What a disapointment. Snarky have departed from a succesful formula of live recordings which are dynamic and exciting. This studio album is formulaic and bland. I'm a big Snarky fan and pre ordered this album but it just doesn't work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, Deeply Important, A Modern Historical and Political Classic., 14 May 2016

Finkelstein is one of those rare brilliant academics for whom every detail of what he writes has be closely researched and true, even when it does not fit with what is considered "correct" thinking on an issue. He takes no prisoners and writes with outstanding courage on an issue that challenges the corruption of some of the most powerful elites. The child of two Holocaust surviving parents he exposes the double dealing of those who cynically exploit the memory of this horrendous genocide for personal gain and to defend the human rights abuses of Israel. It is ironic that he has been persecuted for exposing the truth by some of the elites that claim to promote the memory of the Holocaust.

4.0 out of 5 stars Extreme Virtuosity, great writing but some predictability in the solos., 14 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Morrison's spectacular chops are well displayed in this double CD. It is a mixture of originals, which are very contemporary and funky in style with some excellent writing, and "funky" standards which are well played but, for me, the mixture does not work well. Everything seems to be chosen to showcase the virtuosity of the band, which it successfully does. The band is eyewateringly tight on material which is almost impossible to play. My reservation is that the solos are fast but predictable showing little originality. The cheesey cover images belie the modernity of the music so don't be put off by that. Please to have it in my collection but for occassional playing rather than an album that is going to wear out my kit.

This review is from: Democracy: A Life (Hardcover)
The depth of knowledge of Paul Cartledge as an epert in ancient Greek history is well demonstrated in this book. It started as a set of lecture notes and reads like one. Like another of the reviewers I found his writing style difficult in that he wanders off into detail with unering frequency which makes it difficult to retain the thread of the main argument at times. Some of his sentences are a paragraph long. If you already have some knowledge of ancient Greece then this will be an easier read as some knowledge is assumed in the early chapters. Democracy is defined differently according to the political perspective of the person using the term but I found the authers insights into what democracy has been, how and why it has been supported or opposed and the dire straight of our current democracy thought provoking.

Never gets old. One of my favourite albums. Lyrical with fabulous soloing. Highly recommended. Don't understand why Lourau is not much much bigger.

If you love the unique music of Robert then this is the definitive biography. O'Dair really gets to the the vulnerability of this musical genius. Written with the full cooperation of Robert Wyatt and Alfie Benge and very knowledgeably and nicely written. Highly recommended.

Been using this blender daily for smoothies for two weeks now. Like how it can be taken apart to clean with no awkward corners where food could get trapped. Very smart looking on the kitchen top. Glass goblet is robust for crushing ice for which there is a dedicated setting. Yet to see if the motor stands up to soup making.

4.0 out of 5 stars I would still recommend "We Like It Here" as their best album though, 12 Jun. 2015

Snarky Puppy are, at last, getting the recognition they deserve and this album is symptomatic of that. Michael League has done a fabulous job of using the orchestra to enhance his compositions. SP albums are already arranged for a big band so this sound is enormous with swathes of sweeping sound. I would go so far as to say overblown at times with some of the lines lost in the mix. As ever the compositions are strong and the strings may extend SP's sound to a wider audience. I would still recommend "We Like It Here" as their best album though. Puppy are at the pinnacle of the fusion genre of jazz at the moment and make some great music.

Not been a big fan of organ jazz in the past but heard this on Contemporary Jazz Radio and had to buy it. Very catchy with loads of brass and great arrangements. Highly recommended.
