very good quality. I've had it now for several months, in use daily, and still looks like new.

Both exterior and interior shorts are beautifully filmed, and the journey unfolds in a majestic pace which does justice to the splendour of the scenaries. The commentary is earnest and detailed.

I suspect for once, Miyazaki san did not give in to commercial demands and made a film closest to his own heart. The result was something so beautiful, tears kept streaming down my eyes for no reason.

I grew up watching and rewatching his films. I still cannot quite get used to the idea there will no more, that this is his last film.

5.0 out of 5 stars DOES FEATURE ENGLISH SOUNDTRACK AND VOICEOVER,, 20 Oct 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
dvd does feature a choice of either english voiceover and english track, or German track. In case you panic like me that the german voice over completely overpowers all the spoken english of the interviewees, and forget to select from the menu. There is however, NO english subtitles. I thought i would post this because another reviewer said its all in German.

5.0 out of 5 stars not to be missed, 18 Sep 2014
Having exhausted all the Nordic Noir, a friend recommended these films of Fred Vargas 'rompol' ( crime stories) , by josee Dayan who directed the Depardieu films of Les Miserable and the count of Montecristo, and Catherine deneuve in Dangerous Liasion. These adaptations are cinematic. Urban locations are rendered atmospheric. The costumes and interiors, like the characters are revealing and at the same time poetically quirky to reflect Vargas' dialogues. In the episode set in the Pyrenees, there are scene after panoramic scene of the mountain region in all its glory, so rich in details you feel you can smell the native soil in the characters. If the Nordic Noir offers gritty realism with heart, these are creations that transports and let fly the imagination. To find out more about the storylines, you can google reviews or synopsis of Fred Vargas novels. In this DVD set, they put Neptune's thunder as the first disc, but watch first, ' the chalk circle man' because that was Vargas' first novel that introduced Inspector Adamsberg.

5.0 out of 5 stars a feel good movie in a book, 10 Sep 2014

A hearty well written, highly intelligent autobiographical account that reads like chick lit, and manages to be both uplifting, evocative, very informative and rich with wonderful characters.

Rachmaninov: Complete Works for Cello and Piano
Rachmaninov: Complete Works for Cello and Piano
Price: £6.00

3.0 out of 5 stars dull, 4 Sep 2014
This CD is about as sparkling as a dust covered archive of rachmaninoff cello music. The performance is so not compelling may as well have been delivered in manuscript form

I find myself going on youtube to listen to the same pieces performed by other cellists and finally went and bought the superior performances of these pieces on CD. ( for example, check out Rostropovich) So other than the fact that this cd is the complete of collection of cello composition by R, there isn't much to recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars mostly noise, 17 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
sadly the author is rather uninformed about MUSIC, so he packed the book with lots of what he probably thinks is factual research and is dismissive about some of the more crucial information because he doesn't realise their importance. There is no clear direction, either the author hasn't been able to step back far enough to see a clear picture, or doesn't have what it takes to understand the myriad musical phenomena. What he gives you is a lot of 'noise'. In the hands of a better informed and less shallow writer, a cohesive composition that features themes and variations and developments would have emerged, and I am still waiting for such a book.

Scriabin - The Composer As Pianist
Scriabin - The Composer As Pianist
Price: £16.61

3.0 out of 5 stars misleading cover, 3 Jun 2014
The three stars are for half the CD, ie the tracks played by Scriabin and Lhevinne. The rest are just fillers, incongruous pianists with no musical merits whatsoever. Frankly I was aghast someone actually put such a cd together.

The cover is deliberately misleading and makes no mention that half the tracks are played by people whose Cds I wouldn't look at let alone buy.

The Scriabin by Scriabin CD I would recommend is - 'Scriabin and the Scriabinians: Preludes, Etudes, Mazurkas' which is available on amazon. On this one instead of 9 scriabin tracks, you only get 6, but the rest of the Cds, each track a jewel, is music to die for!

2.0 out of 5 stars intricate beautiful music ruined by a leaden interpretation, 31 May 2014
This review is from: Medtner - Piano Sonatas (Audio CD)
its unfortunate about the performer because the selection of Medtner sonatas is a perfect selection to this wonderful composer's piano works.
There are a few other Medtner piano sonata Cds, but I am still waiting for THE one that ticks all the boxes.
