5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch!, 7 Feb 2013

Almost read the whole thing, and all I have to say is, look no longer, if you've been on the lookout for a decent book on JavaScript, this is certainly it. I'd even go as far and say I'll probably re-read it all over again just for the sake of it. I wouldn't particularly consider it a reference, I'd say David Flanagan's definitive guide might suit the description better. It shows, the author clearly grasps the subject and knows how to deliver it in a comprehensible and pleasant way. You'll read this book on the commute and back and surely won't be caught dozing off as Nicholas' writing-style is no short of captivating. Clear and concise explanations, meaty content, all you've been waiting for in a JavaScript book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never leave without it, a must, 24 Nov 2012

This is by far the most interesting book on the subject of clojure I've had the honor of reading to this date. Not a beginner's book, but a definite must. I own the hard-copy and carry around the PDF with me at all times. Think "The Well-Grounded Java developer" and "C# in depth" with a clojure flavour. The writing style is excellent and will keep you reading for more.

If you've only been introduced to the language, get "Clojure Programming" from O'Reilly and then make sure to come back and pick up this gem at a later date. This is a classic and will last through the years to come as one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, get it now, you won't find better, 16 Sep 2012

This review is from: Clojure Programming (Paperback)
I'm only 50% through this book so far, and I have to say this is the most comprehensive book on clojure I've found to date. The authors clearly grok the subject. If you're intentions are to dabble with the language for a week and never touch it again (very unlikely - you'll be hooked if you're not already) then this may not be the right book for you. On the other hand, if becoming a clojure ninja is the aim, I wouldn't pick any other volumes than this very one. This book will suit both beginners and already versed clojure developers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!!, 9 Feb 2012

This review is from: Actors in Scala (Paperback)
I normally don't rate books unless they've proven to be outstanding, which is a shame, I know. Well this is one of these books. The authors have written a concise, straight to the point and easy to follow book on how to use Scala and the Akka actors. In each scenarios, real life concurrency examples are demonstrated through easy to understand code snippets. Don't judge this book by it's size, with it's some 170 pages only, you'll get plenty of subject coverage to make you an expert in the subject. Well maybe not an expert, but enough to understand the premises of programming in a concurrent and parallel world. Treat yourself and read this on your next long flight, you won't be disappointed.
