1.0 out of 5 stars Hopelessly short range, 27 Jun. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This ring can only be detected if it is actually in contact with the reader's antenna and even then, only if a specific section of the ring (which is not indicated on the outside) is towards the reader. Even a few millimetres of separation (if your reader has a thick case for example) and it is invisible. Totally hopeless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loud.... I said LOUD, 28 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Simple to use and VERY LOUD!

This unit has both a securing strap and an activation pull - hard to confuse the two so inadvertent activation shouldn't happen. Good device.

3.0 out of 5 stars Case OK but heatsinks useless, 31 Mar. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this kit for a Pi 3. The case fits well - it is nicely engineered - but the heat sinks have no appreciable cooling effect at all. With the top OFF the case the Pi3 reaches around 96 Deg C at 5% CPU activity and over 105 Deg C with sustained 60% activity. With the top of the case ON the temperature rises rapidly towards even higher levels and I had to power the Pi down to prevent damage to the processor (though 96 deg C is too high). This is for a vanilla Pi3 with no overclocking.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great design, flawed performance, 12 Feb. 2016
A great disappointment. The design is clever, but the blades are just not sharp enough to cut julienne or batons from hard veg like carrots or celeriac. Despite a lot of fiddling (and there isn't much to adjust) we just couldn't get the vertical blades to cut right through the slices to give individual strip so we had to pull the slices apart. I own many Oxo Good Grips products but, like the Moulin, I'm afraid this one is a fail and it's going back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be without it!, 11 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I really couldn't be without a stock of Sugru. I regularly find more uses for it around the home and workshop. While it is great for repairing and improving things, it is a great material for building new things too - especially when combined with powerful neodymium magnets.

2.0 out of 5 stars The beautiful flying saucer was then easy to configure with primary ..., 3 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I get to work with a lot of IT hardware but it's a while since I've come across a piece of kit as frustratingly flawed as the UniFi AP.

There are very limited instructions with the unit - not unusual. The controller software must be downloaded from Ubiquiti before the unit can be configured to do anything so you must have a working network connection. Then you have to make sure that a compatible version of Java is installed on your system (v7.0 worked for me) and enabled - which for security purposes it is often not. Then comes the browser. Chrome can't be used as it no longer supports (festeringly insecure) Java so I used Internet Explorer.

I connected the AP up and after some flashing it settled down to emit a steady orange glow. I tried different network cables (none are supplied with the unit), reset the AP and tried to access it by connecting it to a different network.

THEN came the hours of searching for a solution to why the unit wasn't being found by the controller software. Eventually I gave up and contacted Ubiquiti support by email. More frustration - I got a very swift and helpful reply - very rare for a tech company. I worked my way through the solution given (interrogate the router, find out the assigned IP address of the AP, load PuTTY, use this to connect to the AP in an SSH session, issue commands to link the IP address of the unit to the controller) and I was in.

The beautiful flying saucer was then easy to configure with primary and Guest zones. The signal was strong and connection quick. But. an hour or so later, connections to the primary zone were seeing the network but had lost the connection to the internet. Another hour of scouring support forums and I managed to get things working again - for now at least.

The point of my review is that the UniFi AP is lovely and technical support was great, but unless it works straight out of the box for you (and the support forums suggest that for many people it doesn't) the configuration process is a nightmare and may easily defeat the non-technical so I really can't recommend it unless you are prepared to spend a lot of time fiddling and fettling.

I APPEND UBIQUITI SUPPORT'S SOLUTION BELOW - it may help someone!

A steady orange refers AP is Awaiting for Adoption.
If you are unable to adopt, then please perform the steps below:
You can SSH into your device using PuTTY for Windows.

For Windows:
1) Download PuTTY ([...], use it under your own risk!)
2) Enter Hostname IP address (by default is 192.168.1.20), leave port as default and make sure you've selected protocol SSH
3) Press "Enter" button
4) Accept the certificate, then enter your username and password (by default credentials are ubnt in both cases) and press Enter key
5) If it works properly you will see XM5.x and a $ symbol, there you can enter the commands you want to use.

Please try setting the inform URL by following these steps:
SSH into the AP and issue ‘syswrapper.sh restore-default’ to get back to factory settings.
SSH into the AP and type: mca-cli
Next type: set-inform [...]

This will set the inform address for the UniFi AP to the IP address of the UniFi controller. You can now enter the controller and click to adopt the UniFi AP.

These fit well but the necks are just a little narrow and the stitching there is not the strongest so you have to be careful when pulling on or off. On the other hand they're cheap and of reasonably thick material.
