This is a brilliant album. It's challenging and accessible at the same time, has great ideas and is very listenable. The compositions are all varied but sit together really well and there are really great collaborators like Robin Trower and Bernie Marsden involved. I've not really followed Jack Bruce over the years since Cream, and bought this album on a whim having heard none of it - I'm really glad I did. This puts the new Joe Bonamassa album (that I received on the same day) massively in the shade.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not convinced..., 2 July 2011

I quite liked Blackbird as an album and bought this on the strength of that. The playing, production etc are good (maybe overdone?) but the songs themselves are quite forgettable. Myles Kennedy's vocals can start to grate after a while (they all seem weirdly double-or triple-tracked which somewhat takes the soul out of them) and I get the feeling that Mark Tremonti (great guitarist though he is) sounds like he is sometimes just playing stuff that is technically difficult for the sake of it, rather that it fitting in musically.
If you haven't listened to Alter Bridge before, get Blackbird rather than this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music from the heart, 2 July 2011
This review is from: Revelator (Audio CD)
Simply one of the best albums of any genre at any time. Quality songwriting, impeccable playing and lovely singing from Susan Tedeschi. The Derek Trucks Band are superb (check out their other albums - especially Songlines) but the inclusion of Susan Tedeschi really takes it to another level.
What really comes through is that this music is made out of the love for it and that makes it a pleasure to listen to and you actually feel good that they have taken the time and effort to make this amazing music.
Highly recommended whatever music you are normally into - this is from the heart and soul of those involved and it really shines through.
