James McGill has got to be the new Jack Reacher, just don't get Tom Cruise to play him in the film adaptation!

Rapidly paced novella. Very well written and worthy of a great read. Very weird chief villain and the obligatory giant octopi. Enjoyed it!

Good story line every bit as entertaining as its predecessor. Old fashioned sci fi ideal holiday reading but take plenty more material as you'll wiz through this story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Flashback to 1977, 5 Aug 2014

I first read this book as a student at Leeds University in 1977. I still love it just as much in 2014! Moorcock still rules! Unputdownable! (Obviously I didn't study English lit!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Seen the stage production, now read the book!, 5 Aug 2014

I'm not over fond of horses but the book moved me even more than the London stage production! A grand testament to the triumph of human or horse spirit, and the stupid futility of war! I'm very proud of my grandfather who fought on the Somme and at vimy ridge and the troubles in Palestine and in the Crimea show that our damned politicians have learned nothing!!! Just need the t shirt!

I read Moorcock's books while at university in the early 1970's. Since reading novels on my Amazon kindle, I have revisited some of my old reads and hey!!! Moorcock is still VERY readable, surely the Formorii are the creepiest of all foes!

Very well thought out, and well written, and enough tech to keep any geek happy. Bought sequel before I'd even finished

Well imagined piece of work with great possibilities for future sequels. Very human main character's growing up in a (to us) truly alien environment sustained by bio-luminescence. More please Chris!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring on the sequel!, 23 May 2013

Very exciting read! Well written, and to use a popular cliche, unputdownable . I'm looking forward to the sequel. Lots of cool monsters and a personable heroine. Bring it on!!

A great story, hilarious at times but with an important message. Don't forget every old timer has a story to tell!
