3.0 out of 5 stars Easy read, but it'll be over quick, 10 Oct. 2014

This review is from: Extinction Game (Kindle Edition)
Less complex, shorter than I expected from GG.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, not quite as dark, 7 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good, not quite as dark, nor as humorous as his earlier work, but still a gripping story with plenty of scope.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak, lacks content, not the hard SF or space opera I wanted., 26 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not the hard SF/space opera that I was hoping for.

Reminds me more of the 2nd world war sea battle novels of my Dads that I used to read. Wouldn't surprise me if it was written by an ex naval officer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it, even if it were free it's not worth it., 26 Aug. 2014

Is this written for children? Or just by a lazy author?

It's a 'coming of age' story for the primary character. But the author is in such a rush for him to be the invincible hero that most of the story is crammed into the first two weeks of his attending the 'academy'.
During in which time he gains enough sword skill and 'unexpected' power to defeat students 2 or more years his senior and the blades master instructor.
The writing is lazy, the motivation poor, but the structure of the story is what really lets it down.
After the first two weeks, we segue into a two year gap, where he apparently learns very little and nothing of note happens, including the girl who was making eyes at him in the first two weeks, still being at the same stage 2 years later...

Frankly it wasn't worth the £2.50 it cost on the kindle. If you expect a story to have any depth of decent plot, then stay well clear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Stars, 22 Aug. 2014

Intriguing world that is being built here, so much to explore, and characters that are complicated and believable.

Simplistic and with characters that sometimes seem to lack any deeper motivation than to get through the day. And when they do have motivation attributed to them, it's often a little odd.

3.0 out of 5 stars Readable - but not gripping, 22 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Typical of the genre, it's a bit over heavy at times on 'technical' detail which is adding nothing to the story, which itself is a little bit lacking in direction.
Overall, not all that much happens in this book, it's a bit disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Second Book, 22 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Continues pretty much where the 1st book left off, stays strong throughout and leaves plenty of plot to carry forward to the 3rd book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still on form, 13 Jun. 2014

If you've read the previous books then you know exactly what to expect from this one.

If you haven't, then you should probably start with book 1, rather than jumping in so far into the series.

My only complaint would be that the stories could do with being expanded a little more, be a little longer, a little more complicated, as it is I finish each book in 2 to 3 days.
