4.0 out of 5 stars a heady overlay, 4 May 2002
This book takes a ick run through c++ for the benefit of somebody who has already programmed. If you haven't expect to learn VERY slowly. It is subtle yet powerful. My main criticism is that it tells you nothing about how to compile c++ - which is a real bugger when you don't have any instructions on how your gc compiler works.
Oh and its probably too succint for a full overlay - very good as a backup - and for (the price) its worth it

3.0 out of 5 stars What it says on the tin, 29 Jan 2002
This review is from: Perl For Dummies (Paperback)
This is actually a reasonable textbook. But out the horrible alliteration, the naff jokes and titles, and you actually have a book that does teach you the basics of perl very quickly. The CGI elements are rather poor and if you really want a book that will teach you substantive perl go somewhere else. If you just want to hack about with a few simple scripts though, this book is fine. I quite liked it!

4.0 out of 5 stars brief appraisal of a solid text, 15 Jan 2002
This review is from: Fortran 95 (Paperback)
Martin Counihan is an author who is sadly overlooked. If you buy this book you will find it to be a solid and reliable text which fully covers all the important aspects of fortran 95 and fortran 90. The style is neither patronising nor superficial. An excellent text that I would happily recommend to all.
