Arrived promptly which was essential as needed it for Sport Relief day. Even though it was supposed to fit all sizes I have a big head and it is a little snug. Good for the price.

The Peregrine (New York Review Books Classics)
The Peregrine (New York Review Books Classics)
by J.A. Baker
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars A book about some birds, 30 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I ordered this because Robert Macfarlane, an author I much admire, was clearly in awe of it. I too was overwhelmed by it. How J A Baker manages this I'm not quite sure. He effectively becomes one of the peregrines he is tracking. It is nature writing, but it feels and reads more elegiacally and metaphysically. Extraordinary!

If you enjoy competitive sport and are even semi-serious about cycling then read this book. It takes you inside the mind of a rider in one race and keeps you captivated. Extraordinary writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should read this, 30 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Everyone should read this book especially all legislators. I've read the book three times and each time absorb new ideas which promote different thoughts and feelings. Whether you're an atheist, secularist or humanist it will speak to you and chime with those feelings of frustration that we experience when confronted with people of 'faith'.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the price a good looking watch, 30 May 2013

I like the fact that is quite a large face with good quality strap. I'd lost my previous one at the top of a hill so needed a replacement that wasn't too expensive but did't look cheap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calling all non-believers, 28 Oct. 2010
What a wonderful collection of essays and writings from ancient to modern day. A mind expanding read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is contemplating the meaning of our existence and defy anyone not to be influenced by its contents.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you don't believe in God, for God's sake say so!, 28 Oct. 2010
Plenty of thought-provoking and profound ideas contained in this book. I found the biopics slightly irritating but otherwise a wonderful collection of the great and not so great.

5.0 out of 5 stars I used to enjoy digging holes, 28 Oct. 2010

Whole family read this book, which in itself is unusual. Once in a while a book is published which is truly new and refreshing - this is one of them. A book for children that should be read by adults too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why believe in a God?, 18 Sept. 2010
This review is from: The God Delusion (Hardcover)
A thought provoking and challenging book. The Darwinian version of evolution is emphasised and dominates the books thinking. The arguments and evidence presented make it a compelling read. I was already an atheist, but this book has reinforced my 'belief'. It now seems inconceivable that any reasonably intelligent person should want to or need to believe in any God. Perhaps the most revealing chapter was on morality and how religion has almost no part to play in the formation of 'true' morality.
