dwarfed the 'Titanic' by facilitating pony races through steerage? Maybe........

While this particular book is out of print it is considered one of his best and will soon be re-printed. In the meantime enter his name in Amazon.co.uk and see what comes up second-hand.

Nikon F4/F4S/F4E/F3: With SB25/26 Flash and New Lenses (Magic Lantern Guides)

4.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced but good reference book., 31 Oct 2007
This 'Magic Lantern Guide' is quite a good reference book but not a patch on the 'My Way with the Nokon' type of book. It is vastly overpriced for what it is and my 'Nikon F4 & F3' by Hove Foto Books has 195 pages and is a quarter the price.
