5.0 out of 5 stars The Queen of Pop is back living and breathing her music, 8 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Applause (MP3 Download)
Great comeback - mature video and performance. When you study the video you realize the depth of thought that comes with each Gaga song. If you had to measure a performance on intensity Gaga wins hands down. I believe her biggest issue at the moment is that the music sheep (those who buy the most popular and cool) still have to decide if she is cool again. Anyway, really looking forward to the album !

This review is from: My Sister Jodie (Hardcover)
My Sister Jodie is a fantastic book. It is a book that once you pick up you can't put down. I love it! I would recommend it to people who like sudden surprises in books; or just love reading and Jacqueline Wilson. It has an unusual ending that is sudden. I'd probably recommend it for readers aged 10 and up. Defnitley buy this book. It's really interesting!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Platformer, 22 Jan 2004
This review is from: Sly Racoon (PS2) (Video Game)
How do you know when you are enjoying a platform game ? For me if I get to the end of a level and I want to carry on with that level and not only pleased to have reached the goal. Sly Rac is a classic platformer with excellence all round.
I really enjoy the interplay with your team at certain points in the game to help you along. The animation is great and very seldom do you find yourself having to be pixel perfect with your positioning inorder to make a jump. The game cleverly ensures that once you have worked out the path or strategy, you have fluid gameplay and dont find yourself being frustrated. I enjoy redoing levels which is not something I can say for Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank etc.
The music and environments are great and you can roam freely around (avoiding all the baddies of course). The spotlights are very original and work in two modes. Once one catches you it turns red and then you get fried if it catches you again. The great thing is you can cancel them out by smashing the hooter which controls them and get maximum satisfaction.
Overall this is a superb game and I am so pleased I went against sales figures as they could not be further wrong. All ages for this one. Go get it and you wont be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Continue the magical journey of the film, 1 Dec 2003
This review is from: Finding Nemo (PS2) (Video Game)
Although Disney has a proud record of making films, in all honesty their software and games are not made to the same quality and largely sold due to the characters involved. Finding Nemo provides a refreshing change and faithfully creates the film elements while having a lot of fun.
All ages will enjoy this one. The simple approach works well and excellent mixing of events. One minute you are dodging flames and the next you are putting together a puzzle to open a door. All completed levels are accessible and can be replayed continuously to improve your record or just for fun.
The film was fantastic and shows Disney still has some magic left. It was important that the graphic sequences in the game related well to the flow of the movie which they do famously. As you can expect when Pixar (Toy Story, Bugs Life etc) are involved. the animation is great and a feast for the eyes.
If you enjoyed the movie you will love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable Sim, 30 Oct 2003
I have been aware of the game for some time having taken part in the US Tecmo forum. I had created a view of the game i.e. buy, race, breed and have a wager on the nag of your choice with all depending on the depth and playability of the jockeyship. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the soft touches in this game which make it so playable.
From the beginning you get a very cartoonish feel which may put you off initially. If you stick to it, this grows on you and provides a good distraction especially when you get run out of it in the final furlong. The Academy (Learning to play) is also run in this fashion but is well done and gives a firm platform to start from.
You purchase your first horses and you are ready to race. The learning curve is similar to G1 Jockey but I feel this will be much harder to master. The thrill and accelation in G1 is fantastic but somehow this more clinical approach Tecmo have taken leaves you with a more satisfying after taste. Perhaps I have forgotten those blissful early days of starting G1 Jockey. One feature I think really works well is the jockey assessment after each race as opposed to a trainer staring at you. Each part of the race (start, feel (handling), position and home stretch) is assessed giving you a good idea of where you need to improve.
The betting option is useful distraction but I wouldn't say to much more about it. Points earned from riding in races determines what horses you can buy and not the dollars earned from betting. The breeding option is a great addition. When you retire your horses you can put them up for stud duty and once a year breed your next champion.
Watching your horse canter to the start in a G1 Race and the array of jockey celebrations are excellent additions. I am still early in this game but the promise and longevity are mouth watering. I am off to the stud farm to watch my next champion being born. Good Racing !!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good effort but could be much better, 20 Jun 2003
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
The concept behind this desk is great. Learning letter sounds and basic word (3 letters) formation works well and allows the child to cement the basics. Thats where the praise stops. The modes are pretty boring and would be best limited to a beginner (3 - 5/6). My daughter is five and the only feature that interests her is the word creation which is limited to three letter words which is such a shame as the concept is brilliant. The board tells you to write (electro pen on a small screen that erases)a word and then press the letters on the board and it congratulates you when you have succeeded. The interest wains and normally nothing more than fifteen minutes before my daughter gets bored. It is a pity but perhaps it was aimed at a specific market.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a new version definitely worth getting, 20 Jun 2003
This review is from: G1 Jockey 3 (Video Game)
I have been looking for a good horse racing simulation for literally a decade. Along came G1 Jockey and I thought I had struck gold that was until G1 Jockey 3 came along. Make no mistake G1 Jockey is a great deal of fun but for those pondering the move, refinement is all over this product - from head to toe. The new features are fantastic -
1. Controlling of the speed using bit control.
2. Stipendiary stewards objections (Medium and Hard modes)
3. Falling off in hard mode
4. New trial mode where you can setup and try any horse in the database against any other amount of horses.
5. Save the game in the middle of a race meeting - really useful. Your about to ride Hawk Swing (Hawk Wing for those who follow) in a G1 event and you can relax knowing you can restart.
6. Steeple Chase is now part of the game and makes an excellent addition.
The graphics are better and the replay mode is great to watch. There is no change to the sound environment which is disappointing but with all the others additions Koei has done a great job.
For those who dont follow horse racing --> Imagine racing a different car each time that you have to position correctly and each with a different engine. You are coming down the homestretch and you dont know if you are in a Ferrari or a Mini. Get on board Loch of Gibraltar (Rock of Gibraltar) and you will know what a Ferrari is like.
Those who enjoyed G1 Jockey - this is a no brainer. Those who havn't - this is a quality title right up there thats set to take many days and nights away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent simulation with great play life, 2 Mar 2003
I always wanted to be a jockey for a day and I would imagine this is as close as it gets. In previous reviews, reviewers have mentioned the basis of the game being the story mode which is well supported by two play and steeplechase mode. In story mode, you have the goal of becoming champion jockey. However it is a journey which is well orchestrated with story building subtleties like your stable trainer telling you have one more win to get 50 victories or congratulating you on a Grade 1 victory. As you improve more trainer's become available and of course better horses.
The impressive part of the gameplay is how you have to position yourself according to the type of horse you are riding. If you miss the break (slow at the start) on a front runner you are doomed and be too close to the front on the back runner and the same occurs. Timing your run is critical and the thrill of victory matches anything I have played before. The key to this game is to persevere as in the beginning you are sick and tired of picking off your goggles as you cross the line with the field already in the unsaddling enclosure. You start to improve and then it is oh why not one more. The three difficulties ensure long play life.
There are some items which would have been great in the game such as a betting sheet and more camera angles during the race but I can tell you it runs smoothly and you can never quite get enough. Great purchase for all but especially those overweight jockeys (> 58 kgs which includes 95% of us).

5.0 out of 5 stars Gaming excellence.........you can only love this game, 29 Jan 2002
I am a late bloomer in the Thief market having only seen a demo earlier in the year. I finally got myself a copy and life as I knew it was a distant memory. Hours and hours down the road I cannot get enough. The game throws conventional gaming on its head and asks you to use your head. An extremely pleasant change from the normal first person violence you normally have to put up with. The storyline has you involved from the start with a very engaging plot. You are a expert thief in a tough, uncomprimising environment which requires all your skills to conquer. You need a good sound environment as sound is your food and drink. Every noise is important and I sometimes get so involved in plot with the surreal music that I am on the edge of my seat in the midnight hours. Midnight hours...yes and get used to it as this is like a bestseller....you cannot put it down. The movement and graphics are great especially if you have a P3 or better with 128mb ram plus a good 3D card (required) and sound card. Levels are well planned and allow you to improve as you go along. Tip : if you have not played Thief 1 :The Dark Project then I would start with that as it teaches you well and makes your transition to Thief 2 pretty seamless. All in all a superb piece of software and will leave nobody disappointed. I have no real qualms with the game except loading times which are quite long but in no way detract from the game. Thief 3 is apparently on the way.....I dont know how they will better it but I cannot wait. Buy it now ... you will get hours and hours of top flight gaming.
